NO!

#

@upbeat halo help, someone asking now for coding instead of circuits

thin zodiac
#

lua coding is a good idea on paper until you realise that it would ruin the thing that made rec room creation unique

#

rec room has its own coding language already, lua would just be unnecessary as cool as it’d be.

#

they’d have to make a separate desktop app that you make rooms in for that to work, similar to roblox studio

#

Bad idea in many ways

inner summit
#

But way less accessible

young moon
thin zodiac
#

it'd confuse everything tbh

#

Circuits is good enough

young moon
young moon
thin zodiac
#

it'd be an unnecessary addition

#

circuits is made in unity

young moon
#

Well I don’t think it should be rolled out immediately

young moon
thin zodiac
#

circuits is literally simplified unity programming, LUA isn't needed.

#

also Unity doesn't even support LUA that well, it'd break things.

young moon
thin zodiac
#

we don't need scripting in rec room we already have circuits

young moon
#

That’s entirely possible

young moon
thin zodiac
#

they don't need to add features that barely anyone will use since you can do it with 10x more efficiently with circuits

young moon
#

True

#

I think it would still be cool to have LUA as but in a CV2 form

thin zodiac
#

Lua coding would be an unnecessary addition that would make room creation more difficult than it already is + the bugs that it'd bring

#

lua can't communicate with unity that well

young moon
#

No im not saying make CV2 out of LUA

#

Sorry let rephrase that

#

Im not implying we should add LUA

#

I think we should make a CV2 based LUA

@upbeat halo @thin zodiac @west roost @young moon

When people suggest they change the coding in recroom to be highly advanced, everybody thinks the idea is insane and they all hate it.

When recroom announces a feature saying they will change the modelling in recroom to be highly advanced, everybody loves it.

How come?

#

Replacing the maker pen with blender is the equivalent to replacing circuits with lua.

upbeat halo

#

and also lua is simpler, more powerful, and faster than recroom circuits (only if you know it)

You can say the exact same for modelling

It's a Lenovo Yoga

and plus I spent literal years perfecting my modeling skills, and just as I'm getting the hang of it, it's all gonna be completely pitiful once recroom studio releases

upbeat halo
#

So the same thing wouldn't happen with lua releasing?

cosmic sluice

#

but you're completely fine with the models

#

because you're job isn't modelling so you don't have to worry about it

you have to let go of maker pen someday

any new player that joins recroom after recroom studio releases will look at my models and be like "these are garbage"

#

when I spent weeks of hard work on them

#

rec room has the best in game creation tools, why would you want to replace them with something so ordinary and boring?

cosmic sluice
#

meanwhile all those PC users can make something better in the click of a button

upbeat halo
#

I know, I'm not feeling very good about the old rooms part. either, so I can't really argue there

upbeat halo
junior osprey
#

it is

upbeat halo
#

lots of people will keep on using maker pen

cosmic sluice
#

also you can just download free models online

adding lua coding just raises the barrier to entry, there would be even less people wanting to learn how to use the maker pen
