It’s due to the Quest running out of RAM, as it doesn’t have much. Just use stricter safety settings when in public instances

If you do get the Rift S, make sure you have a VR capable PC. Unlike the Quests, the Rift isn’t a stand-alone headset, it must be connected to a PC to do anything. So you need a computer that can do the heavy lifting

YMMV. I have the quest 2 and the elite strap with battery. Balance and weight are good for me. I generally don't feel too much neck pressure, so it's really up yo your comfort level. You can always just take advantage of Amazon return policy if it's too heavy.

When I had major problems I did a factory reset and it fixed my issues. Having too many cached guardians gave me issues, so cleaning everything out did the trick.

try cleaning the camera stuff or if your storage is super full try uninstalling games you don't use or delete files. The problem could be different with yours but I tried everything and the only thing that worked for me was to factory reset

i play linked to my pc through wifi. Is there a way to set the quest 2 thumbsticks to activate the gestures only when pressing down the thumbstick like a button? The slightest touch or when moving is setting off the gesture and a lot of pc avatars have a animation or sounds set to that gesture. i want to use the gesture/animation I just dont want to blast a potentially world breaking laser beam or ear blasting sound every time I try to move. I cannot find a way to do it in either the in game control options or any customer player steam controls

yeah with quest 2 being the most used out of all vr headsets even linked in steam I am surprised on how little info there is or complaints on this in any forum. Was never an issue on my old WMR headset as it had a button hat with 8 touch and 8 physical presses that could be individually changed in steam controls.

It's beatup but about to go back to my old HP because of the gestures alone on Quest 2. A lot of avatars i find are setting off all kinds of animations every time I try to move or just graze the thumbstick. Only other option i have found in quest is to turn gestures off completely which sucks

It is highly annoying that there is no way to disable the fx layer, which is where these things should be.
But the practise of doing this is mostly relegated to SDK2 avatars where it was necessary.

Competently made SDK3 avatars nowadays shouldn't be relying on this, since we have the radial menu/action menu.
And for things like facial animations (or any other gesture based thing), while I haven't seen it done, it would be very easy to add a toggle for if those should run or not.

yup did that on my own nanachi avatars in sdk3 and made sure not to set anything to that thumbstick gesture and most animations are on radial dials. but i do like to pick up a few avatars here and there in worlds i visit and many are poorly set up for quest controllers which is weird as quest is the most used headset and has been for a while, even in pc linked mode. oh well guess i live with it =/

I have had my old quest 2 for 2 years and my replacement Quest 2 for a few months and the only crashing problems I had was joining a content creator friend of mine

He made his own world and does skits on it but I crash after joining because of so many people trying to join. That's the only instance of crashing I experience other than someone having a crasher avai so it might be a quest problem

Nah idk how thats possible quest 2 is good but not that good vrchat is heavy, I have a rtx 3060 and a $1000 motherboard playing on the pimax 5k super (I swear I'm not trying to brag) and I still get lag and occasional crashes, usually crashes only caused by other players who somehow got past the anti-cheat

My original quest 2 I got for Christmas 2 years lasted until the charging port broke that was it, just the port but my warranty expired but luckily Meta made an exception for me and sent me a replacement Quest 2 free of charge

Even though the quest 2's are made little more on the cheaper side they still are very durable

Newer Unity versions render things a bit differently, so all content with custom shaders uploaded before the OSC update last spring will have their shaders broken. Things using standard and maybe the most popular shaders might be salvageable, but anything else is highly unlikely.

It depends upon the services that the other apps use. And it is possible that an exception is being thrown on your headset and VRChat fails to catch it. Yes that would be a software bug but they would need something that indicates where it is and under what circumstances.

I don't know how to access the logs I just searched. You can ask at the Meta support or search around for someone who knows.

Ok I can't be of any real help I'm just explaining (from the perspective of 40 years development experience) that lots of things can cause software to crash. If I had 1000 customers who didn't and 5 that did I would suspect the problem is primarily in their equipment. Could be wrong but guessing what caused it wouldn't get me anywhere.

