ok i was finally able to look at this (steam charts) and now that it has been a couple days from release i would like to show a new perspective. when looking at the 7d model it does seem like the player count dropped after fba, although i think that issue relies at forgetting the weekend players. if we compared the release date to other weeks prior (thursdays) we see something that shows the opposite.
2/8: 1,994
2/15: 2,085
2/22: 2,072
2/29: 2,363 (fba beta launch)
by looking at the players every thursday we see a different story. the average growth we see between 2/8 and 2/22 had an overall 3.9% increase. the increase we see between 2/22 and 2/29 was a whopping 8.8%! which is a 4.9% difference compared to the standard growth during february.
so no, the player amount is not plummeting. it, in fact, increased during the fba beta release. i know we can’t put a finger on that data and say “oh yeah, fba is the reason the player count increased” because there are a lot of variables that play into that sort of thing. it is just something to keep in mind when making bold claims like that.

and no, im not cherry picking data to fit my narrative. i feel that looking at every thursday beforehand shows an accurate baseline for the release on the thursday after.

i kind of squashed all the percents together so here is a better, more concise version.

• the average growth of players before the fba beta release was +3.9%
• the change in players after the fba beta release was +8.8%

that change is a +4.9% increase
