Is it?
Dinohunt padding out that runtime for max revenue
Timmy wtf did you do

The heck was that?
Now it's fixed
Rat
Doesn’t know exactly what year carnivores franchise took place
Fake fan

Tbh I'd only listen to the Carnivores mobile menu theme if I was that horse
Mobile menu theme is just goated
Simply put
I hope c2 and cia get new remix’s for the remaster
And c1 gets a new theme entirely maybe inspired by carnivores hd menu theme
The Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter HD (PS3-2013) menu theme, presumably composed by Oleg Bondarenko.

Tho tbh I do expect the original music/chirps to remain the same
It hurts do bad seeing sauropods drawn in the background knowing they never appear in the game
Brachiosaurus was also pretty dam close to making it too 😭
If your favorite piece of music in Carnivores was MENUAMB.wav
Then you are a true Carnivores fans
I can listen to MENUAMB.wav all day
I love this theme so much
Espacially MENUAMB.wav from the first two game
And it gets even better when you hit alt-tab
Torture
year 5163 BC
Lol
Plus currently a member's home is being repaired and another is sick
Ohh thats why
Mhms
I wonder what is happening with dde
But I do think ND can see our huge interest in this classic trilogy being remastered
Are they ever going to update there damn game
Dde?
Digital dreams entertainment
That kinda depends
But I still think a remaster of the classic trilogy would be better than hunt
I would like the hunt
Hunt is just a basic hunting game with dinosaurs imo
Cuz of the modern graphics
Modern graphics doesn't always make a game good
I like the graphics tbh
Ik
cough cough concord cough cough
Cdh hd and reborn
They are the same acutely
Hunt is just a port of those
Yp
Well atleast i wish that they make it modbly
This is kinda sad tbh
Guys i have a question
What make the mods for dinosaur hunt is to slow?
I mean why aren’t we see mods for it
I'm just curious to see what Bundle is typing
Same xd
Just as a heads up, the process for starting from scratch to announcement of a game will take years unless it was already in the works. Gotta set meetings, work out terms, gather old code, reach out to old devs, establish a budget, assign staff, figure out what to do with old code, and after all that is done (probably more that I'm not thinking of) can an announcement be made
Because they give alot of useful info considering they're a server mod
So we might wait for years
“Sad”
Well hey atleast we might get a remaster
Yeah
We just have to be patient 🙏
I gusse thats fair
I had to wait months for the release of the thing remaster when I heard of it
And the only time I heard about the game was my dad telling stories about the ps2 one he played
At this point i wish that dde update the game
OH THATS SO SOO LONG AGO
Hm?
i mean that was years ago
I didn’t find the exact word
Btw do u think that the remaster will have any cool features?
Or its gonna be the same game but on modern engine
Same game polished up
that is what game development is
Will this win the vote?
Sorry if my description of a vote have the wrong impression, there's no end date. The value of these numbers is in showing that there's a passionate fan base with a strong desire.
I see
From my reading of the thousands of messages, most of the desire centers around the Action Forms trilogy with an emphasis on supporting the existing mod scene
And not a steam release?
There’s a small chance they’re working on a remaster as we speak
Source: It was revealed to me in a dream
That's worded a bit confusingly. Are you requesting for more than just steam (as in gog and consoles?) or are you expecting ND to skip steam?
Oh I thought you meant JUST more mod support.
ND wouldn't skip a steam release.
Could mods be ported to steam? Like to the workshop?
I dunno, I'm not a tech savvy person, just a moderator. I don't see why it couldn't be, but Nightdive would want GoG players to have access to mods as well, so I don't know how anything would look in terms of implementation. I'm just noting that not supporting the mod scene at all would likely result in revolt
The labor has gotta be compensated, especially with Atari being a publicly traded company.
Since we're talking about a commercial product instead of a fan effort
#1149864293379088446 message logistically, unless such a project was already in the works, it'll be years IF it is taken by Nightdive
If this shit is taking years to be out it better give us a much better vision of the OG designs
Tbh i don't care too much about staying like the originals as long as it resembles them enough
Yeah ya heard me lol
If it's better than before than it's great
I'm not trying to complain or been an ass either
Come on, imagine if we get smth like this
Would be cool
thats pretty much
what i suggested at first
redesign the roster, give new designs
if so much time and effort will be spent into improving the whole base game and keep it viable for modern versions of windows + much better mod support and expanded mechanics
Like that one cancelled project by pivot naza?
i feel like some of this yearly time can be spent for creature redesigns
tho idk
best to just edit some stuff off the originals, not entirely redesign them
Ambients could probably be left alone, js give them some enhanced textures
Allosaurus and Velociraptor could have a few modifications, maybe diff headshapes and proportion edit
and etc
The rex having the box art design is def a must
I personally think they should keep the original designs independent from the the time It takes to developt the remaster
we are not saying they should be the main focus
I know
Yes but that doesn't resemble the og style
ofc improving the basegame itself is the main thing to do at first
which is where the retexturing ofc comes in clutch
Let them cook
but honestly i feel like they can do a more accurate resemblance to the poster art
because idk, as much as GFS brought in the only mod for the poster rex
it’s not that accurate
see this statement here is why i can't really agree with completely redesigning away from their original designs (instead of doing the faithful refurbishing) for the route for this remaster because there is a clear bias.
you cannot say you want stuff to be completely changed and then say leave the rest to not change because then you have a situation of inconsistency. either all get the redesign or none do and refer to just being touched up for the sake of the remaster.
