Is there a way to change the floor height without editing the fbx? I want to use shoes that are different heights (across different avi uploads, since it seems there isn't a way to change this outside of Unity/Blender) without them clipping into the floor. Currently I'm doing this by raising the hips bone in the model setup but doing it this way means I'd have to edit the FBX each time I want to make a change to an avi since they're all using the same fbx
how do i get the particles to sync up with the animation?
the animtion is at 36 frames but I cant really calulate the time of that in total

Again, the type of the variable driving this is not really relevant
You'll probably need to not do this as a single animation that you index into though, instead triggering different animation states with a separate animation for each outfit, and an Animator Play Audio on each state.
But that's just a question of logic, and I don't know how you currently have it, so just guessing at where you might be stuck

one of the menus in the animation window, i forget which, but if it's an animation made in unity it defaults to 60

well i'd suggest lowering the length of your audio first
you can easily do a fade out to like 1 second in audacity
just to make the tail of the sound shorter
also when I put 0.36 in duration for the bullet its much faster in repeating time
then since the audio is played all the way through by the time you play the animation twice, you only need 2 audio sources to ensure it won't get cut off
well this is why i asked, how are you triggering the audio and the particles?
hi there! new here ":D just wanting to ask... i'm really new to adding my own characters using unity and could use some help. i tried some tutorials and have bought a character that i can insert into unity successfully but i want to add my own assets to it but cannot find any good tutorials on how to add them / every asset is added differently (interactive ones, stationary props etc.) does anybody have a good tip :C

well they did, but they used VRCfury, which they didn't have a tutorial for, so i fall down into a rabbit hole of "i want to add a spray bottle -> i need a tutorial for VRCFury -> Person uses different tools from VRCfury that don't get explained" etc. . i tried following it but the folder is sorted completely differently then in the video so it makes it difficult to follow.
i don't use vrcf so i can't help there
they did a non vrcfury one too, but the folder seems too confusing :C
basically I have them all under one gameobject and have it turn on for the firing animtion, I tied to have the thing turned off at the end of the animation but it dosent really seem to be working in game

Thats pretty much what it says the rest is just what toggles it has
having 2 full avatars in one is generally very performance heavy and not recommended especially if you're wanting additional toggles ontop of the body swapping like weapons or outfits as every seperated mesh descreases performance ALOT
especially when the mesh isnt optimized

check for a .TXT in the download section or with the files, thats listed as if there was support for VRCFT not the required packages along with the model (its bad practice to include the add-on files with a model since they get updated pretty often and the ones with the model wouldnt be up-to date )

Im just super lost
have 2 seperate meshes that share and are under the same armature one for the normal body and one for the other body though they cant be two very different sizes from each other they'd need to be the same height or it'll get wonky

you should only have one armature
the thing is its a seperate avi so would i change the rig to match the default one
both would need to share the same armature so as long as you merging it means you dont just have 2 full armatures parented together and are fully merged into a single set then yes you'd need to "merge" both
MA wouldnt be how you'd want to do it in this case
this is something you should really do in blender to prevent breaking the model and to make it more optimized imo

yeah its not great that so many use it to make EVERYTHING on their models it breaks toggles and makes stuff messy really quick if they rely on it for everything but with stuff like small assets added onto an existing model its pretty nice imo or removing the excess blendshapes so many creators leave on their paid models

ex. if you notice clipping while the legs are apart, edit the weights in the pose
iust not too much because you could throw it off balance with other poses

has anybody figured out how to make it so when a sub emiter (or any particle) is emited, it plays a sound? Like when I through a grenade and the explosion particle emits it plays a seperate sound to the throw sound I used on the actual grenade particle
you can't trigger sounds from particles on avatars, unfortunately
gotta be a bit more specific like what you sculpted and how you're currently sculpting it

you might just need to practice using it a bit more or manually moving the verts by hand in edit mode if its topology is too weird

i’ve tried doing custom sculpts on multiple heads that offer face tracking, before i sculpt i separate the eye, eyebrow and teeth/tongue meshes from the head and join them with ctrl J afterwards. but when i try to use facial tracking only face tracking works correctly in game, when i get eye tracking to work, theyare sunken or bulging out of the head. is there a step in blender i’m missing that’s causing it? am i not joining the meshes back correctly perhaps?

so honestly, it just looks like these items are glued onto her,
and they should be looser, and fall naturally.
i would recommend not trying to sculpt it to perfectly follow the body curve, just make it drape naturally as a normal clothes or bag would.
you can always look at references too
ok i fixed it up alot but now there's this giant triangle on the shoulder with the purse
go into sculpt mode and grab that triangle with the Grab tool (not elastic grab) and pull it back in

to the blender folks, how would I add a hat to my avatar and create a blendshape on my hair so that it doesn't stick through the hat without having to do it manually? is there any tools for that?
- select your hair object
- go to shape keys (bottom right window, the icon looks like a triangle)
- add a new shape key (NOT Basis, that is what your hair default looks like, add another one and name it whatever you want)
- turn the value to 1.00
- start sculpting/editing and make sure it’s on that new shape key
- you can now change the value back to 0 and switch back to Basis
yes, but since my hair has a lot of polys and a lot of individual hairstrands I'm looking for an easier option
use the elastic grab tool and turn the radius up
then it will select more area
The problem with that is that the areas outside the hat are affected too which leads it to look hella weird

