Platform and support is a big thing though.
Games like Beat saber will be nice with the Quest. But sideloading is an extremely big turndown what makes it imo, not worth getting.

Normally the last bone in the chain never rotates in dynamic bone, with end length it does. Bananers method is good but I feel like not using a root bone and instead using 1 bone with end length or end offset looks better.
This will require 2 components for the skirt but that shouldn't matter

I've heard people say "nah, my 40 materials are OK because they're instanced". I'm pretty sure skinned meshes (i.e. pretty much every avatar) cannot be instanced
And instancing can only work if two objects have the same mesh and same shader as far as I know.
GPU material instancing only works in exceedingly specific situations
Useful for repeatable buildings in simple cities for example
Static Batching is something you'll see used more often in this game, and even then that only really works for worlds.
Forcing GPU Instancing on will probably not help one bit

you have dynamic bones, but by default anything above 32 will be gone.
Even that can be disabled as a user choice. If you want to disable the limiter, it is one click and then you don't have to worry about it again.
I even use the limiter in real life. I'm tired of being surrounded by things filled with dynamic bones, like my wife, and these water balloons I keep near my desk for no clear reason

did you empty cache after the update Rokk ... have alot of issues after update of old cache files being mixed with new ones
This update should be very useful for me. As much as I enjoy flowy movements and such, my old CPU is on it's last legs.
IK is taking the same amount of time to load, but you'll see the avatar sooner. It might look weird until the IK loads fully.

@median basalt GPU Instancing requires shaders to support it, it can only draw multiple copies of the same mesh, and instanced batches are split by a huge number of things like lightmapping, light probes, reflection probes, different real-time lights, and more.
Skinned mesh renderers are never batched, and Dynamic Batching only applies to very low poly meshes. See https://docs.unity3d.com/2017.4/Documentation/Manual/DrawCallBatching.html for more details.

Not to say that something else could've been the reason for it breaking and the issue might be difficult to fix but I would think it isn't. I'm not a dev though so I can't say that for sure.

I think it's sufficed to say that this is the one and only update that has forced me not to play. For some reason everything is now broken visually. UI selection is completely messed up, everything somehow looks blurrier and render queue issues are now apparent in some worlds such as the hub.

No, editing the json file for both the DB limiter and particle limiter are supported features and carry no risk of banning.

The one shown at the end of this page should be valid, as it has entries for the DB limiter.
For me the limiter is going to be a god send for higher population worlds. Can't see the flowy hair anyway when my screen is flashing black and I can't move.
I hope it can make it so I can see all user avatars while on stage at improv, instead of having to just turn off all avatars and just enable the people I need to be interacting with.

I used to get that issue a while ago where steam thinks an app is still running so it won't launch.

just did, steam actually ends all steam services on its own when i end it

Mine sometimes doesn't though whenever i close the steam.exe. Then i have to manually end the process for the client bootstrapper as well.

Should only really happen if your superfetch is acting up. Or at least that's what it was for me.
High ram usage so superfetch starts having issues and moves to disk, so to mitigate that I have to restart the service.
Only ever happens when I play VRChat or Unity.

If you wan't a quick way around, you can go to the start button and right click > run > type services.msc > and find superfetch
restart that and see if it works for you, might help.
But restarting usually squashes all problems with services running at once. So if all else fails go for it.
I'm on a hard drive so its a big oof for me restarting my pc. Load times are crap.

So, this update, the dynamic bone limiter is ON by default so dynamic bones do not work on an avatar of the transforms count is above 32.

and it also counts transforms which don't even matter still I bet
the original avatar performance thing was off by 1 on every single script, so if you had a lot of scripts the count would be progressively more and more incorrect
congrats by reading the patchnotes you know where to look to check if theyre not working instead of just popping in a chat "WhYbOnEmAcHiNeBrOkE"
I think I'd prefer it if all the limiting features were opt-in, since it's not like this game is for people with potato computers anyway

I don't have those issues and my computer isn't really that much faster. the only times I had performance issues at all were when something like 40+ people were joined
I would have been fine with just saying "ok only 10 people can have their dynamic bone running so we'll just rake in the active radius when more people are present"

To figure out who crashed you with a particle or shader is easy but takes time.
god most annoying was some asshole glitched through the door to the pubs basement as i was talking with some people couldnt remeber the dudes name and he just went to town down there with some shit dubstep cranked to 10 and world shaking shaders

I have to spam my trigger and only after 100+ tries does it actually work.
@worthy tapir this happens if your FPS is really ass, it somehow messes with the laser selection. Which is somewhat counter-intuitive since blocking/hiding avatars is usually done when your FPS is low already
so I have to also spam the selection to be able to hide the very poor avatars

if anyone is having issues logging in, log in, then, quit the app, restart it. that worked for me
mine kept looping from login screen, saying "logging in..." back to login screen. quitting and restarting logged me in without needing to re-enter the info

Like I hit add favorite on avatars for hours and they don't add, next day they show up. Is that a server issue or is there anything I can do about that
I was having similar problem few days ago, just for favoriting worlds though, it took 1 hour to update properly. It is probably just a networking issue, which hopefully will be improved/solved with recent changes to the way how client communicates with server in the background. I don't think you can make it better other than clearing cache and restarting the game, which may or may not work.

ha so i love how i spent hours on dyanmic bones for my avatars and to find out that it doesnt matter because you guys limit them recently
was it to prevent lag? probably, however i hang with my friends and they have avatars with over 70 bones on dyanmic bones and no one lags when we played
you can turn off the limiter in the safety settings
took me a bit to find, you guys put it on by default and a lot of people dont even check there settings on vrchat. the amount of people that complained about me not having dyanmic bones and then i had to tell them to turn off the damn setting is getting a little bit annoying
Yeah, i also spent quite some time on my DB one year ago, and i'm currently trying to remove some of them to went under the default limits. But it doesn't work, in avatar stats, they are clearly under the default limits, but the limiter still disabled them regardless.

Twitch will have to ask companies for streaming permissions. Stream chat is falling under copyright rules. Same all graphics and music on stream. Till now user was responsible for violations. Now whole platform is. They will have to monitor streamers much more because, as you said they are responsible now.
Vrc is a social game and as a game with default avatars its fine. But all customs, music, world rips inside are hard to be excluded. If a game becomes too costly to be monitored do you think twitch will be happy with it?