I'd rather have new stuff than modded stuff we can get for free but tweaked
retexturing can just change that issue
then that's up to the modders
.
aren’t all the animals being retextured
for the basegame
and not
modders
i’m pretty sure that’s one of the plans for the revamp
But doesnt the posters have a interely different Idea than the carnivores itself? The posters is more 90s, and dont depicts the original designs of the game
to retexture and edit models
the poster was done before the game
afaik
refer to the thing remaster
noticed in the comparisons that despite their model upgrade and texture upgrades they still conform to their original depictions
what is being suggested from you and onze (especially in regards to duane's cover rex) is for the design to stray from the in-game depiction
Perhaps, Just improved textures for the Animals would be more apropriate
i mean the poster rex could always just be more represented as the base game rex with a little more bulk added into it with some more prominent details like a little pattern change
Without heavily modifying the models
What is wrong with wanting a better design
Also
nonetheless it would still be alien
you don’t see a carcharodontosaurid tyrannosaurus that much
I'm not against redesigning other critters
i mean sure, the ambients can be redesigned too ig
nothing wrong with it but considering what route all of nd remasters have done it's clear that complete redesigns are not a goal
they could always go for something new with these games atleast
we are talking about a hunting game with alien fauna
if we go the complete redesign route. we mind as well just have a full on remake which at that point won't even be the original games
Indeed
i'll keep hammering this in. just refer to the thing remaster as the expectation of what we can expect the presenting idea of a carnivores remaster would be
no extreme redesigns, just faithful but clearly refined updating
Tbh that's good enough as is
i guess at this point only modders can do god’s work
Let them cook
if we want redesigns, then pray everything goes so well between tatem and nd that a remake can fulfill that need for redesigns
it’d be atleast cool if the devs on their own decided to tweak around the designs but whatever
if they have their usual ways of remastering things
let them flow as they always did
but for now, the expectation is remastering. look at the rest of their latest remasters and that will and should be the bar of expectation for the theorized carnivores remaster
Btw, if the remaster allows for bigger terrain textures, and high poly map objects this will already be ahead MEE itself on this aspect
I'll mod the shit out of it when possible
i want the remaster to actually let us make more detailed models
as much as the flat details has always been unique
should be more 3d
rigged eyes, 3d teeth
tongues maybe idrk, would make roars and whatnot more lively
just expand the model quality capabilies
As long as carnivores legacy is ported to the remaster, I can rest
MEE doesnt allow for more high Poly models?
i mean like
not entirely subdivided stuff
allow for much more polys
let the models look even smoother with more freedom in modelling like fully defined heads and limbs
i mean definitely not 10k tris or some shit
afaik MEE only allows for 1080 tris models
or smt
We Will see How It Goes
would be nice if the remaster would atleast expand to like, 4 or 5k tris for a model
mee allows infinite but our tools only allow up to 2048 for animals and still 1024 for map objects
that’s exactly why i hope the remasters expand the tools capabilities
so there’s more freedom with the modelling without minding a specific limit, although still make sure it doesn’t make the game lag horribly or crash
but as of now
i reaaally hope that lighting is completely overworked
maybe mobile port level of shaders?
with water reflections, better atmosphere and all that
Is the fungus a cannom thing?
id said maps would need a higher topology count aswell
Even if a carnivores remaster by ND will possibly take a few years I'm still happy about one possibly being made 😊
this is super neat
kind of an ark-style dossier for the creatures
What about the mobile port grass?
Mobile port grass is just a spam
I'd rather not have the grass if there'll be a graphics setting in the remaster that removes it
Wdym
Won't take more than a year for sure
You never know what they may try to cook
Are they working on anyhing else atm?
they’re on a hiatus atm
Likely turok evolution
Not confirmed tho
Mostly because 2 staff members are having problems rn
1 is sick and the other is getting their home repaired after a tornado
The maps have a pretty low topology/resolution
the terrain is a model like everything else
O damn
Oohhhh i think i know what ya mean
Yeah it kinda sucks
Not sure how this could be worked around thought
If we get high res textures i'll already be extra happy
Metal Arms and Carnivore fans in this server (I used a Jurassic Park model I'm sorry)
Good enough
Nightdive, when you hear carnivores theme song It means the community its nearby.
PEAK
Thanks lol
Me when GameSpy is no longer active
We'll get Primal Prey Remastered after Cityscape
Lil bby cow
Perhaps BOTH should come together as a BUNDLE or somethin
Cant WAIT to ESCAPE from the CITY in CITYSCAPE
If they come in a collection of carni 1 + 2, ice age, and city scapes, then I'll shit myself (with glee)
I shit myself unprovoked
The Carnivores franchise happens after 2190, which is the year FMM UV-32 was discovered. It's important to note that this doesn't mean the franchise takes place in that year specifically, that's just the date the planet was discovered. The original games don't specify which year they take place on or how many years have passed after FMM UV-32's discovery. The mobile ports state that DinoHunt Corp. bought the planet 60 years after its discovery, which would mean that it takes place somewhere after 2250, though not necessarily in that year specifically. However, I don't know if the mobile ports can be considered canon to the Carnivores lore and universe.
pov: debug mode
Is there sexual dimorphism in Triassic now?