Hey, does anyone know of a good tutorials to make proximity based blend shape contacts? I want to add contacts to my avatar so the more you press on the receiver, the more the blend shape will activate?
use a proximity contact and use that parameter as the motion time of the animation that controls the blendshape
i think hiding parts of the mesh would make them not affected by the sculpts etc. if i'm wrong about that, then i guess you could always split it into a separate mesh temporarily.
well I have this set up but nothing seems to work with the contact sender sphere I made and used in play mode
that does help, but it's still hell lmao
if only you could do something like scoop it over and it just deforms accordigly
i think i made some problems with the avatar i was making.
I would just create an animation like this (first image)
Then create a state using that animation, disabling loop time on the animation clip and use the parameter from the contact as motion time
you're using standard shaders instead of using Mobile Standard Shaders
You could also use the float to drive a blendtree, if you prefer.

so i've recently come across this issue with an avatar i tried to upload, basically i edited the fbx of the avatar in blender, reimported it and after uploading it to vrchat all the bones just crumble and the avatar looks like a contortionist, any help?
did you unpack the avatar prefab in Unity?
that sounds like you exported it with a different scale setting from blender than it originally was exported from, you can try re-exporting with a different one - that fixed it for me

its not that the scale of the avatar itself is wrong, it really is just the avatar bones kind of being in one place, that being the ground
well first try the scaling settings. If that doesn't work, what did you do? Did you drastically change the armature?

sculpting isn’t usually a one-and-done thing, and i’m pretty sure there isn’t a tool that will just do it for you.
it’s not impossible, just refine it with a smaller radius afterwards

by "synced parameter" it means in that list and with the "synced" checkbox checked.

because that is generally a sculpting or edit mode job, which doesn’t work on every model

whats Anchor points?
it's in the mesh Renderers, it says to use a specific object as the anchor point for the lighting
set all of them to the same thing (I use the chest bone) and the lighting will be more consistent

i'm completely new to uploading avatars. i bought one for the first time last night and was following a youtube tutorial to try to upload it but im having some trouble. i did download unity, vrchat creator companion, and my vrc account does qualify for custom avatars but i was having some trouble understanding the error codes and such as i've literally never done this before- if i could stream while someone tells me what to do or walks me through it that would be absolutely great

they use a separate texture for the head and body and don’t design the textures to blend together.
it can be hidden with some shading tweaks, or fixed by editing the face texture

i made a modification of a avatar removing unnecessary stuff like alt wings and alt tail and anatine and it now showing up in the animator i dropped the default base in unity for animation and controllers and such removing the stuff that screws with material swap and such and the stuff referring to the body swap options i kept all the bones where they where i was worried if i touch em they break everything cause of weight stuffs
So they are only a Honeybeefox in this from with a moded ears with 4 instead of 2 i am slowly working on getting my species a full custom modal both male and female

"missing script" means you didn't install something the avatar requires. Check the creator's website or docs to see what they say, and install those things.

Fury is a bunch of tools that are supposed to be "nondestructive" but in reality its not needed and does everything the lazier less optimized way
if it wasn’t needed, then they probably wouldn’t have missing script errors

Heya, question time - delivered a custom avi to a client and walking him through the initial setup. we got vcc installed and the packages set, however after an hour of trying to load up the project, i told him to quit and restart. Now VCC ONLY opens unity hub rather than vcc, and we have no idea how to fix. If you know anything, please @ me so i get notified, thank you.
i use a mix of blendshape toggles and mesh toggles
Attaching with Armature Link merges the armatures, which is what you're doing in Blender. Still optimised

The only time when you get better performance with combining meshes is when they have the same material. Every other time having a mesh that can be toggled off (if you want to be able to toggle it) is better

Merging 2 meshes with 2 different materials in Blender still results in 2 draw calls. It just lowers the mesh count in the VRChat performance rank. It doesn't actually improve performance

Also on the topic of bone count, armature link merges the bones of the meshes you're adding with the avatar's bones. It doesn't quadruple the bone count. It's better than doing it the way we all used to do which was parenting each bone. Merging armatures in Blender or armatures using Armature Link result in the same outcome 99% of the time. It's just non-destructive
And I've explained your multiple meshes/multiple material slots before. If all you're doing is merging the meshes in Blender you still end up with the same amount of draw calls. It's not any more performant. Except if you want to now toggle them off you're not removing the data from VRAM, just hiding them with blendshapes or UV discard, which is less performant

Bit of an update on my client's situation - we decided to just go via unity hub, but it says there's a restricted editor version. had him select the correct version in hub, but it's just crashing him out every time, even after a reinstall.
Question now: is it actually allowed for him to hand me his credentials so I can upload for him or is that a TOS violation? I want to make sure he gets his avatar, so I'm looking for a valid alternative solution
Which if there's a smarter option, let me know. I was thinking uploading myself and letting him clone it off me, but I don't know if that means the avatar will be locked cloneable on him or something.

