They're switching from unity 2017 long term support edition to 2018. It makes the game more stable to stay on one edition rather than switch every three months and break everything.
The extra year buffer gives them a chance to work with the edition they're switching to before it's implemented.
Also 2019 edition lts is not out yet anyway.

Whenever I start up VRC in desktop with a controller plugged in (and forget about it) and then click go for the first time, my camera starts spinning. Unplugging the controller doesn't do anything and the only fix I've found so far is just a restart and launch w/out controller.

@raven depot Unplug your controller before you launch, that's what I have to do. Alternately if you launch via Steam you can set up a controller config via Steam's controller binding UI, and that'll fix it (and make the controller usable, as a bonus)

When I want to friend someone or clone their avatar, I'll press esc and as usual the menu comes up, I'll mouse over people's little blue bubble, I'll click it, and the option to clone them or friend them doesn't appear even though I'm positive I'm clicking them.

@vocal shard Yeah I know, but the Rift S was horrible (I had 3 defective units sent to me lol...) at launch too. Took about 4-5 months to get it stable finally. Cosmos will be the same...My reasoning for suggesting the cosmos for VRChat, is the ability to use Full-body-tracking without needing something like the Kinect/Kinect2VR. I use it, and it works, but its jittery as hell. HTC Devices are much better for FBT. Once the bugs are worked out, new firmware pushed etc, it'll be better.

@arctic vector to use the steamvr tracking system with the cosmos though, you'll need to buy the $200 addon faceplate, and then new controller on top of that first, so you'll already be more expensive than an index before you actually buy the trackers

Oh man...Okay, so first, close-to-headset tracking on Rift S was bust at launch. For example, Pavlov VR was nearly unplayable. You couldn't aim guns XD...Eventually that was patched. There was also a huge issue with many people facing "Static" flashes, think 90's TV whitenoise on the screen, that would 'flicker' your entire VR display for 0.1 seconds, randomly, every 10-30 mins on average. It wasn't jarring, it was too quick to throw you off, but it was very annoying. Then, many people had issues with hands 'freezing in the air' where they could still ROTATE but not MOVE. This required a hard-unplug of the Rift S USB and DP cables, or a reboot of PC, to reset. Eventually it was traced to USB power settings that needed to be changed via rift S installation changes in new setups shipped out, or manually for people who didnt want to reinstall, via device manager.
.> And that's not mentioning many bad units shipped. I pre-ordered mine, and it was defective. One they replaced it with was defective, one I received after was fine....Bought girlfriend one, it was defective, replacement was fine.

My only feedback with the quest Mike has people been saying I sound like I’m talking from a Drive-In, but I was also using ALVR to stream from PC and don’t know if that’s why the quality sucked or if the Quest is just sub-par. Never got a chance to try it directly.

My main gripe is the comfort on the Quest. If it was actually comfortable then, given the release of the Link, I wouldn't really have many qualms about recommending it. Weight + doesn't fit your face comfortably though are kinda killers.

the left controller is for moving and the right one is for rotation (just like with either an xbox controller or mouse and keyboard. wasd moving and mouse is rotation)

there is no finger tracking only finger sensing
so the buttons can tell if the finger is on/very close to it and that allows to use gestures which is allready really great
but there is no actual tracking.

Finger sensing = is a finger currently touching this button. Basically capacitive.