I made that specifically for that meme
Oh oks
:3
that's why they were cut
Why
Me playing the mobile demo back in the day where Allo, Velo, Chasmo and Spino could randomly spawn without displaying on the map
Relocsting onto mountains sitting there for 20 min waiting if one will walk into render distance
I find it funny how I designed my character's armour similar to the DHC agent armour before I knew what they looked like
please please please please
i mean with Tatem as the new official owners of the Carnivores IP it may as well be
considering there’s a lot of missing gaps in the carnivores lore as is
That's a meme lol
i need that model
What model
the gun or the lobster
It’s is a real huntable car file
One more for Primal prey fellas cmon
Wait, does Tatem actually own the Carnivores IP? I thought they only got the permission to make the mobile ports
Helllooo everybody my name is Saurian Target and welcome to Five Nights at Freddy's
im pretty sure they do considering they (and digital dreams) made HD/reborn/dinosaur hunt
Oh, makes sense
though they abandoned that game 3 times
Then shouldn't the job of remastering the original trilogy be on their hands?
should be, but they’ve neglected carnivores for years
I’d trust Nightdive more tbh
Yeah, I noticed it
So in this case, will Nightdive need to buy the rights of the Carnivores IP or something?
I don’t think so
since it’d be a remaster of the old games rather than brand new games
if they were to make new games under the carnivores IP they would probably need tatem’s permission or buy the rights
if anything they might need contact with the original action forms carnivores devs
So for remasters, they only need permission?
Is Primal Prey an actual spinoff of Carnivores? Because I've seen some people saying so
the only connective tissue is todd marshall because he also did the designs for cityscape
To be more accurate, the company that made Carnivores Cityscape is the same that made Primal Prey
That's the only thing connecting them, but it doesn't mean Primal Prey has any relation to Carnivores
basically
So I don't know why some people claim/consider Primal Prey as a spinoff of the Carnivores series
Like, even the fandom wiki claims this
But yeah, fandom wikis are not a trustable source because anyone can edit them
I don’t even think Primal Prey is a spinoff. They’re both dinosaur hunting games but they got nothing in common besides, well, being dinosaur hunting games.
As it was mentioned, Todd Marshall’s dinosaur designs are the only thing that link Primal Prey and Carnivores.
Spinoffs usually take place in the same continuity
I guess both games have the same music composer too
and the composer yes
But I might be wrong
2001
i was born the same year cityscape came out
One year before Cityscape
ye
crashes a lot
Multispecies Multikill is the most annoying mission to get all three stars on
because of the RNG
Game crash for no reason
Underpaid mission
Dinosaur rarely spawn
And the weapon is stupid
they spawn but there’s usually only one group of the species on the map
which sometimes they can be difficult to find
I feel like cityscape pistol is more useful than any weapon in primal prey
-# even though it's not
sniper rifle and railgun tho
the cityscape pistol uses marshmallows for ammunition i swear
you would be better off using your fists if that was an option in the game
me looking at vivisector
don't mention that game
I almost lost my computer because of that game
famous last words "oh god i hate instructions"
I’m gonna make a video for ND to be able to see what the community wants out of the remaster so just wanna ask what you guys would want to see out of it besides new content or dramatically changed content
Need a hand?
i could certainly help with the more realistic expectations/beneficial/unbiased takes
say it if you got some ideas
i'll cobble up the ideas and post them some time later
Sounds good
Cityscape remake in a republic commando style? Like the squad based gameplay?
Btw How a cityscape remaster would Work out? Like, the game is not good by itself, and Just improving the graphics seems quite lame, would nightdive add more stuff like levels, redoing some missions?
First off cityscape would probably not be part of this collection
Its too different from this trilogy to be considered
A remaster would mostly just fix technical issues ai and the textures of the map so it could visually look gorgeous
New levels to make this game longer isn't out of the question
As doom 1+2 has new levels created for it
Because I can imagine new levels being mainly for the online mode
Also a thing I'd like to see for cityscape is a new map where it emulates the original games hunting
One large map that takes place on FMM UV32 never before seen
Just for fun you can't collect trophys or anything all you can do is survive on it until you run out of ammo
Or play online mode with friends
Maybe some more new dinosaurs based off Todd marshalls art mainly more herbivores
I'm just spit balling here but Cityscape is such a shallow entry that altering or adding anything to it specifically won't take away the original feel of it all that much
hence why i push more for vivisector because unlike cityscape there's more modding potential to be had there (considering it was made by the same carnivores devs) and is far more functional to be worth remastering
In a perfect world, we would have both
But I'm pushing for cityscape more because if the trilogy does happen
Logically speaking the saga will more likely go and vote for cityscape and push that to be the next
After the major carnivores titles are done
I'm sure the saga will have contributed enough to give a shit about vivisector
Cryostasis I have no hope for that's even more obscure than vivisector
alrighty well i got a doc rolling. tried to remember the general gist of what most folks would want while also putting in my own wishes that are hopefully within moderate expectations. probably haven't jot down everything but from a lot of conversations and (again) moderate expectations this is what i got
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-1u-FtU9VL5i3Q8GMAWRzKmGvOFqBbhQ28w7NKpVVUM/edit?usp=sharing
Remaster Wishlist Application All 3 games (Carnivores, Carnivores 2, Carnivores Ice Age) accessible through the Main Menu. [i.e. the Master Chief Collection, Mass Effect Legendary Edition] Game graphical options/controls affect all 3 games whilst game specific options (Animal Aggression, Se...
