I only play VRChat on PC though. Since other games are really unplayable as @ruby needle already said lol. Well at least the most ones. Only game i know which still works pretty good in VR even on my PC is Job Simulator. But it doesn't have high graphics.

Decimating a 70K poly avatar down to <7500 is hard enough, maintaining any of the shape keys is borderline impossible. I think it's slightly more than a 10 minute task. 😛

And... even with slightly broken shapekeys i'd still call it better then no quest version.

you could even remove all of them... since the default robot doesn't have any mouth animation you might not improve it in that regard, but also not worsen anything.

(This would allow you to remove the inside mouth part aswell and heavily decimate the mouth portion as it doesn't have to move anymore)

Not that this should be the target / goal tho.

Retro requires decent blender skill. I've decimated mine down for Quest but it took literally hours of fighting Blender, losing all shapekeys and then having to use flappy jaw.

Im not a Blender 2.81 user but i head a lot of good thigns about the new CATS Bake function.

But even with normal decimation my quick 10k poly conversion i did with 2.79b was still a reasonablish enough model to use.

Remove all hidden body meshes / things unneeded. (like the back of the head which is covered by hair anyway.)

And then hit it.

Wont be perfect, but million times better then... default robot.

(And with blender 2.81+ the bake is probably gonna be massively better in quality on quick stuff)

Shapekeys, or blendshapes as they're sometimes called are used to deform objects. For VRchat they're typically used for making your mouth move when you speak

Baking a good low poly can be painful though. I had to do some stuff to my materials atlas to get decent looking textures.

But I do agree with the overall trend of super optimized avatars. If it's a custom work it's really nice to have the security of not using the high poly versions.

That said, you can use TrinusPSVR or iVRy to play it on PC using a PSVR headset, but your computer needs to be VR capable

So many things can cause a crash. VRC is buggy and unstable because it's user created content. The servers are also experiencing huge growth. VRC doubled in size basically overnight. Serving a regular title is easy but VRC is Petabytes(1000 terabytes) of content. That's rough on the game.

No but they dont need to as even if an avatar 'includes' a virus (what isnt really a thing).
You only load it, you dont start the 'virus' then. So it isnt able to harm your pc.

There aren't any viruses. The 'hacks' are just plain old particles and effects. If you turn off avatars with performance settings, you won't crash nearly as often, like 90% of the crashes are caused by shaders/particles. Outside of that, there are a few problem users that modify the game, it's very hard(impossible) to detect the way their game is modified, until they use it for malicious reasons.

there is a bug that effects deleted avatars that sometimes makes it hard to remove. No known solution, other than it comes and goes so after an update, you should try again. You have 15 other slots.

No. PC avatars are not compatible with quest. Quest runs on android, PC on windows. If you open the quick menu (where you can press avatars, social, emotes, etc) you should also see an icon on the bottom right of the nameplate where it shows what platform a player is in. If there's a player with a green quest icon on the bottom right of the nameplate, you can click on them with the laser pointer and press show avatar. But other than that, you'll have to play with robots

If you have a sufficiently powerful computer, you could get a Link Cable (or clone), which will essentially make your quest a PCVR headset, letting you see PC avatars

The computer'd have to be VR capable though, and the wire is a dealbreaker for some
