So i kinda wanna figure something out, i saw an avatar on GUMROAD called the masked sketch but i dont want the avatar but just the cool function that makes it turn 12fps. i love the effect and would love to have it then make it use shaders or trails to have smear frames (I have nearly no experience in making avatars just uploading ones from Gumroad)

instead of toggling things on and off, when you click record for the animation, drag the material you want onto the hair
you could contact the creator and ask how they did it if it isn't credited in the description. most creators are really friendly and understand everyone starts somewhere :)

So they don't go into Much detail but as far as I can tell it's basically two skeletons, one for VRChat rigging and one for the model, the model then snaps onto the vrchat one at a set interval and freezes

This happens to me a lot :c. The normals look fine on Blender, but once I put the model in Unity, only the ears have a transparency issue. IDK what's going on....
If it's a separate object it may have a negative scale in blender, press ctrl+A and apply all transforms

also that's an unpacked FBX prefab, updating FBX files won't show on that. You'll need to migrate things to a packed prefab by dragging the FBX in the hierarchy and working with that (never unpack it)
you can use Pumkin's avatar tools to help migrate to the new packed version

import the unitypackage it's a dynamic bones stub
also you can use Unity 2022 for "Unity 2019 Avatars", it'll upgrade the asset pipeline for you seamlessly

You're going to have much harder time make this avatar quest compatible. The size requirement is under 10MB and I don't thing you have an ability to reach that.

Usually that's for when your avatar being animation blocked on other players. Default staff usually have to be set in parameter.

if you deleted the asset, re-add the unity package, it'll add the files you are missing.
if you deleted them from the hierarchy, simply find the object in your assets and drag it back onto the avatar
You could put a new copy avatar of your avatar into the scene and move some asset back. But this might not work due to lot of factors.

I do strongly recommend not editing files that come from such a package, copy them instead and make changes to your copy, that way you can do this kind of restore or even upgrade to a new version of the package.

Hello, I said something about this earlier but didn't convey it well so im trying again. I need help making a certain kind of toggle. My avatar is currently using 2d expressions, meaning instead of blendshapes moving to form an expression, it just toggles on a different texture for the face. I need a toggle that will toggle the expressions into using a different set of expressions as a whole. as you can see, it has 3 seperate sets of expressions it could use, is there a way to switch inbetween these sets via a toggle?

If I'm correct, you could set them to a diffuse array and have a toggle set to swap between them, using them as the face texture and shifting as you speak or gesture with your hands - if that's how your avatar is set up, at least.

thats the anchor bone. That's the bone the glasses will be attached to. That doesn't mean its actually part of the mesh.

So unless you want stiff, floating glasses, i'd leave them under the Head's hierarchy lol

Something like that, yeah. Don't think I explained it quite right, but the same general sentiment is there. Parameters to swap diffuse arrays through an expression menu toggle.
do you WANT it to be attached as the same mesh to the head/body?
If you want THAT you have to do it in Blender and merge the meshes, making them one model.
But know if you do that, you won't be able to toggle them or anything

Kinda? If you assign it its' own material slot in Blender before merging it, it should get its' own slot in Unity which you can then assign to an EM toggle to animate it to switch between its' main material and an invisible one.
You likely have the head bone as a parent in the original FBX's armature. But I don't know why you would want to separate the glasses, as you'd need to put them there anyway.

This is also true. 99/100 times, paid assets aren't supposed to be shared unless the person fixing said asset also owns it.
hey @native loom where did you get the prefab? usually they tell you how to install it.
If it's an issue of positioning and rigging, that's a Blender issue. You're going to need to parent it to the armature and vertex groups before merging it. If it's a texturing/material issue, that could potentially be solved in Unity - but I need to know which.

If you've got the skills, there's nothing saying you can't make your own that are textured like them.
- Snag a new (NOT pirated) model
- Unwrap the textures in Blender
- Add whatever squiggly lines or however makes it look like those pistols. (I don't know them, so I'm guessing they're semi-stock 1911's with some damascening or something)

If you're really that worried the preview you can try switching out of the avatar, reuploading, and see if the preview updates.