btw i know nd won't read it because of docs but this it for generally the peeps here
Probably a good plan. My notes were Action Forms trilogy of games and supporting the existing mod scene, but I'm an outsider
I can pin it if you want
I'd say that's a good idea
give it a pin sir bundle
I'd also will make a comprehensive video on this
And some other stuff I wanna add
Onto
if you got ideas send them my way and see if that'll fit well with the expectations
Will do just gotta make sure it isn't already on the list
Reason why it would be better as just one application is simply because the trilogy of games are all so similar to one another that they are basically interchangeable, especially in modding you could drop a carnivores ice age creature in carnivores 1 by just changing the name of the file the significant difference between the games is what is available in each one
Carnivores 1 is incredibly limited cause it doesn't have the res file while Ice age and c2 do
ye i also made a note about how very little differences there are between engines so being able to mimic them by using ice age as a starting point and getting the rest of the mechanics from prior entries in would make it less messy
i hadn't gone too verbose on it but the general ideas are there, especially since modders edition also makes the uniformity between games more easily mimicked
I'd color code to indicate how strongly the community feels about which ideas. Which ones are gonna cause the whole project to not be worth it if left out versus nice to haves, and stuff in between
Yea that makes sense
how many color indications do you think we'd need?
Probably 3-5
You know the community, check in with them on the list and feel out the vibes. You could also make a notes column if it'll help
boy i'm sure the community would just want all the be strong wants on a lot of things
Yea honestly tho
It would probably not be a bad idea to separate modding from the remaster itself
heck a lot discussions here were mostly expecting a full on remake
That's why I kept my notes as vague as this, as they felt like the only real dealbreakers
i did at least put some modding needs in a sense that would generally appeal to the current state of modding. like a much better mapping tool since that bozo of a program is a pain in its current form
Yea modding is an absolute must but I would like the community to actually think first about the state of the game
And then modding stuff
modders edition stuff would be low priority but i wanted to ensure that the engine modding would be more accessible since it took us literal years to finally crack the nut on that
and i also don't want it to undo all the already made progress we made with modders edition so ensuring there's a better ease of access would hopefully make the transer less of a pain
That is also true
regardless i'll try to color each bullet point with what would be prioritized with the general consensus i and the community has had when it comes to stuff needed and wanting
I skimmed through it a bit
I think Velociraptor should have pack hunting if mobile ports and mee can do it I think it he fair for remaster to have
And I know its a big change but technically speaking if the raptor was the only dinosaur to have this
The role would still exist via allo and spino
pack hunting would most likely fall under what modders edition stuff we'd want. i still want to try and adhere to what the originals had and leave whatever larger changes (like ice age renames) as more of a seed planted rather than a mighty need due to mee.
Fair on that front but I'm mainly looking at this at the point of view of someone who doesn't want to mod their game so at least having the raptor being in maybe a pack of 3 wouldn't be a gigantic change imo also I think its important to mention that most if not all the creatures need a resize and weight fix up
If memory serves right c2 had cerato and spino use identical stats
And ice age creatures are unbearable to hunt because of how skittish all of them are
Especially the yeti
ye i did mention readjusting aggression (or the lack there-of) of ice age animes
except yeti because a cryptid is clearly going to be evasive as fuck
I think the yeti should definitely be very aggressive
I understand the cryptid runs away aspect but
i mean the change between timid and aggressive is pretty fast considering the yeti itself is the fastest animal in any of the games
Also most buggy
it's all about whether you are in that radius or not
You know what the yeti just made me think
For the remasters why don't all the locked creatures not get shown or name dropped until they are actually unlocked
Basically the bonus slot from ice age but to everything
There is a lot of small details they could add to make the experience more cohesive
well at the end of the day its whether or not the amount of work is worth being a faithful remaster or just a remake. and i am trying to keep anything that is already on the modders edition spreadsheet being treated as low priority because again the priority should be to ensure what we've already achieved through mee can be easily transferred and not just another stack of work for nd to implement and such work could have been better off spent on a remake
Makes sense although to be fair the trilogy is always gonna be part of the remaster territory as what we are basically just doing is updating it
That's what a remaster really is at the end of the day and a remake is probably a long ways ahead from now
If it ever will happen
but also this is also why i did say initially that i was going for more realistic expectations/beneficial/unbiased takes because yea there are a lot of things that could very much enhance the overall experience like what legacy does but there has to be an understanding that any more extreme changes and additions (like pack hunting) would most likely not be in it because of how very different from the original experience it is. and plus with the push for us needing modding we would most likely already fix a lot of those kinds of needs. (especially for a steam workshop i bet you a pack raptor mod would be in an essential mod collection)
You know fair on that front
Also what do you think about c2 weapons being part of c1
And I guess the c1 shotgun filling up the other two games or the pump action and db shotgun are gone and only thing that gets ported is the pistol and rifle
This one was just a random thought honestly I can take it or leave it
i'm sure the weapon rosters would stick to their respected games but i'm sure modding them into each other in the remaster would be the upmost easiest thing to do
I do hope a minecraft type instance can be implemented for easier mod management
Instead of having replacement mods we just load up different versions of the same game we created
the problem with minecraft is that it does make dupe installs which does bloat memory quite a bit. mod management should be relatively easy with the steam workshop and whatever improved system for injecting mods would be present
i did make notes of what could potentially be less messy and conflicting ways file management could be regarding minor little addons to major total conversions
Actually I think Doom 1+2 has a mod manager
Would not be surprised if it operated similarly to that
Whatever ND comes up with I'm sure it will be serviceable
Disregard, I'm not familiar enough to speak on how things are set up
Cityscape needs a remake, not a remaster
Tatem promised to bring the mobile ports to Steam like 8 years ago or something and it's been nothing but silence since
NightDive doesn't own turok iirc and they did the turok remasters

It's just permission they need
Idk just a guess
Its safe to say that project has been dead
which has brought us to this moment
Oo I see
Guys, Is this gonna be like an unofficial remaster or an official?
