I am still not happy how much avatar creators are done wrong with "quest" avatars. Big middle finger actually due lazy work on many "quest" avatars.

Around 80% of quest avatar are just lazy copy from pc avatar. Really lazy and stupid idea.

Maybe 90% even....

Quest side is still done very bad for most part.

I even found 500,000 poly quest avatars. This explains enough how dumb some creators are.

does anyone know the potential reasons for why an avatar would be black on quest? its only on 1 avatar of mine, it uses both matcap lit and toon lit, its not vertex colors, no other shaders work, ive tried switching from pc to android and reuploading multiple times now. i even found that autofix didnt remove all the shader keywords left over from the pc version so i deleted those too and still nothing. it looks totally normal in unity. its a vcc project so totally up to date. im completely at a loss.

you all have to use the VRC mobile shaders to upload the Avatar to Quest and it's highly likely the Avatar would be very poor on Quest

I found this on a world, but like most other avatars on quest, it’s horribly optimized at very poor. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong places, I didn’t start playing that long ago, but I’d like for most people to be able to see me, so does anyone know of anything that’s similar enough and not as badly optimized? It's basically telling you that the person used all the polygons to make that avatar. (The more polygons, the greater detail)

the game runs in unity, so your only option is gonna be unity to develop avatars and worlds. If you want an easier setup, VRChat has a creator companion that will manage unity and the SDKs for you. While you cannot use any other game engine other than unity to actually setup and make the avatar, when it comes to the mesh and textures and all the assets of the avatar you can use any programs you would like. You just assemble, do the technical stuff, and upload the avatar inside unity

Depending on your pc and project size usually from less than a minute to couple minutes.

When it's done you need to upload your model with the same ID as the pc one for it to become cross compatible

If you can’t see the parts that move then the avatar is not optimized enough. If they are optimized well (medium performance rank or better) then physbones will show by default on quest

Hi! Anyone has any idea why my quest avatar (which does send fine, and looks fine in the preview window in the UI) has some materials that just appears pink in game?

I know that in Unity, pink material = Shader wasn't found or didn't load properly.
But how the frick could this happen on one of the quest default mobile shaders?

Are there any quest shaders, components or game objects that prevent complete culling that don't require a material slot?
I have 4/4 material slots (quest poor performance rank) and I need to be able to disable my main body mesh for invisibility, but without leaving something invisible behind, it just permanently disables my mesh and never re-enabled for people, because all of my bounding boxes have been disabled, and the game doesn't know that I'm supposed to be back in frame. Adding a cube with the one material removed still counts as a material slot in the vrchat performance rank thing

Recently uploaded tutorials on youtube (more than 6 months and they would be showing off outdated things) will give you a better picture but,

You just do the same thing you do to upload PC stuff, but instead you upload it for Quest (is a button in the SDK that swaps it, assuming you installed android build support for Unity)

Getting the PC version and Quest version be the same avatar is as simple as using the same blueprint ID. After uploading once, then a blueprint ID will be attached to a component below the avatar descriptor, copying that ID and attaching it to the Quest version's pipeline manager makes the versions "linked".

You're getting 60fps because your headset can't hit 120fps and thus the Quest's frame interpolation "Asynchronous SpaceWarp" turns on, immediately limiting you to half the frame rate.

Your best option depends on what uncapped frame rate you'd be able to get. If >=90, then setting the headset to 90fps will get you 90fps. If <90, then setting the headset to 90fps will get you 45fps because ASW kicks in.

Most likely the majority of your size comes from textures. Downscale, crunch compress, or otherwise reduce the file size of your textures.

Avatar audio is never supposed to exist on Quest so people were exploiting modified sdks which are against terms of service to upload audio on avatars on Quest

so they fixed the bug that allowed the modded sdks to upload the avatars so no more Avatar audio on Quest

wait? so what your saying is avatars on quest cant play sound at all? i'm kinda confused because i had avatars on my oculus rift in the past before it broke and they played sound just fine but when i transitioned to the quest there was no sound playing on some of my avatars and at first i thought the avatars i was using was bugged the tiktok kon i had before was one of the few examples like in the rift version i could use a phone, play music, and make the entire screen flash different colors, and have dancing animations that play the corresponding music but in the quest none of that works anymore. the dancing animations still work but no sound plays

When you upload an avatar, it is either uploaded for PC or for Quest. To upload for both you'd have to upload twice, switching between versions. PC users can only see the PC version (if it exists) and Quest users can only see the Quest version (if it exists). It sounds like you're uploading it so that Quest users can see it, but since you're on PC you can't see the Quest version.

when i click it anyway, it asks me to locate or install an editor
so i click locate and click the application i downloaded from the vr chat doc but it says its invalid

when i click install editor it gives me options for 2020, 2021 and 2022 but the one i downloaded from the vrchat doc was the 2019 version so i dont think any of them will work

It's literally in the mobile shaders folder, and is the default particle system shader in the SDK.

Hello, I’ve been driving myself crazy trying to figure this out. My friend made a model for me. It’s quest compatible, and on pc it looks fine. But on quest it is completely black.

I added a particle effect to an avatar using the VRCHAT/mobile/Particles/Additive — On PC it looks great! On quest its pitch black squares with RGB squares on the outer edges...

It's using the unity_builtin_extra 64x64 Default-ParticleSystem texture, as well.

It honestly looks as if its not loading the texture at all, nor applying the colors correctly. So instead of a rainbow gradient over lifetime, and the nice soft orb look with a bright center, its just layering dark squares to the point of darkness.

The only way to kinda test things is either via unity Lyuma tools and or upload your quest version on PC build and test but still you feel uncertain if things worked or not.
I'm not sure what will happen if things diverge a lot but I feel it would be just that things don't make sense for POV of quest vs PC users in some cases etc....

That specific error doesn't matter, since it's basically "I failed to build avatar because of previous errors". Clear your console, try build and publish and then fix first error that appears on top of console.
