is the quest 2 experience over steam link good?

my wifi is very good and my pc is hooked over ethernet but im skeptical when it comes to streaming

really would like to buy a quest 2 with them being so cheap now

The experience when streaming wirelessly is good enough, with a good setup (a perfect setup won't be much better), it is more than good enough for something like VRChat, can even be good enough for something like Beat Saber, unless you are really skilled.

Even if it is a bit worse than playing wired, the fact that you don't need to be connected to your PC makes it very nice.

Anyone have suggestions for comfortable headstraps and controller straps? I want to be able to drink/sleep comfortably. With the Quest 2 I was able to use the ring in the controller as an alternate grip to be able to drink something and have my hand track but the Quest 3 controllers don't have any type of extra hold like that. I guess this would only be a problem until the PCVR version of VRChat supports hand tracking from Quest

Also the default headstrap would be fine for sleeping I just find that it puts weird pressure on my forehead sometimes and I haven't been able to adjust it properly to fix that.

I’m only getting around 115 mpbs on the Quest 3

Hi chat! Lately I’ve been struggling with my vrchat controllers, as my hands/fingers don’t move or react. I’m not sure if my controllers are broken or not. For reference I use the quest 2, and sometimes my home button doesn’t fully work either. The only time I can move my fingers are in hand tracking, I can confirm it’s not a lighting issue, I really don’t want to buy new controllers and wanted to ask for help, if any at all

My arms also disconnect from my body from time to time and it’s hard to even move around

Hello, im looking for people that use Quest 3 with virtual desktop. ive noticed lots of improvment with hand tracking through Q3 > VD > VRC lately. and im curious if someone is able to use finger tracking with this specific setup cuz it seems to be a steam vr issue mostly now since finger tracking is perfect in my VD

Actual, proper, finger tracking doesn't really exist on PCVR, it is all different standards.

VRChat supports none of them.

Virtual Desktop didn't either until a few weeks ago, but that requires the program to use OpenXR and hand tracking in the first place, neither are supported by VRC on PC.

yeah, cuz on PC vrc I have hand tracking working now but no finger tracking just some gesture like close and open hands , pointing, stuff like that. but also its not consistant sometimes it catch my hands super fast and sometimes it doesnt

That is because Virtual Desktop isn't doing actual finger tracking, they are just mapping certain finger gestures to emulated touch controllers.

I haven't tried the new emulation (since before the most recent update you couldn't do any gestures), but because they had to reimplement it from scratch (Meta's fault) I could see it being less consistent than it was.

the actual VD finger tracking seems to be pretty perfect to me , I dont know how it works but it work

The finger tracking inside of the app, outside of PCVR streaming is just using the Meta hand tracking api, should be literally the same, only potential difference could be how VD has some stellar smoothing to its inputs.

If you want a pc and quest avatar you need to upload the pc version, then create a separate project for your quest compatible side then add the pc blueprint . I think you need gogo for both sides for it to work (then yet again I’m not sure)

there is the quest yes? that is an android device running an ANDROID SPECIFIC version of vrchat same as the mobile version you can get on your phone but slightly less limited
then you have pc aka steamvr where its a PC SPECIFIC version of vrchat
they are completely separate and you have to upload separately for both

This is not a hard concept. Gogo is an ASSET . It’s an add-on gogo IS NOT MANDATORY FOR EVERY AVATAR JUST BC A LOT OF THEM HAVE IT. It’s entirely up to the creator.

It's not just me but my friends having trouble too. Right thumb stick drift. Random tracking mishaps with weird wrist angles and arm lengths. You can have multiple accounts on a Quest, but only the one it was setup with can play videos (some videos work regardless, but aren't on youtube, twitch or other social media).

Don't think you can delete the main account, you should just be using it instead.

And also transfer over to using a proper VRChat account.

If you can delete it then I doubt it would make another account the main account, it would probably just make you resetup the Quest.

You can't, VRChat on PC doesn't support hand tracking and Virtual Desktop isn't sending actual hand tracking, it is just emulating controllers.

Virtual Desktop has quite recently gotten an option to send actual hand tracking data, but VRChat doesn't accept it so it doesn't matter (VRChat is also not using OpenXR, so there are technical problems as well).