What list?
This.
All of that sounds very good to me
the only thing I disagree with this list is keeping the misspelling of archaeopteryx and brontotherium but other than that this has everything
though maybe adding rare variant dinosaurs could be a cool addition
like albinos and melanistics for example
also I think the Dire Wolf of FMM UV-32 is moreso based on Canis dirus before the species was found to be more fox-like than wolf
tatem really gave us a massive middle finger with that steam port of carnivores dinosaur hunter
They're not the real animals in the lore
So it technically doesn't matter
They're aliens that happen to have evolved to look similar to specific animals on earth

to be honest that's kinda all i want out of it, but that's just me personally, just a port to modern hardware with a heavy support for mods, as all those years of mods having support would be a huge plus
i'm aware but s t i l l

tatem takeover
by nightdive
is my dream
real
tatem hq
is dead
to me
isn't the CEO of tatem the same guy who was CEO of action forms
no
he was co-founder and executive director
but he is founder and CEO of tatem
wait
no action forms was a few people
he was amongst the founding team
what happened to action forms
saurian target said they merged into sunstorm but in wikipedia it said their fate was 'dormancy'
they never merged as far as i know
sunstorm made cityscape but
action forms is dormant
dormant as of 2011
exactly i wondered cuz cityscape resembles the originals little to none
dormant means they'll never come back too?
sunstorm just had permission
they could but i doubt they're going to
if nightdive manages to pump out a remaster for sure action forms will have some sort of involvement
even if it's very little
ye
what is this
A hyrax
many reasons
wanna know what else is cool & cute?
Wot
A
why are cityscapes designs so ass btw
they're just worse primal prey designs
ironic cause it's one year older
cityscapes dinosaurs are t-posing like more than half the time
throughout the game
Yeah, it's good to establish what are deal breakers and what are things to strive for and what's nice to have in case the IP holder attempts to set bad terms in initial meetings or in case the deal breakers require a larger than expected budget, things that will help with the planning phase instead of trying to drastically steer the ship mid course (a fast track to development hell)
Keep in mind, I don't know a thing about this series beyond what I've read here, this is all generic thoughts about the setting up of a project
A port with better textures, slightly better models, and better mod support
Aka a remaster
Yeah my thoughts too, but it's good to emphasize the mod part in case that gets overlooked, as it seems more vital to this fandom than it does with others
to be treated as on par with Quake mods, very vital to it's lifespan
nightdive will take care of it don't sweat it
at the same time they removed workshop from turok 2 & 3
as well as no multiplayer for turok 3
That's why we love NightDive because they listen to/care about their community
hows it going hunters how we feeling
I'm feeling awesome
Would you even want to see a new game and if so what would it be like?
I feel like you shouldn't move away from the grotesque low poly visuals
(late response, i just woke up)
fair but the grandest majority of the community has accepted the misspellings (especially the sect that is super into what lore we can get for the series)
as for the rare variants (albinos/melanistics) that is still too big of a change for a remaster and more worthy of a remake
Honestly Carnivores is one IP that, in my opinion, Nightdive should seek to acquire in its entirety if that's possible. I'm not sure how much opposition it'd face from Tatem who evidently doesn't care enough to actually keep iterating on its strengths and massively niche subject matter.
To make new games?
wondering if such feat is possible since the most i can tell is that nd just has the licenses to the ips they remaster and not complete ownership
but their is a chance they can take carnivores that would be pretty awesome
i don't see carnivores recieving a remake any time soon
remaster is coming for sure tho
we know this but i am telling them that their suggestion for the new animal variants is more remake territory than remaster
true
i think it should stay this way
i don't see that much of a reason for carnivores getting a remake other than graphics
it's a relatively simple game
i mean, a remake would at least validate all the more expansive ideas that a lot of folks have been trying to put forth as suggestions for this remaster
remaster is much more fitting
but since we're here mainly for a remaster then i have to keep hammering it in that any more larger changes would constitute a remake rather than a remaster. which is why i got the doc together that focuses more on what already is that is for a remaster rather than a big ol' list of remake content and concepts
a remake would be much more fitting on smth like cityscape
but i don't see that happening either sadly
yea and realistically that energy would rather be put into a vivisector remaster since the connective tissue engine-wise is way more present than cityscape
well a remake would run on a seperate modern engine rather than that
but what i'm saying is that vivsector originally already uses atmosfear just like the original carnivores games which makes the transition a little easier. and there is the assumption that regardless of carnivores (and maybe vivisector) being plopped into the kex engine would still retain the means of familiarity for modding like the old versions
pretty much all of nightdives remasters are on kex
that's the whole purpose of the kex engine
i heard they have no plans in modernising it which is sad
they're gonna be forced to use some monopolistic bs like UE
(for their remakes)
yes, again, if modding is going to happen it'll most likely be in a familiar vein to how we've been modding the old games. and i am saying that in regards to a cityscape "remake", it would be better to put that energy into a vivisector remaster, because vivisector is already closer to carnivores than cityscape is, and if carnivores gets kex'd and retain modding fidelity, so will vivisector, because the two are closer to modding potentiality than cityscape
modders could absolutely do more with vivisector than cityscape
well cityscape is dogshit and vivisector isn't so
exactly
we're not talking remakes though we are talking remasters
even for the time vivisector looked kinda off to me
the only mention of remake was in regards to cityscape
but i am repeating over and over again that it would be better to remaster vivisector rather than cityscape
looks like a bunch of higher polygon models slapped into the carnivoers 1998 engine
it's not that deep bro
we gonna get a carnivores remaster so we all win
Then we can rub alien dino bellies
And give them treats

I'm obsessed with rubbing animal bellies if you haven't noticed
Mostly because I have a cat who loves belly rubs
yes carnivores will be the ultimate priority on us. but for cityscape, (to reiterate again) that energy (regardless of remake or remaster) would be better put into remastering vivisector because it has more relation to carnivores than cityscape does to carnivores. as you did say, vivisector looks like the old carnivores engine, because it is (at least a way more upgraded and enhanced version of it)
Also rex easter egg
well that's just an easter egg
vivisector does not look like it released in 2005 lol
looks older than cityscape
then 3 years later action forms released cryostasis which is pretty crazy
it's the same model right?
