@wide tundra I have no idea why this fixes the problem, but I have found that unplugging my router power and restarting the computer and then plug in the router in after the computer has restarted fixes it and let me connect to VRChat. I think something gets cached wrong and this fixes it

While it is indeed possible for modified clients to trick your client into changing to a different avatar, they can't just manipulate your client code.
Could possibly be a screen space shader on that avatar that renders something on everyone's screen, but why would you not immediately switch out of the malicious avatar?

most games (including vrchat) have steam control bindings for the game. For example, "jump" and "gesture toggle" and "quickmenu" are all defined by vrchat itself as actions.
so you can make something on the controller one of those things. You can also simulate keypresses with chords, which is handy.

here's how to enable VRSS for VRChat if you have a nvidia RTX card: https://uploadvr.com/how-to-enable-nvidia-vrss/ it will probably improve your performance a lot, or at least making having sharp visuals nbd without tanking performance due to SS.
VRSS is automatically applied to a game where you are using MSAA, and it's a bit technical but vrchat usually "always uses" msaa. Because of the lens predistortion filter, and the way VRSS changes the image in a spiral pattern, if you're going for performance most of all, try setting your steamvr supersampling to 1.0-1.4 instead of adaptive since VRSS works passively on spare frametime.

print out some black and white tracking glyphs
you don't need a lot of them at all, just a few. Just some simple, high contrast, easy to identify pages. Put one up high, one up low, and on blank walls. Make them artistic if you want. They should all be different enough that you couldn't confuse the algorithm.

I've done some development using the WMR sdk, they put SO much work into it
also make sure you're using 1.5v batteries and if your headset doesn't have a bluetooth built in, make sure your bluetooth dongle is line of sight to your placespace. Turning off 2.4ghz wireless and only using 5ghz helps a ton too
all of that will get better in gen 2
but yeah, wmr is super underrated!
the supersampling algo is second to none too
plus like, the samsung od+ has one of the best screens next to the index, and it's like 250$! o.o

imo wmr just feels cheap. The controllers feel like really cheap plastic (compared to the vive wands) and also the fact that there is no built in audio (not even a mic). I know that the built in audio issue is resolved on the odyssey and odyssey+, but theyre not even available outside of the USA

I was able to get mine to continually track over about 100 meters, with someone carrying my laptop and making sure I didn't bump into anything.

So I have Oculus Touch controllers, but in SteamVR, Oculus Teach legacy bindings doesn't have Gesture toggle as an Boolean action. Unless I am actually expected to select Index controller as my controller in bindings for VRChat.

Don't assume it'll work either. Before VRC added basic index controller support I tried using SteamVR to tell VRC I was using Oculus Touch controllers and send those inputs and it told me to get fucked because it was detecting input type by which HMD was being used.

Any overlay app (like openvrinputemulator) that provides an action set priority between the min and max values above will override scene app actions bound to the same inputs. This is currently button-by-button, but there's some talk of making it apply to the whole controller according to joe. This will prevent the app from getting input, but if there's a will there's a way. I'll dig into this a bit and see if I can make it possible
according to the blog post from may 31st, the gesture toggle system was intended to be possible for all controllers at some point, but the current input documentation doesn't illuminate that. When I'm more free, I'll see what I can dig up

as long as you stay in 2d world you'll be fine with all the entry laptops
slight 3d wont be unsuable either, only if you gonna do actual 3d work or rendering / movie cutting you want to spec up

Yeah if youre willing to spend 2grand you can just build a vr box for 1k, laptop for 300-500, rift s for 400usd

your lenses can rub up against the lenses and scratch them. Mine have never scratched so it depends on the glasses

the only headsets that are not reccomended with glasses are the pimax headsets but those are too expensive anyways

Popular or unpopular opinion, i think that VRChat should remove the colours for the different ranks and still have the Safety and ranks
Just make it people cant see, I find myself, aswell as others judging people faster the lower the rank they are

I feel like I’m the only one who thinks that the excellent status limits are very easy to meet. I’ve never uploaded anything past worse than ‘good’ and that’s only because they broke props on walk overrides so I needed to drop some mesh particles on movement.
