A Kex Port/Remaster of all the Rush racing games that merges both Arcade version content and Console version content into one package (if possible) with various changes to better suit modern PC and consoles like updated controls, widescreen, e.t.c

Would include... Rush: The Rock - Alcatraz Edition, Rush 2: Extreme Racing USA, and Rush: 2049

Rush is a series of racing video games developed by American-based company Atari Games and published by Atari Games and Midway Games for home consoles. The series debuted worldwide in 1996. The games consist mainly of racing with various cars on various tracks while players perform stunts in races.

These games are stuck on both old platforms and long retired arcade machines. There's an old PC port for Rush Alcatraz Edition that doesn't work without a specific old graphics card, and absolutely no ports of it on any modern systems currently. It would be a dream for these games to be brought back as they're easily the best arcade racing games ever created (at least to me :3)

Wishlist for this port/remaster should it happen:

  • All music from every version of each game with the ability to toggle which version's OST is playing
  • Higher res textures for cars and/or the race tracks
  • Anti-aliasing, Ambient Occlusion, other graphical goodies to enhance the look along with the option to not have them for the retro-look fans
  • improved sense of speed
  • Bug fixes and the option to turn them off if wanted
  • Custom colors for all cars
  • All tracks from every version of each game
  • reimplement any potential cut content if there is any
  • CPU/Ai Balancing
  • Wheel and Pedal support
  • Improved physics
  • Rush 2049 Exclusive - Include the cars from Rush 1 and 2
  • Online multiplayer and leaderboards

Considering Atari and Nightdive have worked together in the past, I wonder what it'd take to get these games...

#

Can't speak for the midway home versions though; that could be the problematic part of this becoming a reality.

I believe so, I think for Blood fresh supply or something

Since atari owns the rights still

I'd kill for remaster ports of the Rush Series. Extremely underrated and insanely fun racing games that I think are among the best in the genre

#

Unfortunately I think everyone just wants FPS ports from Nightdive, so I have no hope this will happen anytime soon

Quick bit of research results in the fact that, apparently, Atari had an acquisition of Nightdive Studios last year. So while it's most certainly possible, again, I have no hope because of what everyone else wants

So apparently, Warner Brothers owns the franchise rights and all that. Dunno if they'd ever do anything with it, so maybe Nightdive does a cheeky little talk and nicely acquires this to bring it back.

Sure as heck that WB ain't gonna do anything with this franchise anytime soon. Someone gotta get their number and bring these racers back!

There are a ton of WB owned games that Nightdive wants to make happen. If you see a NOLF announcement, that means the dam has broken open and it's open season for WB games

I pray to nightdive's highest powers that they send that dam crashing down with a torrent of games to be freed from it

#

and should it happen, they haaaavee to snatch the rush franchise :3

wait do we know for a fact that the NOLF rights are held by WB now? last I heard nobody knew for sure

I say if they've threatened that route, high chance they've got the rights

vagrant rain

or they're just overconfident and stupid which is perfectly on brand for WB

#

a similar thing happened with Nintendo and Universal over Donkey Kong where Universal sued Nintendo over the game's similarities to King Kong, only for Nintendo's lawyers to find out that not only did Universal not have the rights but had previously gone to court to prove that parts of it were public domain

#

unfortunately ND doesn't have anywhere near the legal resources to call a bluff like that

Currently the CLOSEST thing that exists to a remaster for this is a fan port that's about to get support for Rush 2049's arcade version https://youtu.be/L4X2nEEbr_g?si=4WiIMsWONhsyR1Xv

Early development preview of ProjectR 0.7.0 featuring support for San Francisco Rush 2049. Still more to do and things to fix but it's good enough to show off a couple of races. A DualSense (PS5) controller was used for input.