it's on par with 2005 honestly given the rest of the bigger games
Of what?
tbh yeah alot of early 2000 games looked pretty trash
I think everything should have the correct spelling except for the brontoteriy as that was very much intentionally done
Because it's definitely not a model from C1/C2
it's better than the bullshit modern obsession glaze everybody has over graphics
fair enough
people are getting so sick of it
Also another thing that will need to be done is make sure the fort uses the mobile port menu text
Instead of the c2 menu text as c2 has an error of the location of the fort
nah you right the texture seems to have been nabbed & modified heavily
what was even the point of it
an easter egg
I also wouldn't mind a dino pedia type thing on the game menu selection screen where you can look at the 3d models like jwe2 and just have some extra info ported over from the mobile ports
Plus easter eggs are cool
like they must've spent so much time on the model
and didn't actually add it as an enemy
I mean, some people use nude human models as easter eggs in games because it's funny and it gets lots of attention
maybe it waspreviously made for duke nukem
wait until you hear about the half-life 2 synths
Tbh that's more sad
they were in the game technically
just for like 5 seconds
They don't do anything
they weren't an easter egg
yea ik
but they also weren't enemies to fight
They were gonna be
imagine if that one jackass didn't leak hl2
the presence of something being made in a game that doesn't have a major role does not mean the work put into them (regardless if its an easter egg or not) is wasted
the game would be so different
Well half of the maps were in the more retail stages anyway
Iirc
So most of the stuff was VERY close to the final release
early hl2 beta was too much tbh good they toned it down
would've come off a bit too cheesy'
it's just sad cuz if there wasn't for the leaks they would've for sure finished all that extra content
They explain it more in the HL2 anniversary documentary iirc
they really didn't
but maybe i'm jus trippin cuz i din't watch the full doc extensively
it's so damn long
It's better than people who weren't involved at all saying info about behind the scenes
Anyway
Jumping spiders can dream in their sleep
And it's very cool

That's it I've decided to be the villain
We don't need carnivores remaster let it rot while we get new systems killing it off
Hopefully the box art T. Rex mod is compatible with the remaster, been using it for a couple days and now it’s hard to go back
It can go down one of two ways
Mostly everything will be compatible
And mods will just be easy as pie
Or everything has to be redone and everyone starts porting there stuff
What about the graphics settings?
like remastered mod models vs og
Man now I’m imagining if the reboots were in the style of the OG games, that would’ve been amazing
Yes, what have you done
Digital Dreams give me my retrosaurs back you are not prehistoric hunt
I'm chill with the 90s style maybe not as visually interesting as the originals
But they serviceable
Here is some stuff I was able to pull off
You can cut your visibility
I turned everything red for just because
And idk what happened here
Literally just found all this out rn
Its awesome
Carnivores ice age hd
I really wonder if it was a dummy rolling at the last moment or the guy just went pebble toad mode
it was very much a person
WTF HAPPENED
I GOT BANNED IN SAGA DISCORD
WHAT DID I SAY TO GET BANNED IN THAT SERVER
WHAT I DID I DO?!
WTF???
WHAT IN THE ACTUAL?
DUDE THE NOOZI THING WAS OVER AND THE ACCIDENTAL GENDER TYPO AND ME BEING "TRANSOPHOBIC" IS DONE
Howdy, please don't bring drama from another server here
OK
umm
no it isn't
i don't think they are
oh
idk
also @versed stirrup
how did you made the Google translate edition for Carnivores 2 mod thing
like what translator does broken things
unsurprising tbh
why og rex angy
Because everyone is copying him
Lol
@timber jungle
So is this the most voted suggestion yet ?
Yes
Yes, by a lot
What a history of bad games does to a community
So, by the currently situation of the carnivores games, the votes and all, can you Tell us If there is a good chance of them getting a remaster?
I haven't gotten any feedback on what reactions staff has had to this effort. That may have more to do with timing, as my main point of contact was recovering from flu and I've been seeing a lot of indications that the administrative staff (producers and execs) are all very busy with whatever behind the scenes situations they are handling.
I plan to follow up and rehighlight this crowd effort once things look to be calmer (probably after the next crop of games are announced)
As far as chances go, that has way more to do with 4 factors than anything else:
- staff desire (this is an unknown quantity)
- IP holder willingness and requirements (gotta make a deal or nothing happens)
- source code maintenance (ND is probably not going to take the project if they have to decompile the games)
- fan interest (this campaign has shored up this point, although it's not a deal breaker if there isn't a ton of fan interest, as friendly publisher deals can make pet projects available)
With other companies (Aspyr, for example), it feels like fan interest tends to be a higher priority, since they don't have quite the same autonomy Nightdive does. Gotta make the safe bets to keep above water. But that's what I'm really loving about Nightdive, it's not just crowd pleasers and low hanging fruit
Number two I'm definitely the most worried about in the case of Carnivores.
