Asalamu Alaikum everyone here, I used to stream a lot before just as a hobby and I want to start again as a side thing. I've been wanting to do this idea for a charity stream but not 100% sure on the rulings.

All money donated during the stream would be donated to charity. I play Street Fighter and was going to play against someone else in a first to 10. Each loss from either of us means we will donate x amount (for example £5, so if the score is 10-7 he would donate £50 and I donate £35). I will try ask my Imam about this too In'sha'Allah. If this isn't allowed, I'll try something else.

With the whole concept of "playing for money", isn't it bit of an iffy topic? I'm not out right gambling but doesn't this fall into a sort of gambling? Winning/losing = money and stuff

The concept of playing chance games with the hope of an outcome isn't the same as partaking in a competition with a winners pot based on a sliding scale of performance. One is literally gambling with fate/chance that has little to do with performance other than the overarching strategy of betting in a statistically meaningful manner. The other is performative labor for charity. A contest of skill.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Whoever swears saying in his oath. 'By Al-lāt and al-‘Uzzá,' should say, 'None has the right to be worshipped but God; and whoever says to his friend, 'Come, let me gamble with you,' should give something in charity."

— Sahih Bukhari, Book 78 (Oaths and Vows), hadith 645

You're literally competing with skill and you're giving to charity.

Jazāk Allāhu Khayran, my question got removed off reddit for being too specific or some other reason but thank you. If anyone else is reading this post, I'd still appreciate multiple inputs, thanks

I agree that this does not seem problematic... after all, no one is gaining anything monetary in this deal, and if both of your intentions are sound then you're not losing anything either since Allah (SWT) promises to increase the wealth of those who give in charity with sincerity.

I would say your challenge is a little ironic because the one who donates more would be the winner in Islam, but this fighting game idea has the loser paying more OMEGALUL . Maybe rig the challenge ahead of time- you guys both decide to pay a set amount in private, then play the stream, and at the end have the "winner" of the games match the losers donation like previously discussed. I feel like that would be a great course of action. Otherwise, it feels like giving in charity is a punishment, which doesnt really sit right with me
