You upload two versions of the same model. One lower quality "quest" version and your main one. Quest users see one, PC see the other.

A Majority of PC users don't bother making a Quest version of their model because it's more work, they'll never even get to "experience" it, and they'll rarely, if ever, even know if another use is experiencing it because I don't think most PC users are ever in Quest-Compatible worlds

I didn't bother making my player model PC/Q compatible because I was only going to be the one using it. But one thing I have noticed about quest models, is that all of them can be seen by everyone. I'm sure soon enough when you upload an avatar to vrchat there may be a part of the ask that allows you easy access to quest compat

As of right, now, there's PEAK time, there's less than 600 players total in Quest compatible worlds. Not Quest players, total players. It stands to argue that, at peak hours, less than 5% of the entire playerbase is even in Quest compatible worlds, and I'm willing to bet an even smaller percent of those users are quest users or in quest compatible avatars

there is also nolovr but the hip tracker is supposed to be for the head and has a cable so you will have an extra cable running to your pc. I think they announced to release a fbt kit where it just has 3 controllers instead of 2 + 1 head tracker but yeah. Nolo is as close to vive fbt as you can go

@crystal fossil ram limit can be done PC side, no need for an unknown client, the particle stuff is exactly what vrchat now has as an option (still not by default in-game what is dumb), anti avatar stealing is an avatar thing that kinda bricked the avatar but that worked limited time sadly, shader crashing is rare now as barely anyone has them whitelisted anyway.

Won't hear me deny that 2 years ago that stuff was totally needed and was not an option I game at all. But most are now beside the ram but that's also I. Part because of how worlds and avatars get cached (too long).

@tame berry Just rebooting your router should get you a new IP, as long as your ISP doesn't issue semi-fixed long-lease IPs. Keep in mind that it doesn't matter how good your router is, DDoS work by saturating your connection, you can't negate it yourself, it has to be blocked by your upstream provider, which isn't really a thing on residential internet connections.

I've tried the hand tracking-- I wouldn't call it a proof of concept, and I tried it a few months ago 😛

There's definite challenges to it though, people still rely a ton of the features of a physical controller. Locomoting, accessing menus, etc are all pretty tough when you don't have physical buttons and joysticks to mess with. Solvable problems, probably, but not without designing an entirely new interface and UI for them

Menu useage is actually more enjoyable with hand tracking then controllers imo
Gets you some neat feedback and options that normal controllers can also do but more sluggish
Locomotion is a big joke with just hand tracking what makes it useless in almost all cases