While Tatem was very mod positive eight years ago, we don't know how they'll feel about a different studio making the modding tools and effectively giving the community sanctioned access to expand the brand to this capacity.
If one of their conditions is no modding tools then we're pretty much back to square one.
I'm sure the community will recover and figure stuff out, but it's just a concern of mine.
What happened to dinosaur hunt? Digital dreams seems to have dissapeared, is the game pretty much abandoned Just like dinosaur Hunter?
Yep.

That's why my highlighting has been as simple as they are focused on the Action Forms trilogy of games and they want compatibility with the existing mod scene. I haven't pushed anything else on this, but I have pinned the more elaborate requests in case a deeper look is needed
The source code should be easy enough since IIRC Tatem has both the C2 and AtmosFear Engine source code.
But the mods are really THE point to push.
Have you been able to take a look at MEE and its patch notes?
The source code is also public iirc
I don't know anything about these games, just what you've been saying in this chat room. Modding is important to you, any remaster should preserve most if not all of it or the remaster wouldn't be worth doing
https://www.moddb.com/mods/carnivores-modders-edition
This is all of the features modders would be expecting, and the mod plans to eventually include features from Carnivores 1 and the mobile games that do not exist in the Carnivores 2/Ice Age engine
I don't think we should expect 100% of mee to make it in the first release
Some yes
But definitely not all
if anything it feels like something else they’d have to make compatible with the remaster
But again that's something that can always be fixed with updates
I’m a-okay with the remasters first then the modders engine
We would be going back a bit yes but the future looks brighter
Unless ND isn't doesn't really update stuff after being finished
@thorny reef
Would ND just do a one and done with only bug fix updates or would there be possibility of adding bonus content for modders
I'm getting the vibe that getting in contact with mee's devs would be a prudent choice if a remaster deal is hammered out.
Case by case is the track record here
Gotcha
Also that should be easy as they are already in this server
The Thing Remastered has different mod tools than original The Thing, but I think other games just drop assets into an accessible folder and have the community do with them what they will
I see hopefully we get some sort of new mod tools because current ones we have work but are very outdated and crash constantly
yeaaaaah the old tools are constantly being ruined my windows' updates and upgrades
some functionality from the og modeller and animator programs ceased to work (but thankfully peeps made some plugins for blender to counter that)
our .car compiler stuff is scattered in functionality to the point that we need 3 to just do one job
and the map program gets so pissy that any attempts to really make any quality map could result in the program off'ing itself and refusing to open the project anymore because of "lack of memory"
definitely the case. he's in this server @/ornithomimid1 and i'd say he has a pretty good idea of how the engine ticks considering he managed to merge exclusive functions from c2 and ice age into one
(i did make notes of this in my pinned doc)
Jesus christ
When you tell the autistic dino fans that the turok remaster company is asking for suggestions
I couldn't be happier
Ah I feel that
Just this tho
Nothing much really when it comes to activity
at least you guys got more fans than us MA fans do. about 320 is all we could muster by ourselves. 1 game that got shadow banned by it's publisher's owner that only got 1 unpublicized rerelease 5 years after the game came out. you guys got a LOT more going for ya
It's still the second highest voted game so I'd say it still has decent odds of an attempted remaster
Carnivores: Cityscape is the best game in the franchise
Carnivores Cityscape Be like:
No please
no it was a joke
i wont
because my channel is already dead
and i dont want you and the whole saga to attack me bruh..
It was a joke
Can you stop pinging me please?
doesn't mean you get to be annoying in this place too
Btw the t-rex model here is pretty cool
I summon the enterity of the carnivores community to help our fellow metal arms fanbase to reach a very high number of votes, Just like what we did for our beloved franchise.
Its seems I have no Power against this plight
technically i already did my part on that a whole ago
Not released yet
Still waiting on the other guys to be finished
Btw If you guys never played metal arms, please give It a try, truly a hidden gem of the PS2 era
I would if it was easily available
Try dolphin or pcsx2 emulator
I tried with My PC who cant run dinosaur hunt on a stable 30 fps, metal arms on PCSX2 emulator, I got It running very smoothly without tweaking any configuration
That, of course, If you have a pc
I don’t think discussion of emulation is allowed on this server
They have to uphold a certain standard
Ok
You can discuss emulation in general, the line is promotion of piracy. I'm a bit lenient on philosophical discussions, but definitely no links to download copyrighted material.
As far as advising how to play metal arms goes, yeah unless you find a physical copy or a 360 HDD that already bought the game before the store closed, emulation is currently the only way to play it.
Oh alright that makes sense
Nice
Just a reminder stuff like this does take years
So all we can do atm is spread the word of what we want
And continue to vote
any news on the remaster?
no news, likely none for years, as Nightdive already has a bunch of projects already lined up
I see.
