Some of them have a bot account that's present in the instance to join off, some start in a public instance you can join then move to a more private one for the event itself.

That’s typically due to the mesh part either being part of a different armature or if it’s not a skinned mesh it’s not positioned in the higharchy as a child of the bone you want it to follow

You might want to tweak the muscles & settings limits in the rig configuration.
Exactly how is up to trial and error since there's no useful documentation on it.
And make sure the bones in the thumb are placed correctly and not in some weird anatomically incorrect positions, which sometimes is done to compensate for other weird shit.

Many avatar thumbs are rotated weird but have a custom animation to not look bad. But with Index you need your muscle directions and ranges actually configured correctly.
This is going to be a part of unity few have probably even touched in the past
You can make anything look good it’s just going to be a bit of work messing with the muscle config tab of unity import settings

@cyan pier i had a similar issue with my Nvidia RTX2080, after a driver update everything that used the GPU for rendering went bonkers.
I had to refresh the entire windows since the socalled ddu and manual uninstall did not work for me. (DDU:display driver uninstaller)
I hope in your instance that you just can uninstall the driver and take the previous version of it.
Since then i always wait a few weeks before i update my GPU drivers.

@uncut crag most of the tracking data is handled through actual motion sensors in the controllers themselves. the cameras are just there to recalibrate their position and make sure they're accurate when in front of you. so you can still reach behind you outside of the camera view, and keep tracking just through the motion sensors in the controllers. but they can only be out so long before they start to loose their position, so after a few seconds, they will lock until your bring your hands back into camera view. Still plenty of time to do most things where your hands would be outside the camera view like reaching for a weapon or passing something behind your back

The CPU is fine, that GPU will struggle. You also need to double check it'll work as laptops sometimes have weird video routing which makes them incompatible for VR.
A 1050 Ti I believe is literally the absolute minimum spec for VR and the mobile version may be slightly slower than the desktop one. So, assuming the laptop doesn't have any complications, it will work, but you'll struggle on many games and may need to turn the rendering resolution down which in turn will make everything look worse.

@timid stone As tenten said, you'll need to find the original model (many of the bases are from DeviantArt) and then remodel it in an editor, e.g. Blender, then import it into Unity and do the final fixes before upload there.

Turns out there's a widespread shortage of Vive cables in the UK right now. Almost everywhere is out of stock.
So be careful to treat yours kindly. No sharp bends or tugs, and untwist it regularly.
HTC still sells them directly, but is clearly shipping from somewhere outside of the country due to the absurd shipping costs.

Finding a good modeler for your commission requires patience and a bit of research, you would need to see their previous works and projects so you would have a clear picture about the person who's about to take on your request.

If no one made a VRC model yet, there's a chance for either an MMD model or an SMD model that has been made out there.
But for those, you would have to port them into unity to make the VRC ready. That would require you to get familiar with blender, however.
