So I know that this post has been made a few times, but none of them seem to really help and I cannot ask questions due to the threads being locked.
Moving on, I need help figuring out how to transform a players velocity so that it is relevant to the direction of the opposite portal, for example if a player falls downwards into a portal then they will be shot out of another portal which is on a wall. To me it seems like a difficult thing to do but I know some of you are insane at circuits. If anybody knows how to do this please let me know! (and please put the circuit names as I am clueless without them 😭)

wouldn't that just send the player in the direction they were already going when they entered portal A, I need to the player to change the direction of their velocity in reference to the direction of portal B

u would set their position to infront the portal first, than rotate the velocity to that portal

its been awhile so i would have to do this myself, but if it dont work, its cus u have to make velocity relative to portal that was entered instead the world first, otherwise if its behaving how u expect than it should be fine

idk what Cryptic was saying about reflection (i imagine u saw his msgs in the older posts. Which i only acknowledge bc he was a math nerd) but id think just what i said, rotating/world transform should be fine

You would change the direction relative to the portal

then set velocity with the rotation being the velocity

then get magnitude and thats the multiplier

i just pulled up my old portal gun and did some organization & modernization/optimization since so old

Red get chips = Player
Green get chips = Entering portal
Blue get chips = Exiting portal

Local P is supposed be Local Position, but forgor to update it to be clearer as this orginally was just in a board

the bottom 3 chips are rotating the localized velocity to the exiting portal & then reflecting it. U dont gotta add the reflection if u want, idk if its more accurate, Cryptic just made a big deal bout it back then so i included it

okay so this works, however whenever the player enters a portal they are just sent to 0,0,0

it should be local position transformed by exiting portal, but its been put into rotation instead (thus rotation not set either)

it works amazing for objects, however sometimes the player exits with only vertical velocity or they get stuck, another common issue is the player frequently gets sent to the right

i also used seats at 1 point, mostly to rotate the player but ye

the way that i got around the player spam telleporting was to give them a tag when they enter th portal which would be removed after half a second, if they entered a trigger volume with the tag then they would not teleport back to the other portal

What I did was that I had a bool so that when they enter either portal its true and it doesn’t let them teleport unless its false, the way it goes false is when they fully leave the portals trigger volume
