Yeah, you can tell by the cameras on the side that it's going for WMR style same as the Quest and Rift-S.
Which means it won't be compatible with the knuckles, unless a separate version of the knuckles is released for it.
I think that the prototype valve headset we saw photos of lacked the divots as well, or at least they were much less obvious than they currently are on the vive.
"modular customizations" also mentioned, whether that's just bespoke accessories in a souped up term is debatable though

I've been doing it for 2 years with GPUs and now it's happening with VR headsets

Is one of the reasons I've been telling people that a mid range WMR is a reasonable option for entry level VR right at the moment.
FOMO is the devil and will kill your fun more than actually missing out
But it depends on what you want it for. If you're in it for the games, I normally recommend a full external tracking option.
If there was a way to quantify the fun and experiences I've had in the last 6 months, told me that a new headset will come out in a year, then giving me the option to buy one now or later, I'd buy it sooner.
Plus selling my extra gadgets to Cex is going very slowly and they seem to have misplaced one of my packages full of stuff

If you're buying a 2nd hand Vive, try to make sure it's the revised version and not the original.

I bought my first headset not knowing if VR was just going to be a fad or not. I was not worried that I would buy a headset and then nobody would be around to play anymore, I was worried that I would not buy it and miss out on my one chance to have fun while lasted. So I bought the headset. Just in case it was just a fad.
I think people say the Lenovo WMR is a good one? For a budget option.

I used a rift at a friends house and then I went out to Best Buy to buy one that same night. bestbuy I was closed so I bought it in the morning. Longest night ever. Being made aware that vr like exists and not owning it was torture.
Got a Lithuanian friend in VRC. His wages are atrocious, and the headsets all cost 50% more for no apparent reason.
Even worse in some countries further out from the 1st world.

I did know of VR like 6 years ago, though that was back when the Oculus DK1 was in a few people's hands

Detect a saccade, rotate the playspace slightly to point you away from the chaperone bounds
VR right now is twice as hard to render. With FR there's the potential for it to become twice as easy as normal instead.
Would be like the difference between playing on a casual laptop or a top end gaming PC.

I do enjoy the way VR has been innovating in all sorts of places people didn't expect.
Even the simplest things like Samsung's screen technology for the Odyssey+.
Until recently, there hadn't really been any reason to develop a screen type specifically for viewing up close.
VR came, and loads of people were nay saying about the screen door effect being too big to overcome. Then Samsung killed it.

I noticed VRchat ran a lot better recently, then I turned off safety and realised it was due to all the terrible shaders and dynamic lights on half the avatars
We have been promised significant performance boosts for the IK system, if they can bring that back. Which would certainly help though.

Yeah, a majority of avatars don't have terribly laggy shaders or lights, the ones that do just tend to be really, really bad
I know enough people in game that have made an effort, even small ones where possible, that it's certainly had some benefit.

Without going into the full normal spiel, my main advice is to get full roomscale. (meaning either Vive, or Rift + a third sensor)
Add up the full real price of each option, factoring in how and where you're going to mount the sensors/lighthouses, batteries, hubs etc,
Don't be suckered into thinking the $400 price is the real price, unless you're willing to settle for a half way there 180 degree experience.
That new Vive headset... unless the tracking is better by a factor of 4 in comparison to current gen headsets... no thank you.

Vive Pro-i: It has built-in eye tracking with an option for foveated rendering, but it's going to be very expensive so they're not gonna be as popular

You can clean cache by deleting everything within C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\LocalLow\VRChat\vrchat apart from output_log.txt and config.json if you have them

VRChat is a bit of a ram hog. I've seen it go up to 12G or so
Have you looked at more detailed system information to see which DIMM slots it is detecting
Oh, if your dimms aren't being detected, try running with one at a time. If you get 8G with each dimm on its own, and with each slot, you might be hitting some sort of mobo limit
If I had to guess after moving that stick of ram and reseating it, it's probably bad, or it is a mobo limit or you somehow only have 8 total and each stick is 4GB (ram packaging is often intentionally misleading)

May as well buy 2x8 and keep your old sticks. Could even go for 16 as they can have better $/gb but probably overkill

It's working decently but I'd like to figure out how to change what certain buttons do though the control menu is confusing
When you start up VRChat, you can change settings if you hold ctrl or shift (I forgot which, sorry)
Other than that, I don't know, you will have to experiment or find somebody else who has tried them

Can't get annoyed at an extra "feature" that doesn't work when you're used to the days when there was very little features to begin with.
Back in the days you were used getting 30 fps. Even if it dips I'm hardly bothered by it. Of course it's always better when it's 45-90 fps but I can live with lower fps.
That was because the refresh rate/frametime was locked to 30fps, which was somewhat tolerable for Desktop users, but hard to get used to for VR users

I played already more than 2100h, but still have ”User” rank. Also already upload my own world and avatars...
My friends who played only 600-700h already have Trusted or another rank.
@scarlet musk Nobody knows how it exactly works. We think that playing the game (hours + interaction), the ranks of your friends, the amount of friends and the amount of times you get blocked/muted play a big role, content upload is confirmed to also play a role, we dont know how much the different things weigh though.