Patience is key
Hopefully the world doesnt end until then
I’m sure we’ll see the remaster
I should finally give the modders edition a try
I've basically exclusively played the mobile port
me trying to beg every animator in saga to animate and rig for me but i just end up doing this
btw i somehow used an ai to Re-animate yeti
Nvm the animations freeze for a few seconds
That one pixel on the mountain when you have the high ground against carnivores
I felt that kids pain Jesus
a saltriovenator roaring in the redwoods
This is for a update for one of my mods Carnivores:Ancient kingdoms
btw the roar is in cerato but i got it from cmm
the background is acchilobator or raptor and the moshcops blue red purple is titanosuchus
This is saga 2.0 since i cant go post in screenshoots modding general i just post here then
Another saltriovenator roaring
Sniffing
Btw i made the map
btw if the saltri looks small compared to achi its because its a juvi, adults in my mods can grow up to 7-8 meters and 4-5 tons
No it's not
OK
When did you make Saltrio?
Hey I’m out of the loop is there a set amount of votes you need to confirm a rework or carnivores? Also if we do get a rework how will they get the license from the carnivores game to sell the rework on steam
#1149864293379088446 message
I go into more details here, but short version is nothing is guaranteed, as there are multiple ways things can fall apart, from business dealings with IP holder to lost source code to the fact that Nightdive needs to metaphorically buy into wanting to do the project in the first place.
The votes are helpful in showing that there is a large fan contingent and gauging what that contingent needs from a remaster project (MOD SUPPORT), but that's the limit of what the crowds can accomplish
So basically just hope and pray that in the coming years a remake MIGHT come out
I’ve been doing that with silksong and steel ball run so what’s another project ig
I would set expectations on Remaster, as opposed to remake, and any announcement would be years away, as there are already numerous projects lined up. The only ones of those announced are System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition and SiN Reloaded, both of which are looking to be ramping up production for sooner than later launches
for context, Killing Time Resurrected and The Thing Remastered both got announced the same year they were released
Same year they were announced?
That’s actually really impressive
And yeah a remaster would be ideal considering the audio problems with carnivores on win11 plus other bugs
A remaster would be better
We already had reboots
We don't need another reboot cough cough dinosaur hunt cough cough
@fickle bay
@graceful ermine idk if this is added to the list but slight model updates to the weapons as well should be considered
Like c1 shotgun was only like 4 tris
Dinosaur Hunt was just a victim of horrible timing
It’s like the carnivores reboots are cursed
this already adheres to "Visual updates/enhancements for all assets should improve but faithfully adhere to original in-game designs" in the graphical improvements section
So then what? If it fails, then do the fans do a remaster then?
Ah I see thought that only applied to the dinosaurs
Hunt had good timing
When it comes to advertisement and shit
that's why the wording of "all assets" was present, since right now we only have dinosaur examples
My bad
It had a good base to work off of
They just kept on fumbling the park with bad choices
The carnivorous anky and trike and the DLC were two very bad choices
Also from my understanding they straight up did not have an animator hence why the unity assests were used
made worse by the fact those very assets were present in "prehistoric hunt" for those same dinosaurs when that happened
You always have that option, and wouldn't be the first community to have open source fan projects replace the need for a remaster (roller coaster tycoon comes to mind) but it would be worth looking into the delicate legal dance that comes with such projects and their IP holder.
Here's a decent primer on what I mean https://youtu.be/P5Cj-1tN-lY?si=WOdFDyBOu8RCKwnr

Well for now we just to hope and pray that one day, NightDive will remaster this classic trilogy
Really valuable lesson here
close to 600 likes
Carnivores means so much to me more than I ever gave it credit for and as such a remaster of this trilogy is something that must happen whether it’s ND or some other studio
just a few days ago
Okay, only asked since Barry is planning to add one for FK.
ohmygourd
Dis is how I feel playing Carnivores mod at 3am
Ones i finish my exams i’ll play carnivores 3 hours straight
“In midnight”
Cuz its more fun
Btw guys do you recommend any good “ice age” mods?
Like anything except far north
I want something with the same vibe that legacy gives
But for ice age
Try Migration
Not exactly an ice age mod
But still have snow
What is it about?
Sounds cool
And reskin dinosaur
Do you have pics or videos of it?
Kinda want to see it
Im actually waiting for boreal isle
Idk actually if it’s gonna be as cool as far north
Follow me on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/saurian_target
And if you like this type of content and would like to see more, feel free to like and subscribe!
But meh let is wait and see
Oo ik this one
Check out this showcase from Saurian
Ok
The demo is already out
Btw do you know that feeling when you have some ideas of a game or a mod that is hella cool
But u have no way if making it true
I actually have an idea of a game
That includes “prehistoric hunt”
Similar to carnivores dinosaurs hunt
But with much more periods and much more creatures
Still i dunno anything about coding or making a game xdd
So i think it’d still an “idea” that eventually it’d never be true
I meant here that the game includes the mesozoic and Cainozoic era
Triassic Jurassic and cretaceous
Also the ice age, etc..
It’s really early beta but you can try out boreal isles
Its pretty high quality and I think it has the potential to be as good as if not better than far north if they continue
Pov: randos picking the most obscure dinosaur name possible and ask if it ever been feature in the mod
Microceratus
Cenazoic
But anyway
Everyone who joined the carnivores saga had a mod Idea
Even myself at one time
After your mod idea gets shattered by older, more experienced members in the community, either you start producing art or start writing fanfic stories, then, Just then, you start pocking with the engine and more and more, eventually you gonna release your First crappy mod, but yea, If you persistent you also eventually get better
If you lucky, also getting some friends along the way
modeling this for my friend and I's carnivores fangame on boblox
existence is pain

ok fine
remasters and remakes are different
we already had 3 remakes/reboots
