Also really cool experience I thought I'd share, I do lots of research on neural stimulation and perception and VR immersion and met a guy earlier who had his sense of balance lost from an ear infection and I realized that I have enough knowledge now that if he wanted I could make him a very primitive prosthesis to allow him to tell if he was leaning or being pushed

A lot of my research has shown me how much the brain adapts and it always amazes me. For example with cochlear implants (from what I understand) it only gives like an artificial hearing (let's people distinguish high tones and low tones) but yet that's enough information that the brain can adapt to combine it with lip reading and essentially be able to hear speech again
Or there's this eye implant for blind people, it only allows them to see contrast so basically they see where areas are lighter and darker, yet the brain adapts to use that to be able to very effectively navigate the world
Most of my research is around VR immersion but it's cool to know I might actually make someone's life a little better at some point

I had a project I was working on during the pandemic but had to abandon, but it was basically chat roulette for nursing homes.
