@muted vector if you want to go from scratch the basics would be figuring out a 3d modeling program that can spit out characters in the FBX format, blender is free and there are a lot of tutorials around
if you want to import models that others have made im sure there are tutorials for that as well, MMD models are very common and as i understand it only require a bit of rejiggering to work as vrchat avatars
then that exported fbx model is imported into unity, set up to work with the system vrchat uses and then uploaded
i guess the time limit is to get rid of some of the worst trolls that make avatar for the sole purpose of ruining everyone elses experience
getting banned and having to make a new account and play out the timer will seem like a way less appealing prospect than "make new account, upload, troll, get banned and repeat"

Yeah, and it's not a time limit. It's based more on activity and interaction we think. It's unknown exactly how it works, but you could AFK and it won't let you upload, you actually have to be active in the game

Hey, here's an idea you should've had on your own.
Instead of taking self-sitting chairs away from avatar creators at the expense of nothing to world creators, how about world creators that would want to have the use of flight-chairs explicitly limited actually make the effort to add invisible trigger walls that send the player back to spawn when the player's capsule crosses it?
The Avatar creators actually get a bone and world creators can start implementing something they should have been implementing for a long time now. It'd help with players falling through the map and falling forever or getting stuck. It'd probably prevent huge avatars with chairs from ferrying others around. 
Because those triggers do still work when you're seated.

I updated Avatar Testing into the Halloween theme and fixed a performance issue that's been in it a while. On index I get 60 looking certain ways and 120 in other ways, with about 4 people now. I've never even seen 120 in it while alone before this fix!

so back in the early days of minecraft there was no redstone
my friends and i found a way to create logic gates out of nothing but water, glass, and flowers
basically the water would run down a channel and over a piece of glass with a flower underneath
the water would block the sunlight and eventually kill the flower
the flower was blocking a channel of water that would then run through when the flower was destroyed
we were able to make simple binary to decimal converters, and calculators
then notch decided to add redstone and make computation a FEATURE
imagine if notch had just removed our ability to make logic gates with water, sunlight, glass and flowers entirely, and never let us make in game computational constructions ever again
thats what vrchat is doing with the flying shit imo
had notch not fed on our creativity and made his game better, by embracing an unintended bug as a feature, we would not have nearly as many cool things in minecraft today.
vrchat has taken the opposite approach and removed our ability to fly with self seated chairs, basically taking fun features away from the community.

You presumably need to play the game in a normal manner with your VRChat account, walking around, meeting people and also making some friends. Idling won't help.
According to many responses in this discord, a rough estimate would be 20-40 hours, but big exceptions are possible.
Make sure you are not using a steam or oculus account because those can not be verified and continue playing the game until you get a notification or e-mail.

The headset variables are mainly resolution, how it fits, etc.
Tracking is also a big variable that is very different between the different options
I like the Rift S and Quest since they are "inside out" trackers.
So, there's a lot less work required to set them up and get them going

Low frame rate VR can actually be a very uncomfortable if not downright miserable experience.

You may want to look into the Oculus Quest, because it sounds like your computer may not be powerful enough

I have weak cpu but I could use s. It's probably if you don't have dedicated gpu at all.
And on plus side if you use quest on pc through alvr. You can play vrchat even on a decent gpu and weak cpu. It's still way better than quest performance. The oculus software in background takes a huge chunk of memory and cpu use which you don't have with pcvr streaming.
The latency is not ideal for new vr users tho.

On my old computer I programmed in VS2012 express. When I installed Unity on it for making VRChat stuff (around late 2017) it installed another version of VS. Even after uninstalling that, my VS2012 instance was completely bricked. Beyond any repair. I had to give up on it. So I installed a even newer VS and coded in it for a month before it locked me out of it.
On my new computer I installed VS2019 community, and despite it saying that it was free, it once again locked me out of it after a month. I can't even click "sign in", the page is blank! Same issue on my previous computer. I have to enter another window with its own login screen to manage. But then it gives me an error saying to login on my browser.
Logging in on my browser asks me to go to my email for a vertification code. Entering thevertification code tells me that my account has been blocked for breaking their rules in the time that I wasn't even using VS. Either way, my account is once again held hostage until I give them my phone number, but I absolutely refuse. Microsoft can burn in hell.

Theres also the fact that with VR, with prescription lenses, it's like I'm not wearing glasses? Obviously you still have the headset on but that's the world, and usually I need glasses to see the world, so not needing glasses to see must be an amazing feeling... All of Filn's and Subcom's stuff has the androgynous look going on. I'm fine with that, it's the hypebeast ones with caps that wind me up (which 99% of the time appear to be rips from VRCM, because they all have like 30-60 meshes and materials).

the best part about unity dev is no toolchain configuration, getting anything C/++ working on windows thats not visual studio is absolute hell

Probably a better idea to clean up some space like that instead of reinstalling your entire OS, which means reinstalling all your programs again as well and settings things up
Plus not every game uses Steam cloud so depending on how you manage your save games you might lose those too

I've found it to be 100% worth it for me.
Downside is.. $$, and battery life is 4-5 hours.

If you made your own avatar, make a loli height version. That's what attracts headpats. I created a tiny version of my Dragon avatar and it gets many headpads. Tis nice.

Apparently they have the same size battery. Just the new ones takes twice as much to power. I am guessing it's the backwards compatibility of the V2 trackers? Since it has to support the old base stations and new ones? Not really sure