Definitely a possibility. Could be that VRChat is using a lot of RAM so it crashes as it gets the bad chip. In a computer you could run a RAM test. Meta could do it but you would have to send it in for servicing.

They might even exchange it if they determine their hardware failed.

They exchanged 2 of my controllers.

They could BTW have been failing for other reasons. The symptoms are the same, the cause may be different.

OK, thanks for telling me that because I have done not really a diagnostic but I use the meta developer, and like seeing how much each app used off of the ram and VR chat were using a lot more than I think it should’ve because it was like 100 MB free and it spikes a lot and I’ve seen that the game has crashed if it gets below 80

Some of the software (and I'm not excusing VR Chat) is library code. It could be a bug in a service they use or as someone pointed out maybe the Quest OS has a bug and VR Chat an a few others use that method). There is no telling without a log.

to answer this for you, PC and Quest avatars and worlds are technically two totally sperate things. This means that if an avatar creator wants to make a cross platform avatar, they need to make a PC version and then also make a Quest version. Many of the parts can be the same, but there are a lot more restrictions and tighter performance rankings on Quest content because it is running on a phone processor, but this means that PC and Quest content can be totally different. For Quest users, that fish either has no physbones making it a static fish prop, or the fish doesn't exist at all for Quest users

You don’t really need a good computer, you just need a barely passable computer, a good deal of patience, and the willingness to take a stab at learning a whole new range of skills.

You can do it yourself, but you need to be willing to put in the effort required. Also that patience both applies to your computer taking a good while to load unity and with yourself for not understanding stuff instantly cause it’s hard.

Tho honestly go for it. Worst case scenario, you learn you really don’t want anything to do with 3D art. But on the other hand, maybe you find you oddly like it and suddenly have a whole new passion to pursue!

As long as you have some kind of device for the processing and something with a camera, you could even use a raspberry pi with a webcam and some software. You just need to be on the same network and connected through OSC

Though the biggest problem is space, you need a lot of space in order for it to work, if the webcam can only see half of your body, then it won't work, it needs to always see your full body

When I used my Quest 2 as a standalone for VRCHAT everyone was pretty loud, no troubles.

I used virtual desktop yesterday and launched VRCHAT and I could barely hear anyone. I checked my volume, it was max?

I saw some Quest 2 ear buds for $80, are those a must have?

about earbuds on quest: just get a half decent set of wired buds if you need them. personally, onn is a good brand for cheap buds. for bluetooth, first off it wont even accept connections to most bluetooth buds, except airpods of course. even then theres a .5-1 second delay in audio because the bluetooth chipset in the headset is pretty slow- but that doesnt affect wired earbuds at all

Any advice on how to make airlink from quest work well? I have 72-73 fps in VRChat but the picture is blurry and the game is laggy. I have computer connected to router with cable and only computer and quest 2 connected to 5ghz network. What else can you do?

sounds like network isnt an issue, you just overestimated how strong your pc was. try tweaking your visual settings in game and seeing if that helps

the name of the other ones dont matter, they have most likely been changed manually

when you run out of vrc+ you lose access to all except the first list, and you can move avatars from other lists into the first one if you dont have vrc+ you just have to make room for the avatar

A Rift CV1 looks terrible resolution wise compared to a Quest 2.

I have a 1050 gpu i5 4th gen cpu 8gb of DDR4 ram

The 1050 is below minimum spec for the Rift CV1, which was released in 2016.
The 4th i5 would be slow, but would handle a instance that is lightly populated.
VR almost requires 16GB of RAM, VRChat requires at least 16GB.

@sand fossil You could get by sometimes however, but it would run at an fps worse than VRChat normally runs.
But could also be better than the standalone Quest experience.

If you want a VR headset then the Q2 would be the best, worst case standalone VRChat would "run".

VRChat is primarily CPU bound, but you still need a good enough card to become CPU bound, a 3060 12GB is a good card to drive a Quest 2, it is also the minimum I'd recommend, you might be able to go lower but you need to ask people doing that yourself.