I think the ranks have alot to do with friends, if the "checklist" from the homespace says anything.
the checklist is just for new users
it gives a little motivation to unlock new things for the home world by completing the things.
@scarlet musk It sounds a bit unusual that you'd have the "User" rank after 2000+ hours, but if you happen to get frequently blocked by the users you interact with and such, that might negatively impact your "rank".

Well yeah, but everything on the list is also in the tutorial of how to rank up, so it'd make sense doing all four would raise your rank.
obviously they influence your rank, but nobody knows how much.
Also adding players as friends overrides the ranks when it comes to avatars so thats also an option.

Well, you would only need the higher ranks for Avatar effects like props and animations as they serve no other purpose. I can't imagine any other reason to care about the rank so it'd be simple enough to just add users you'd want to show it off to.
I know someone who is ranked as a user but have a ton of hours, uploaded content and sub 30 blocks against them

The way the API is set up, it seems very likely it could be manually set, but as mentioned, I believe they don't tend to make any exceptions.

honestly I didn't get into VRchat until a week ago when I realized it'd finally been officially supported for Occulus and I'd never heard of the ranks until I logged in.
I've heard also of interesting cases.
When people have a rank above the User (Trusted or another) in some worlds (where they often play), but when they change the world, they again Users..
It's more like they care about things that immediately affect players' reasoning to stop playing
Sounds like the game was just failing to fetch the information properly from the API in that case.

Stuff that needs immediate fixing and keeps the players in, the photon glitch is not as bad as it used to be and a lot less people are just logging others out.
I'd argue that the fact that logout clients becoming increasingly more common and the amount of access those clients have are quite a big hole in the "security" of the game
If it doesn't make streamers stop streaming and people stop playing then a lot of these things can be avoided by going private

You can usually take a screenshot of an avatar and go part hunting for 20 minutes and combine them just as fast with cats to get most avatars

I get some stuttering here or there but thats all my systems fault and not the game. And it used to not run at all thanks to Steam forcing their overlay over Occulus's so I'd have to say its way better.

They introduced network limiting, so if your net is shit you will get kicked or loading looped.

The game will black screen you if you have too bad of a connection.
Loading loops also happen mostly on people with satellite internet.
So there has been at least some form of network limiting introduced
most likely with the planned ik change, where the client handles cal and then synchs it with others.
I haven't had either of that happen yet thankfully. Though I have had some worlds take like 10 minutes to download.

It should be active stuff, not total stuff. If the base version that I see active only has 20k poly’s, 2 materials, 10 dyn bones, and nothing else, that’s what I want to rate it on. I don’t care about crazy animations that are 500k polys, 80 materials, 20 dyn bones, 30 animators..
Any “super unoptimized” avatar is more than likely a good meme avatar.
4 db scripts and 16 db components is most you can have for good. More puts you in medium. Db colliders are what put you in poor and for good reason: a single avatar with 2500 collidion checks was able to drop me from 45 to 30fps today.
i'm yet to have a single avatar drop my performance to the point id feel the need to be mad

A dyn bone collider that affects only two breast bones for example has 4 collision checks and throws you down

literally the only reason my avatars are very poor is because of the hair ... in total i never go above 13 DB and 11 colliders..
If I had to guess, the idea is to try to get people used to solutions that do not require any colliders to work

So just do what you think is right. As it is now, making avatars with very poor or poor ratings is often the right thing to do: including a snail pen or tasteful colliders on a model that needs it
I have one such system... It's me... I just manually turn off my wiggly things in populated areas...
However now you have a way to evaluate it yourself so you know if you put a few hundred extra collision checks

You can have 32 dynamic bones and 4 colliders without being poor. You just need to be smart with them as you only get 8 collision checks. Medium avatar with dynamic bones are totally reasable people just need to learn better ways of avoiding clipping. Colliders to avoid clipping is bad.
Dresses do not need 30 dynamic bones. Or even 8.

To me, 5 or 20 doesn't make much difference. But avatars that has 4 digit dynamic bone transforms (and they're quite common) are doing something wrong for sure
Especially since merging bones is totally automatic in CATS. You can decimate, combine bones, combine similar materials, atlas, etc. In like 2 minutes. If you spend a week on your avatar, 2 minutes shouldn't be much to ask

Dynamic bone colliders are also taken in consideration I think.
They are, as well as the total collision check, which is the easiest to explode
I feel like these people with all-excellent-except-very-poor DB avatars think a weighted system is gonna give them good instead.. really all the small stuff being excellent would probably get them to medium if they are lucky but probably just get them out of very poor into poor.

