Think of this way original trilogy remastered plus a remake of what is considered the worst entry for the franchise to make it good which then means all major carnivores games are available on modern system and instead of idk remaking already good games like the trilogy we actually have the franchise move forward for once with a new 4th entry that continues after cityscape or after ice age

i don't see how you would think about denying that same opportunity for the originals games which are already good and any new content and systems added could launch the experience into something better

modding shouldn't be an excuse to push aside a greater opportunity. we don't need that kind of bethesda mentality

i get that we got burned the last time a remake happened but if there is even a chance a new remake of the ogs could happen, it'd be in far better hands

Half-assing isn't really the way Nightdive approaches projects. It implies a lack of effort that seems antithetical to how the company handles remasters.

If you want to make the argument that the final product isn't the ideal of what it could have been, you could point to absent multiplayer features.

I haven't looked into a lot of the details of Turok's development, but in general what Nightdive wants is source code (to prevent costly in terms of time decompiling) and a willing publisher. Universal has been very willing to work with Nightdive, so that's certainly not an issue.

I'm hoping a future project is a combined Rage Wars and Turok 3 multiplayer suite, either as DLC for Turok 3 or a separate product

but that's just a hope, not any knowledge

It's a mixed bag. If you played HD or Reborn it's basically the same thing but on Unity. And there is a DLC that adds 2 new creatures but it was highly controversial within the community

Honestly the 2022 entry in the Carnivores saga is a shameless cash grab and giving it any brand recognition beyond the objectively necessary does our beloved IP a disservice.

It does offers no improvement or expansion beyond the original and the fact that they took Reborn, the actually functional title between the two PC versions off sale is nothing short of a travesty. It demonstrates a clear lack of faith in their product and I can't stand for that.

If I wanted to play the same game over and over again, I'd just play the original game, or go play CoD.

The most grating part about these 'reboots' is that each and every time it comes out, there's a promise of this, and that, and Workshop, and more dinosaurs, and more maps, only to get a shitty asset flip DLC and radio silence.

Something that doesn't require 15 baby sacrifices, 9 prayers to Nyarlathotep, and a frozen goat to get running on modern systems.

I'll take any visual improvements we can get so long as it doesn't stray too far from the original's 90s low poly style or the moody atmosphere of the original maps.

But back to the point at hand, I just kind of feel like Digital Dreams doesn't really want to work on Carnivores in earnest and instead pumped it out to make a quick buck off the back of a game they've abandoned twice before.

And if that's the case, they should just hand its development to a dev studio that does care.

How did you find out about carnivores?

I found the first game on a torrent tracker when I was 6-ish. That version had äëōäüä gibberish in place of dinosaur names

I was deathly afraid of confronting carnivores so i stuck to farming points via stegosaurs, never made it to t.rex. I did on carnivores 2, though

Eons ago, I played CDH and CIA (free version) on mobile. One day, I decided to type the game's name in youtube, and I fell across Saurian Target's cinematic hunts (the one on Yangchuanosaurus). I watched several videos on other mods, but because I didn't understood well english at the time. It fell in the back of my mind (school was a hard time for me for reasons I won't expose).

In 2022, I reminded the mobile game. And as I played it, I remembered that mods existed and I decided to type " Carnivores Mods ". I found the mystery dinosaur game. hey i know there isnt any official progress or an actual project, but i'd like to share at least some of my recent works in terms of a private remaster project. these models share altered meshes and new uvs/textures and with some alternate models for variation.

if there ever is any official project planed i'd absolutely would love to volunteer and work for the team : )

There is still a community that plays dino d day every saturday night, servers got up to 20 players, also There is a modding scene, improving and fixing Things in maps, its similar to carnivores although a bit more limited

Freaking potential got throwed down the window once the devs abandoned the game

As far as I know they've never really disappointed anyone

Plus they bring old games to new platforms you could only really play on their og systems or with an emulator

Disappointment can only come from an expectation being placed upon Nightdive. All the community effort was going to accomplish was get attention to a large fan base and have that fan base's desire be known. I've made sure to pass along to staff that the desire is the first 3 games being remastered is the largest part of what's wanted and failing to support the existing mod scene is a deal breaker.

I can't speak to whether or not Nightdive will take up such a project, but they certainly know what the fans will expect of the project if they do take it up
