From what I have heard, if you make/get some sort of quick attach and detach mount for the Quest 3 and tracker then you could have it attched for the initial startup, turn off continous calibration and use the tracker for something else.

Although this is assuming your Quest actually likes tracking in your room, I can go days between recalibrating (virtual desktop), so only reason for me to use continous calibration is to skip the initial calibration I sometimes have to do.

While pancake lenses are nice, fresnel lenses, which the 3s are using are still fine, especially if you haven't gotten used to pancake lenses.

I think the only meh thing about the Quest 3s is that it lacks a headphone jack entirely, so you'd need to use a dongle and if you want to charge you'd need a hub.

The Quest 3S shouldn't have any such issues unless they changed things around for some reason.
The reason why the Quest 3 had popping, and why it had to be mitigated in software, is because the microphones are too close to your mouth, an issue from them shrinking the headset.

well while being sharp, these display lenses are so outdated it has screen door issues, and they are very senstive to scratches, but they look sharp, i can't really say more, i used both the index and quest 2, the lenses are good enough to use ^^ the price of the 3S makes it fair, but ones you used pancake lenses you cannot go back

Steam link actually works for me (though I've heard from many people who have had a terrible experience with it too) and it's free (as long as it actually works for you). the bobovr s3 pro is what meta should have done in the first place. i swear by it. i have the 2-battery + 3 charger as well, which gives me endless power. i highly recommend getting it if you are in vr for hours on end. plus the comfort and weight distribution is the best.

yes games go on sale. i have the meta subscription which gives you free games every month as long as you remember to redeem them while they are free. sometimes they suck, sometimes they are great. but it’s usually 3 - 4 titles per month.

also we have access to xbox cloud gaming with an xbox subscription. you need to pair an xbox controller to the headset. its basically an xbox with a movie theater size screen. games are really limited there though (or at least the ones i would play)

Head straps don't come with games, only headsets. The Q3 right now comes with the upcoming Batman game plus they lowered the price by $150. I figured I'd use the saved cash on the bobo headset, bobo case, and maybe a cheap-ish game like Contractors first since it has custom mod maps. I'll also get the Quest Game Optimizer since many people swear by it.

That is VRChat's solution to unoptimized avatars and is the default instead of grey robots, it is like a 3d preview of the avatar.

Not so much! Imposter's have been live for awhile now, and shortly after that, the vrc team was experimenting with auto generating imposters as well, so, if it's new to you, that's why you have them. Imposter's made for Android were also auto converted to ios as well in most cases.

According to previous dev diaries, when it comes to worlds, they have been able to faithfully port Android worlds to iOS using dev magic and new shaders. It hasn't been explicitly documented that this is occurring with avatars, but as we get closer to the full launch of iOS (it's still in closed beta), I'm sure we will see. However, I think it's safe to assume that this will be the case. There is an iOS option in the SDK.

There is supposed to be an automatic conversion when an IOS user tries to load Android content, it supposedly works well for Avatars, but worlds can look really off unless they were built using the mobile shaders VRChat provide.

I think VRChat recommends that you still upload an IOS version as it will work better regardless. Was mentioned somewhere that they are looking into automating it so when you upload for Android it will automatically upload for IOS as well.

For the past few days I keep getting repeated messages every 5-10 minutes “vrchat is not responding” or “vrchat has timed out your connection”. Now normally I get those messages every once in awhile but for the past few days I’ve been getting those messages non stop every 5-10 minutes.

the quests used completely different chip architecture than PC so they're always going to be separate

They can't, the thing you upload are Unity asset bundles, which are platform specific.
While you can force load asset bundles, like they are doing on IOS with Android content, you can't use the shaders from the asset bundle (On IOS they are replacing the shader when the avi loads in which only works because of limited selection of shaders), so even ignoring how Quest will never catch up to PC performance, you'd have PC content with broken shaders.

