#Why does Rec Room not feel the same anymore? (repost from MY reddit post)

I know, overused topic, everyone and their mom is talking about it, but I don't understand. When I was younger, I used to play Rec Room 24/7, and I would never get bored. Nowadays, I find it hard to play 30-40 minutes, but there's zero different aspects about rec room. Maybe the cosmetics, but back then, I played for the games, not the cosmetics. Maybe just because I was 12ish at the time, and I had more time, but i still have more then enough time to play. I like what rec room is doing, but FBA? Maybe focus on optimization more, I haven't been able to play on my PSVR (my original platform) for a solid 4-5 months. I still play rec room, but its only when friends get on, and they don't get on anymore, because rr's boring. (flashback moment) I remember when I would hop on Rec Room, invite 3-4 of my friends, find a game, then play it for 3 hours, eat, come back, find another game, play for 2 hours, repeat until like 8-9 hours, whenever I would have to get off. Maybe it was because I was new to VR? Idk, I just want some answers, as for any other game I have played, this has never happenend.

TLDR: Rec Room is boring, but idk why, wasnt boring back then, so tell me in replys

I was thinking maybe because of Covid or something, as everyone was locked indoors and couldn't do anything (I started Febuary 2020)

i think one of the problems is how rude people are, there always was rude people but now it feels like everyones so mean. i cant sit quietly in the reccenter without someone saying something to me. i used to be able to party up with a whole bunch of people in my favorite hangout and go play a game, but now everyone is so antisocial. its a social game, why does no one want to have a conversation? i get rude comments when i LOOK at someone and for the items i wear. its so weird to me.

you would think that level 50 players would be nicer because they've played for a long time and have seen all the hate thats in this game, but its almost the opposite. so many level 50's are rude too

I believe that every game suffers through this kinda staleness moment as it grows older.

We also as older players have seen rec room go from a small, almost indie based kinda game to a cooperate shell of its former self.
(Some examples of this)
-Collaboration items now costing an arm and a leg to buy vs. Us receiving them free like we used to.
-Most creator programs are completely gone such as Invention Tower, contests, science department.
-Old Dev team no longer working for the game or are just less hands on.

Just a shame to see a game I spent hours on just feel so... Empty now?

I can’t agree fully although I do feel as if the player base of Recroom has become more of an unsocial place than it used to be. Like pickle said the players have become more toxic overtime which is true but I also agree with that it is bland, including vrchat and other games of the sort i just feel as if Recroom is becoming more inconsistent with there updates like full body most of the recent community never even wanted full body but got it anyway just like the watch update. Recroom will never die out but it will drop drastically in number that’s my conclusion.

and yeah, there is ALOT of boring cashgrabs so thats a problem too

the reason it felt different was because everything was newer, and you had more fun experiences (that you hadn't already had before), when this happens its probably good to take a step back from the game for a while. i continue to play rec room because of the rush i get from hearing that ding sound in paintball
and also golden trophy and other quests
but thats really the only reason i play anymore

i think if recroom had more fun things to look forward to, like contests, events, and other things, it would be more fresh and exciting. even simple things like a new map for mitm or paintball it would be something to took forward to. making a whole new quest might take time, but something new other than outfit items make it more exciting.

one of my favorite games is human fall flat, and every once and a while they add a new map, and it makes me wanna come back and play through it again. we need something like that, something new thats gives us a reason to keep returning other than talking with friends

one of my rooms is ALL kids, it wasnt the intention when we made it but it attracts alot of kiddos. there was these 2 kids that were in the same room as eachother irl playing on their tablets or something, it was so cute

everyone complains about the kids, and i agree that some are really annoying and rude, but not all of them

not enough that they shouldnt be able to play at all. sometimes they hold their controllers in the wrong hands, i feel bad when they're on a jr account so i cant tell them :(
