Lighthouses, while the most expensive solution, also happen to be the best setup for small spaces. Kinect requires a much bigger space just due to how far away you have to stand from it to be in frame.

As long as you can mount the lighthouses near your ceiling, and can do two corners, they can be as close as 3 meters diagonally and still work well.

I've got a small space, and my sofa hides my feet if I stand near it, and yeah, it does become a problem when I face away from the good sensor, but, on the whole, it works well when facing the good base station

In user-generated content things it's pretty easy to forceably crash other people out. It's just one of the downsides of having absolute creative freedom. Can't really be stopped, but it can be avoided, you get a feel for which crowds are typically likely to do that kind of thing. Just stay away from them.

If you intend to play it on a computer you want to make sure you have the type of port for the headset. Index needs display port. Rift S needs HDMI. Quest 2 needs USB-C

And USB-C is not normal USB so make sure you have one lol

The usb c end goes into the quest 2. You use a normal USB port on your computer (preferably 3.0)

@potent blaze ideally on the GPU card, yes. But a motherboard or USB card would also work. You can also just use an adapter to use a regular USB port but typically that will not charge the headset fast enough to play indefinitely which means it’ll go dead pretty fast.

I took a break from vrchat, and now whenever i calibrate the model is locked to my head, leading to worse calibration, i liked the old way where the model would be stationary and i could get everything in the perfect position, is there a way to change it back?

USB-C (as well as DVI) on Nvidia GPU’s has actually been discontinued as of 2020. Now they only offer HDMI and DisplayPort

The USB-C port was just the displayport protocol anyway.

And the DVI port was just HDMI over DVI (which included audio over DVI, somehow)

So there’s not really any loss of functionality

@languid beacon virtuallink was a 4-lane displayport and USB 3.1 gen 2 phy. Going to the normal DP alt-mode of a 4-lane DP and USB 2.0 is definitely a loss of functionality. Only the xtal 8k actually utilized it though. Sad to see a cool port go, but it doesn't effect practically anyone so meh.

I was trying to join my friend in VRChat earlier, and once I joined I realized my right controller wasn't working. I'm using the Quest 1 with Link. Any answers to what might be happening? The controller worked as it should, outside of VRChat.

I guess it depends on the tasks and wether or not you make use of the advances instructions to speed up things.
ARM is unbeatable withing it's realm in terms of efficieny, and it also has some really nice things from the get go especially for mobile devices.
Things like the low power cores are something that would be awesome on desktops too, if you have a beast rig but just watch netflix half a day.

@ruby needle You're making a common mistake in regards to RISC vs CISC. Modern x86 is no longer a CISC CPU. It's a RISC CPU with a CISC frontend. The advanced instructions no longer provide an appreciable improvement to performance, it only reduces the cache space usage (and technically a very minute performance bump due to less time to copy instructions into cache) due to increased instruction density.

Other architectural differences enable x86 to have such great peak performance. I don't think arm is gonna pass them any time soon in desktops nor would they even care to try I think

Ehh. Modern processors combine elements from both RISC and CISC. They have pipelining but also a more complex instruction set -- which is the core difference between those names. Thus I'd say technically they all qualify more as CISC than RISC