Okay that makes sense. So the best way to play PC maps/avatars on Quest would be a PCVR link. Personally I don't have a PC that can run VR... Maybe next year I'll upgrade so for now I'll stick to running VRChat in desktop mode on my laptop for those PC only worlds/avatars. Desktop mode still looks good and is perfectly usable since I've been playing like that since 2020 when I got a laptop with a 1650 in it. To be honest I only most worlds I join have quest compatibility except for maybe VKet summer/winter. What I've learned from playing desktop is a lot of worlds neglect desktop controls which gets annoying since when there are controls its has a learning curve.

Anyways I'm gonna order the Quest 3 Batman bundle next week, I already have some accessories coming on Monday like the BOBOVR S3 Pro head strap, some front cameras glass protectors, and a eye lenses cloth cover. Might get a face cover like the F3 Magnetic or AMVR (which is better with the BOBOVR S3?) and also a case but I'm not sure if I should splurge on the BOBOVR C3 case or keep looking, still need to buy a few games. usually to rank up you need to make friends and play more, kind of how story games work, the more you play the more progress you make

A couple of reasons this could happen:

• Cross-platform sync issues. For example, if the toggle or animation is only for PC, it would not show for Quest users.
• The PC and Quest versions of an avatar were not properly synced.
• The toggles and animations were set up to be local only.

and when i use the app, it says i have to "cast it" to the vr but the vr isnt connected to my internet

make sure your heasets fully turned off then hold the power and volume down buttons at the same time until you get the boot loading screen

you use the volume buttons to then scroll to factory reset and press your power button to select it

Hey all! I have a question. I'm not sure if this is the right channel but thought I'd try anyway.
I'm using quest 3 with the hand tracking feature through Virtual Desktop.
Is there a way to move around in game without having to pick up my controllers?
In the quest version of the game I know you can pinch your middle finger with your thumb and move that way, but it doesn't seem to work when emulating the vive controllers.
If there's no way to support it in game, is there an external software that can help? turn gestures into button clicks?

I don't remember if they changed it, but seems like they did, turn off emulated index controllers :P

Virtual Desktop made a change so hand tracking is separate from that toggle.
I am surprised that it doesn't work with index emulation though, although I only used it before the input 2.0 because I thought it looked a bit better, now after it, without index emulation and with gestures turned off you can get it looking better.

Also some accessories came in today. Interestingly I didn't know that camera glass protectors came with a cloth lens protector, still going to use the one I bought because it's much more padded and has microfiber cloth on one side to clean the lenses if needed.

The only others I know of are Tundra's multi dongles that they seem to have discontinued for reliability issues. The other one is a seller that sells bare circuit boards that that are for some reason more expensive.

I forget to what extent, but Tundra at least used to make the base light house tracking hardware, they are quite close to first party.

Your only first party option is buying Vive tracker dongle replacements, making sure to get the older one, as the new one only works with the "Vive ultimate trackers".

My quest 2 is stuck on the pairing screen after I just paired it to my phone.
Restarted the headset twice, and unpaired repaired my controllers.

Also my Left controller won't show up on the headset even tho it shows as paired on the app. (Started after factory resetting the headset)

You'd want to double check and make sure you signed into the same account as the one you purchased stuff on initially.

Yeah! I used the same facebook details, then I did have to make a new "profile", and I do have access to both of them - one shows up as a... Meta Horizon app icon, and the other as facebook, the one I used to use on Quest 2

So the headset should Definitely know I am the same person n stuff!

There is a difference between the two accounts. Since Facebook was no longer a requirement for logging in, at some point you should have been forced to migrate to a neta account in the past, 6 or so months. The easiest way to double check is to log into the meta website and look at your purchase history. You may have inadvertently made a duplicate account.

Is there anything you can buy or other ways to improve hand tracking with Quest 3 -> Virtual Desktop -> VRchat. It works ok just loses tracking if I get too close to myself sometimes. I saw you could maybe do controller and hand tracking at the same time? Or maybe quickly swap between?

Hybrid controller/ hand tracking is part of the Quest software, but not implemented in VD (AFAIK). It's all based on the quality of your lighting and the understanding of how VD uses the cameras on the front of the headset to track. You can set it up so hand tracking activates when you tap your controllers together, or set them down.
