i wish that we will have ability to search (in vrchat)
for a worlds at the past date
is there any updates on when items are going to enter their UGC phase i want to make keycards that work across my worlds for opening doors etc
From what VRChat staff have said so far, there’s still no confirmed timeline for full UGC Items yet. They’ve hinted that if Items ever become UGC, it’ll probably be rolled out slowly in phases after they finish building out Avatar Accessories first.
Honestly though, cross-world functional items like keycards would be insanely useful. Being able to carry progression items between worlds and use them for things like doors, quests, or hubs feels like the natural direction for the system. VRChat already seems to be experimenting with cross-world persistence internally, so hopefully creator-made Items are part of that long-term plan.
They haven't posted the Dev stream Q&A summary yet for this week and I don't want to have to scroll through the exact thing they said.
But they said something along the lines of that they don't currently intend for items to be a free for all like avatars and worlds are, which I take as them planning to have some kind of vetting, whatever that might entail.
If they plan for UGC items to always show like items currently do then that makes sense. Tying them to your avatar's performance stats does not really work, it works for accessories as those are attached to your avatar, but items could be far away from you and needing to find who to show for an item to show would be frustrating.
Items are world items and I get where your coming from but they could easily make a perf rank system for items plus we already have somewhat heavy items that have rolled out like the rabbids shopping cart so I imagine that will probably be the baseline perf rank limit
Items are basicly world items you could easily use world colliders to tie them into things like udon scripts for keys door card readers etc
As for locking them behind a paywall like vrc+ I'm fine with that as long as I can make them public and use pedastals and drops and it follows the same thing as verification where they don't go away after it expires
I don't think it would be easy to make a perf rank system, you can have multiple items out and manually enabling and disabling them isn't as easy as an avatar because of their small collider size.
Hm.. large items would block your ability to select things
We already have a metric for item size vrc would just have to heavily restrict items and don't allow anything past the limit to be uploaded
Items too large aren't a problem because you are inside the collider, it is items between that and larger than an avatar.
Which we already have, the tree (not sure how large its collider is though, I haven't checked.)
Yea that tree never should have been released items were supposed to be items not vegetation, we don't need bushes grass and rocks to be added as items those are supposed to be in the world itself..... Tho maybe grass players may get a kick out of touching grass
I think the tree is fine, but it shows the problems VRC have to deal with.
I would like to eventually upload a little themed tent as an item, because that would be neat to be able to bring around.

Chat boxes were also said to "never ever gonna happen" by the VRChat team, so I wouldn't completely rule it out.
