#manners around turning down food
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
I remember hearing that the Prophet (S.A.W.) used to eat food and if he didn’t like it he would make a face which suggested that. But i don’t think it’s wrong to turn down a food u may not like
It'd be fine if i just didn't like it, i also haven't eaten it in 10 years 😔
Rip
If the food uses meet that’s not certified halal u can use that excuse
It is permissible to refuse food if you do not believe you will like it. In general you shouldn't do this with too many foods if you can help it otherwise you fall into a different kind of problem, but there are stories of the Prophet (S) refusing certain foods, such as Lizard.
Khalid bin Al-Walid narrated that he went with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) to the house of Maimuna, who was his and Ibn `Abbas' aunt. He found with her a roasted mastigure [lizard found in that area] which her sister Hufaida bint Al-Harith had brought from Najd. Maimuna presented the mastigure before Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) who rarely started eating any (unfamiliar) food before it was described and named for him.
(But that time) Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) stretched his hand towards the (meat of the) mastigure whereupon a lady from among those who were present, said, "You should inform Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) of what you have presented to him. O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! It is the meat of a mastigure."
(On learning that) Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) withdrew his hand from the meat of the mastigure. Khalid bin Al-Walid said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Is this unlawful to eat?" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) replied, "No, but it is not found in the land of my people, so I do not like it. [other translations say he felt like he would not like it]" Khalid said, "Then I pulled the mastigure (meat) towards me and ate it while Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was looking at me.

It is not good adab to refuse halal food if you hold some strange belief that it is haram, however (not talking about zabiha, just in general). For instance, if you are vegetarian because you believe meat is haram even though Allah (SWT) has made it halal, and you refuse a host's halal food because of this, you are in dangerous territory. But if you are vegetarian for example because it suits your stomach/budget/something like that better, then go for it.
Vegetarian because I dislike the taste, and have difficulty digesting things. No clue how something i didn't eat in years would affect my stomach 😔
it is haram to be vegetarian/vegan only if you believe that is the moral high ground basically your morality is above Allah's (SWT)
I believe vegetables are good for you, so can meat be. I just prefer to not have the latter, if I can
Jazakallah Khairan for addressing it!