@ember blade uh, reflection looks comes on quest either from smoothness slider in standard lite just like normal pbr material, then it uses reflection probes of the world. or you can use lit matcap for consistent and more stylised look

for standard lite alpha channel of the main texture allows to control level of metallic i believe so some parts retain more of og texture color and some 'reflect' whatever without tinting

Quick blender question for those who use blender 4.0 and above, back in blender version 2.9 weight paint mode had a keybind where if you held shift and right clicked where your mouse is, you could select a vertex group closest to your cursor, does version 4 have a keybind like that? cause i miss that QOL keybind

there's a plugin for Blender I like, iirc called something like "3d print tools" - it's for 3d printing but it's really useful for finding intersecting faces

i usually used it when a mesh has a metric ton of vertex groups made it easier to find a specific group in the mess

I tend to think of weight painting as very driven by the bones, so I almost always select based on that
in mesh edit mode you can see what groups (and weights) a vertex belongs to though
this is why, some of my projects have too many bones to count

I'm working on an avatar. For this I used an existing avatar base, edited it in blender, then added it back into unity. Unfortunately now my avatar is crumpling to the floor as soon as I start "enter play mode".
I don't know what's causing the issue, but I have some likely candidates for the source of the problem:
I removed bones from the armature, since they wouldn't be needed in my version (e.g. bones for long hair, hand-held accessories, skirt-part of the dress, etc.). This mismatch could be causing an issue maybe? How could I find out if that's the cause?
I set up the avatar by copy-pasting the unedited version of the avatar in unity, moving it to a new spot and placing the new armature & body mesh in there, making sure to copy over any components that were applied to armature or body to the new ones, before deleting the old ones. Maybe the avatar descriptor or some other script might however still be referring to the original mesh, which could cause these issues? How would I be able to find out if all things bound correctly? What settings in particular could be causing such a crumpling up if they were set incorrectly?
Maybe there's something else I hadn't considered that might be the issue?
I'd appreciate any hints and help!
I've checked the rig configuration, which seems fine.
Nevermind, I managed to spot the issue! The 'avatar' field in the animator was still bound to the previous unmodified avatar, whose armature didn't recide in the created copy, so the mesh had nothing to bind onto!

Hello everyone. I know this question has been asked before many times, and I know I've seen a solution here, but try as I might, I can't find it, so here's the question:
What's the best way to go about attaching physbones at both ends? I know it's not possible without some trickery due to the nature of IK, but it's exactly that trickery I'm looking for. I seem to recall someone mentioning something about using an inside-out physbone collider at one end to hold one of the ends in place, but just messing around I couldn't get it to work, so I'm thinking I'm missing something. If anyone has any tips, better methods, or videos they can link me on the subject, I would greatly appreciate it!

Hey question, is there a way to make an animated prop that keeps going until it hits a collider? I'm making a energy orb attack for both pc and quest, and thinking to use the toggle on the pc side to handle the ON and Off on the quest. I dont it before with other things. tbh, you don't really need any fancy shader just the basic particle shaders that comes with VRChat is more than good enough

might be something wrong with how you are setting up things
for the quest side, it's more so so they can see what's happening. PC gets the fancy effect,.
that was 2 years ago, I'm a lot more advanced now so guess I'll take a look into it.
the only major difference is the post processing which is disabled for quest
otherwise, you can achieve the same effect on PC and Quest platform

i have done an orb fireball with quest shaders though
worked like a charm ain't gonna lie
nice. The one I'm working on is shadow ball. The idea is, it charges up and fired from my mouth (im using a pokemon avatar) or hands (cause it's furry) and it will go straight at a slow ish speed. (Still fast) which has a secondary shader that follows it where anything near it would hit with a temporary distortion effect and the point of impact will be hit with a explosion on the outside with a temporarily blindness effect (to imitate knocking out)
I managed to use all of these shaders indivisually, but this will be my first time making a more complex system like this from scratch.
on the quest you won't get any distortion effect since, no post processing and a lot of other things
Oh and my usual custom sound effect as I like making to of those.

vrcfurry might be a little confusing at first but if you learn it, it's quite powerful. Also being able to make your own prehab is a plus.

my personal upload is only 9MB with just about all the clothing that i need + few extra toggles and props and custom upscaled skin textures
the avatar was so unoptimised like Texture memory usage was 450MB
Now it's all the way down to 37MB
and the issue is that the buns shows up even when its not supposed to

then you should also knw what's happening, shouldn't be too hard to debug,
goto you gesture emulator then goto Debug mode,
it will show all the animation that are currently being played

Face is using unity unlit and body has vrchat toon lit. Can anyone explain to me why it gets darkened?
