Is Voice Moderation getting too strict?

As a African American I use the n word occasionally my other friends have been getting voice banned and kicked. This could be a flaw correct me if i'm wrong. I get that your trying to stop the discrimination and "slurs" but the nword isn't a slur its a way to greet others if you have black friends you would know. If a Rec Room mod can help please do!

the simplest explanation is like auto captioning for youtube, it tries its best to hear what the person is saying and puts in into captions, but it doesn't do anything else

also imagine subtitles for sounds for deaf people, or people who have trouble hearing

like you try saying "ayo whatup dude" and the person gets subtitles saying what you're saying on their screen

You're thinking ToxMod, and sadly, ToxMod is a program/machine, which can't understand human context.

So, it thinks you're breaking the rules, and if you were in the Rec Center or any RRO that has ToxMod enabled (voice moderation enabled), then yeah.

I don't think it's that big of a deal, and even if it is to you just use oculus party chat or discord or some other solution for chatting. there isnt really a reason to say that word even if it isn't hard r, just dont say it in a game where you will get banned for saying it

They should disable voice moderation in private rooms

It is pretty difficult for us to make voice moderation better on this aspect. On one hand, we recognize that it can be used as a greeting but on the other hand, other variations of the word can be discriminatory. The voice moderation system isn't perfect. No system like it will be perfect. Sometimes people with bad microphones can get flagged for using the word in a discriminatory way even though they didn't. If this happens, all they can do is appeal and if they didn't use the word in a discriminatory way, we approve the ban appeal. The pros of blocking this word outweigh the cons. Our ban appeals are manually reviewed so if it was false, you won't be banned for long.

We don't ban for the n word with the a but sometimes the voice moderation mishears you. We can't disable it entirely or else we can't catch users saying n word with er.

Yep, and our mods manually check each ban appeal and listen to the audio of the session, if voice moderation made a mistake, the ban gets lifted.

We are constantly training it to make it less strict and more fair.

Is the entire session saved as an audio or rather just a segment of audio from the session to simply show the use of the word/words, and if the latter, around how long would the clip be and are the mods able to alter the length of the clip? I'd take it that some clips would need more context then others (being a longer clip) and could be the difference of the player being banned.

i got voice restricted twice in 3 days, it’s getting ridiculous now and i didn’t even get a reason why, I get restricted for a day then I got a couple hours with my voice again then the next day I got restricted again for another day