First click on the name of the avatar in the hierarchy, the window on the left side of your screen. After that go to the right side of your screen to the inspector you should see something that says "VRC Avatar Descriptor". Let me know if you see what I'm talking about

If you didn't figure this out yourself. Assuming no new bones got added/renamed then no you shouldn't need to restart completely.
You'll just need to import over the existing FBX. If you want to play safe then export a new fbx then use Pumkin's Avatar Tools to copy over things from the old one to the new one

so i remade my avi's bullet belt (the bullets only) and replaced the old ones
imported to unity (updating the fbx as i always did) and the bullets do not appear, clues?
they use the same material slot as the old ones
rig import settings show them 🤔
Sometimes material slots switch up if you remove and add something. Try different slot. If the rig is fine.
Painful when it happens with 6-7 materials and got to test every slot since materials switch up
Probably bullets are using incorrect texture, and the part is empty
the slot is correct in fact however looks like unity decided to scramble the textures so i might have to remake texture change animations again

Hi there, im trying to figure out why my avatars fingers are curled as shown in the first image here, and why i cant change it without getting a t pose warning as shown in second image, also have what it looks like in blender in the third image

ah i see, didnt realize tail position mattered when everything else converted fine
Your third image is a quirk with how blender reads bone axis. It often happens when importing a skeleton made with something other than blender. It's just a visual representation
As for the finger tips, they likely have a different axis orientation than the other finger joints. If you rotate their axis so it points the same way as the other finger bones, then re-export the FBX, it should fix it.

Sometimes surface deform can not work because of some shenaniganry, you may have to create your own blendshapes manually. At least thats what i think

So im trying to make a toggle to turn on and off this gold and white texture and for some reason its not working but one does and i have set up all of them like that one and non of them work

is All Gold changing all of them ? and bottom of your layers? cause that will ignore everything above it also trying to change them

i would suggest changing 'all gold' to drive the boolean values for the other toggles instead of being an animation itself

all gold can be set a a button that, when pressed, toggles everything on. if you want "all gold" to be a toggle you'd also have to make a state that disables the all gold boolean when any of the other toggles are turned off (which would be a lot more time consuming)

How do you make one toggle disable other toggles in the same list?

well you could use parameter drivers but that doesn't seem to be what you're looking for. I'll give you both answers just in case though:
Case 1, you are trying to make something that has multiple variants or options (like facial expressions or props). None of these options should be able to be selected at the same time, they are just switching between each other:
In this case you would want to use the same parameter for each toggle. You'd want one with more than two possible states, so an Int or Float. Typically Ints are used for this (they can be assigned any value between 0-255).
Case 2, you are trying to have two separate toggles that cannot be toggled at the same time. Individually however, they can be toggled on/off on their own:
For this use case you would want to use a parameter driver on the appropriate animation states, which will change the value of an assigned parameter to an assigned value when transitioned to (if in "set" mode).
Another option that doesn't actually change the toggles is to simply animate based on the states of multiple parameters in order to account for edge cases of things that shouldn't be toggled together (say a specific hairstyle + a specific hat). Instead of forcing the toggle off, in some cases it may be better to retain the wearer's settings for both the hairstyle and hat in this example, and simply forcing the hairstyle to animate to a compatible hairstyle or shape with the hat, then once the hat has been disable or the hairstyle has been changed, it will animate back to normal.
I'm learning how to make toggles and I found a good video tutorial from a couple years ago but the issue is that it is pre- creator companion. where can find the fx slot in my avatar to put the animation controller into it?
the video information regarding the location of the FX controller slot is up to date, it should be in the same location as the tutorial

you should be able to click this button, the Customize option (1st pic), and it will expand to show all the playable layers you can drag your Animator Controllers too (2nd pic)
make sure you also have the VRC Avatar Descriptor, I know sometimes I forget to add it myself
can anyone help me out man, I removed "bandages" from my avatar fingers, then removed them from the action menu toggle, but now when I join the game the fingers are slim as hell like if u would to delete a shirt from hierarchy but still had the action menu option click it and then ur body goes slim
idk what elset to do, I removed it from te hierarchy and assets but my fingers are still fucked up ingame
it's still probably activating a blendshape that's shrinking the fingers, you'd have to remove those animations from the fx animator

look in the avatar descriptor for 'Playable Layers' and you can click on the FX slot to show where the FX animator controller is in the assets folder, then you'd have to open up an animator window to edit it

finding them in the animator would mean clicking through the layers and looking for something labeled rings, or anything related to a toggle you're not using and deleting it
it can be set up in a lot of different ways so it's hard to tell you exactly where
maybe if it is too difficult you can just remove it from the project and ignore the animators i guess, i'd just prefer to have cleaned up animators personally