Current system doesn't really encourage people to optimize beyond what their rank already is. Sure I could optimize these dynamic bones, but I'm already ranked very poor because of my bounds or particles so there's no reason to bother

The game 'Gun-Heart' has an interesting turning method, where rather than continuous rotation, you kind of rotate your thumb round the exterior of the trackpad to turn. (presumable same with stick)

Yeah, VRCs controls with comfort protection off is more or less what all games need to offer as standard.
The nervousness about "VR can only do teleport" are simply unrequired. Devs need to get more daring.
They should allow teleport motion if possible, without compromising on their game, but otherwise people have just gotta jump in and learn to swim.
I’m pretty sure there is no option to walk around in steamvr home and it’s ridiculous. I hate teleporting so much that I just never explore in it

I like how certain games took the teleport thing and matched it to the theme of the game. Both Sairento and Gun Heart allow traditional sliding movement and rotation, but also make "teleport" motion a really fun a thematic part of the game.

The way the pogo sticks worked in this test world, was that you held them with one hand, and any time the bottom touched something, it would apply force in the reverse direction launching you.
Once all VR headsets can tell when people blink, there needs to be a "Weeping Angel" mode, where you appear like a statue until everyone blinks and you teleport to them.

Oh i have a Fps controller for standalone that has that exact movement.. i just used to oculus sdk on it and used oculus centre camera in replacement of players main camera and left/right eye.. works perfect and spring step i made with head bob and set main floor to slight bounce and changed physics time to faster when it comes to bounce.. so that every step is a bounce there is no miss.

Your view point wasn't oriented with the stick, but it could move you in all directions, not just up.

So you tilt it and kinda bounce your hand, and you'd build momentum forward.
If you slam the stick down hard, you'd get a bigger jump. The speed of your fall would also factor into this, meaning you could build some huge speed and height if you timed bounces right.

One fun thing was that you could dual wield the pogo sticks.

Well squishy i have the exact same fps controller as what we use to wall bounce in unreal tournament ut99/ut2k4 i mean combined with friction on walls you have ut.. its fun if your up for making BT maps i guess.. but its not like i can modify the standard controller that vrchat uses.. if i could i would add the very basics atleast like footstep sounds for one.. i mean you could apply step based on foots pos on tile that works too but its a hit/miss situation and loops sounds like shit 😄
I also want to see grapple hook/spider man style swinging motion in VR.
There's an old demo that someone made not long ago that has that movement but spider man more like it uses elastic and attaches a bone to where you point and then when you jump it pulls you in..
like you can swing rope to rope from building block to building block

But unfortunately they just pull you in a rigid straight line. No swinging or momentum physics.

Well i had the Half life 1 map but i never kept the source so its dead and buried like most of what i created.. but overall its easy to do .. in place of loading times as a mesh is split you just merge sections of mesh together.. and that's all there is to it.
Colliders all over it.. though probably a good idea to use box in place of original mesh due to some meshes simply not responding to well in vrchat.. and thats it then just set up door triggers.. use door animations and whatnot npc's.. and it builds itself really takes alot of work depending on the map being made really.. black mesa took me about 3 weeks from what i recall

Already been done the police station.. and can be actually made to be more than just a mesh with colliders.. but takes time as usual
thing is needs to be connected from room to room and the dumps usually contain individual meshes so you'd have to have a map of it in your head or an image to follow in order to build it accuratly
Probably easier to use dumps from the nintendo gamecube rather than use old ps1 for the mansion as the quality would be quite aweful

all you need is a longer usb cable and your set for life.. its default grey one is way to short

I finger tracking will most likely happen with knuckle controller support update but don’t count on any other device working unless it uses knuckle’s same api
or have separate gestures for each hand
Iirc knuckle controllers in vrc are still just gesture based on the standard 8 vrc hand poses. At it was least initially and I don’t know if that is planned to change

things that most wouldn't use it for.. simply because it likes to map skeletal figures like hands and such behind me where none are.. always noises round here since im deep in the countryside.. land holds alot of history and shit happens.. so i was just using it to research really.. i have a friend who uses the same setup that actually reaches his hand out to these.. "things" and they reach out on command and touch his hand.. of course make of that what you will.. but infa red has always been a good way to pick up things that are not always seen.

Yeah well.. it doesnt only track our hands i mean its well known to map parts that do not exist thats how the spooky side got started initially.. apps on phones were picking up fully mapped figures standing behind people and such

Eh I have hybrid (oculus + vive) and I consider the finger tracking on oculus touch to be more than worth extra money spent. Do not underestimate how bad vive wands are