I think this is the place to ask this question. LMK if it isn't pls. I am finally planning to get an oculus/meta quest 2 but I live in South America so it's a bit tricky.
My country will charge me with a fee of 110% if I buy anything from another country with a local payment method. Luckily enough I have some money on paypal so I can use that and bypass that fee, but this means I can only use paypal.

Ebay will let me use paypal, but the prices I see there are way higher than in Amazon, but Amazon won't let me use paypal unless I have a paypal debit card, which I can't have because paypal doesn't cover that service in my country, so I guess I can't use Amazon. You need to hide avatars, be in a world that takes up less RAM (no way to directly know, but look at the download size).
You can also choose to use an avatar that has less "texture memory" usage.

When your RAM is full, VRChat won't load any more avatars because otherwise you would crash. Quest 2 only has 6GB of RAM which by today's standards isn't a lot.

I'm on Quest 3, which has 8GB RAM. Even in very crowded instances I can show everyone's avatars without seeing "Too Many Avatars" ever. The two gigabytes of extra RAM makes a huge difference here.

It is just guesswork, but we know they regret being so open with Quest content, Meta could rightfully kick them off the store for performance reasons.

But, I doubt they would just remove it, there would be a lot of backlash.

If I was them though then I'd set a lofty hard cap for very poor on Quest and after one or two new Quests the avatars at that hard cap could be seen as more reasonable.

Very poor avatars are a problem on Quest (now called the android platform), they can't just ignore it.

The Quest does to my knowledge not download or do really anything when you are playing a game in it (which Virtual Desktop counts as).

With Airlink/Link even less stuff is running in the background.

Automatically generating Imposters and completely removing the Fallback system could alleviate this problem somewhat, as it would allow users to at least get an idea of what the actual avatar a user is wearing looks like without having to view it manually. Users would no longer be constantly forced to display Very Poor avatars, which would improve performance, and would also benefit content creators who want to make their avatars available on Quest but are not interested in optimization.

I can't imagine Very Poor being completely removed on Quest/PICO devices.

I don't like the idea of removing the fallback system, custom fallbacks are nice, they are a niche feature, but great when they are used correctly.

VRChat just needs to allow fallbacks to be any ol public avatars, that fits the parameters and it would get further use.

some people can apparently sleep with a vr headset on their head, and there's dedicated worlds for it. I have seen people in publics who were unresponsive enough for me to assume they fell asleep, if I realise that's happened I just stop interacting with that person (because they're asleep, it'd be weird if i didn't stop)

I've had mic issues happen when I let the quest enter sleep mode. If you need to take your headset off, I'd recommend putting something over your proximity sensor (it should be between the lenses, it'll have a number below it) and making sure it's keeping your quest awake. That and go into your oculus/meta menu to trigger afk detection

right now, impostors are too distracting for me to really see them as a good thing. the concept is great, but the early ps1 stylisation doesn't work when you're representing someone. i've always stood by the belief that the polygon snapping needs to go. it's just too distracting on a VRChat avatar to really be worth using atm.

once they become less blurry and the polygon snapping is fixed/removed, impostors will be so much better imo

And they aren't going to get much, if at all, less blurry, they are created in shader so use more textures than you would think and they are a performance feature.

as the avatars already look to be stylised somewhat, i reasonably assume that the polygon snapping is an effect added

which what you are seeing isnt actually polygon snapping but instead camera angles of the scan

The imposters are created by taking photos of the avatar from different angles (in this case, it is done to each limb) and then what looks like polygons is recreated using a shader.

To keep the texture usage down I heavily assume they have gone for taking fewer angles. If they were using the traditional imposter technique then this would mean that the avatars would be smeared (they'd break down visually from various angles) instead of snapping.

So as far as I understand it is a reasonable tradeoff.

And I don't get what you mean that they are stylized though, they are just a blocky imposter of your avatar, they can have various styles.

I quit using oculus for a while because it was bugging out on me and I couldn’t airlink, however both controllers worked with mega drifted, they suffered a bit of damage from being dropped after I quit using for a while but no scratches, no cracks no nothing. My controllers wont turn on anymore and if my left one does it disconnects and reconnects

Nearly any issue with the Quest 3 regarding Battery / Power is using the incorrect types (Not 9V 2A ones) or incompatible cables.
" " "normal" " " 5V ones will not keep it charged, or may generally not work correctly at all.
