The reason they don't allow it is because of how unperformant it is on mobile platforms.

And that is technically an exploit, which can get you banned.

And I'm pretty sure the client reverts it anyway.

Standard Shader you mean? Standard is not Quest. Check VRChat Mobile in your shader list. Standard-lite works. Most mobile work.

No. Transparency is not permitted on quest avatars

Edit your model to create any edges that are needed instead of relying on texture transparency

Regarding Quest models, does the 3.0 SDK work for them? Such as toggles? I would assume yes, but as with Quest models being limited, there wouldn't be much you can do with it???? I don't know.

3.0 works completely with Quest completely. But the SDK does count everything as though it's enabled, so if you have 50 toggles for 50 separate objects, it will still count you as having 50 mesh renderers, even if they are all disabled most of the time.

In this case the texture was a text on a plane and i wanted the background to be transparent. It would be a lot more geometry to add a physical text instead of a board with transparency. I ended up setting the shader to additive particle

I'd be surprised if you managed to get additive working in-game. While whitelisted for worlds, it is meant to be stripped out on avatars.

If you did somehow manage to sneak it in, I recommend not being suprised if it suddenly stops working in the future. It is not meant to work by policy

According to the documentation transparency of any kind isn’t supported on quest avatars. Those shaders exist for the benifit of quest worlds.

Indeed I do! Those models are made by Jacob Orvick and they are not avatars. They are 3D models he made for his own portfolio and they do not exist anywhere except as renders.

You might be able to find someone else who made those characters though, but not that model specifically

You likely heard wrong.
They aren't adding them because running audio sources is really bad for performance on Quest, each person is an audio source, and the Quest 1 dies at 12 people, 2 at 24.

So I’m having an issue with avatars where when I first got the game a few days ago I first favorited 2 avatars and later came back and unfavorited them and favorited another but then after a few minutes I changed characters and tried to change back to the character I just favorited and it wasn’t there but to my surprise the other 2 that I initially favorited were there, I’ve tried favoriting other characters but only 3 actually show up after I hit expand and when I do the first 2 that I initially favorited are gone this is a pretty confusing bug to me and so if anyone has a solution that’d be much appreciated

I would guess it's literally not attatched to the point that the shirt is clipping through the body. If the body mesh and the shirt mesh were connected right, I'd imagine the shirt would deform as the body moves and bends instead of ghosting through the body.

My avatar has many colors, so I tried atlas texture to combine into fewer material slots. However, these are colors that I want to glow/emit. There are 8 different colors I want to make emit. I also want it to be quest compatible. (the PC part works fine).
Is it possible to make an atlas texture emit? I couldn't figure out how to make an atlas glow, or which shader allows emission for quest.

They are no longer working, even with the Quest version of the shader

if you're wondering why it happened the standard Shader does not support vertex colors but the mobile does support vertex colors

and would that be more performant

potentially if you were making a like solid color or gradient color Avatar but no not really if you were trying to replicate a texture because the amount of extra geometry you need to hold that texture information would be worse than just the texture

and even the gradient would probably be better on a texture as it gives you a bit more control

vertex color still get used in modern games just controlling like material blending

and also they like first came out in the 90s vertex colors where your video memory was a lot more limited compared to now

or potentially quite handy if you're a level designer are you need to have lots of different colored stuff using the same grayscale textures on a mobile platform

None, you have to use geometry particles

you can if you use what’s called ”clearcoat” but that seems to only be a feature for pc shaders. i guess the best choice is to use standard lite and put metallic up to 7.5 and smoothness to 7.5 aswell, or just mess around with the numbers

You are gonna import your prompts into blender BEFOREhand and then use magic to make all the props 1 mesh, have it all be one texture, and then use bones that have weightpainted to each prop to toggle them (by scaling them super small for off)

the latter works best for stuff thats on your head, for example.
