While I think the art you produce is amazing, I think it can be unfair in an art contest seeing as rec room art is so unique due to it being in VR. It’s fine to sell that art etc. though and you should still take pride in it

I do know drawing in vr is much harder bc i have tried and sometimes do it, but according to that theory wont it be cheating if a vr player go against a screen player at building? Or if players in any other platform goes against players on xbox or ps4 at art? If thats the case then the players on platforms that have the merit of a particular activity will be considered a cheater. Idk- its kinda sad being called a cheater just bc ur on a different platform and it happens to have some merits (in the case of an ipad) only in that part.

I don’t see the problem with taking references/ redrawing images you like in game

It still requires a lot of skill to draw them and make them look good

If the rule was you have to show people all your references too then I’d be sending like 10 different pictures per drawing

I mean, if i took the same drawing and copied it into a different art program without tracing, and claimed it was original or made entirely by me( Or without posting the reference) thats an issue.

Parody art is one thing, stealing ideas is something else.

If its for improvement or study, idrc about it, but it looks like he did claim it was fully his, and has done it twice apparently from these two examples

it’s also a video game, it’s just like if a builder makes something from a reference, the artist doesn’t get anything from that drawing except some friendly reactions and maybe in game objects

If “inspired by” meant that he or she was using a specific style or theme, then that’s totally fine

He is essentially copying the art color for color and advertising it as his own

For me if i use a reference specifically i just reveal it in the invention description like “reference can be found on pinterest”

If im unsure of the original artist which happens most of the times

Cant say its wrong to not mention the reference bc yes this is a video game and bc no tracing was included, but writing that a reference is used will surely prevent convos like this

I got in quite a troublesome situation once bc copying art without tracing is sth that i can do well and i once forgot to mention a reference, so ye using reference isnt something thats bad, its actually a good way to improve ur art. I just recommend mentioning references cuz it might get a bit troublesome later and no one wants that
