#

That one has an analogue stick

#

It says it works with vive tracking, so sounds like it works with PC, along with calling it "a new premium PC VR system"

tidal aspen
#

cosmos is an HTC thing not a valve thing so I doubt they'd get the knuckles

ruby burrow
#

Wait, it works with existing Vive tracking? That sounds unlikely. '-'

tidal aspen
#

hoping for that valve headset soon

#

it seems like it uses the WMR method for tracking not the lighthouses

ruby burrow
#

I see no lighthouse sensor divots on either the Cosmos headset nor controllers.

alpine crater
#

"all new VIVE tracking system" actually, I misread

#

so it's an inside-out tracking instead of using the base stations

ruby burrow
#

Yeah, you can tell by the cameras on the side that it's going for WMR style same as the Quest and Rift-S.

#

Which means it won't be compatible with the knuckles, unless a separate version of the knuckles is released for it.

neon flume
#

I think that the prototype valve headset we saw photos of lacked the divots as well, or at least they were much less obvious than they currently are on the vive.

alpine crater
#

"modular customizations" also mentioned, whether that's just bespoke accessories in a souped up term is debatable though

languid beacon
#

Yeah base stations are useless rip 2.0 tracking and body trackers

ruby burrow
#

Useless? xD

languid beacon
#

Rip vive pro owners in general

ruby burrow
#

Hell no. It's nice to have a more accessible option for the masses, but I'm not giving up full room coverage and accuracy that external tracking has.

languid beacon
#

E y e. T r a c k i n g.

alpine crater
#

I think inside out tracking is fine as long as it's improved to catch movements 99% of the time

prisma plover
#

T o n g u e. T r a c k i n g. 🤔

ruby burrow
#

Another headset with the eye tracking will emerge. They're not just going to completely abandon high end gaming VR.

languid beacon
#

But it connects to pc’s as I understand it

#

So it is a pc headset too?

alpine crater
#

It does, we don't know what that means though yet

fathom pendant
#

I could've sworn I've been banned from this server 5 times idk how the invite keeps working again after awhile

ruby burrow
#

Yes. But it's WMR style tracking only.

languid beacon
#

Well what if it also has it sensors for lighthouses! Easy and cheap to add no

ruby burrow
#

Which is plenty decent, and I often recommend it depending on peoples needs and interests, but my own interests want full tracking.

#

Well it might, but it doesn't look like it.

#

Though CrtlShiftGo made a fair point about the Valve headset having more subtle sensors than the Vive, so I guess it's possible.

torn nebula
#

Lighthouse sensors probably add $100 or so based on tracker costs

ruby burrow
#

@fathom pendant You should be banned from the game for life, Beats. You've crashed me and my friends more than once.

#

Asking for info about modded clients on other discords. Everyone would be better off without.

jade ruin
#

anybody encountered the italian mafia in the pub tonight

alpine crater
#

I just don't want to buy a vive and find out a week later the cosmos is better for PC or the valve headset comes out

#

that's usually my timing

ruby burrow
#

Yeah, it always sucks being stuck in that position, trying to guess at release dates and future info.

alpine crater
#

I've been doing it for 2 years with GPUs and now it's happening with VR headsets

#

gave in and bought a vega 56 in october, a month later it dropped by £80 or so

rigid crescent
#

You'd find out a week later that a product that's not coming out for a long time in the future might be better lol

ruby burrow
#

Is one of the reasons I've been telling people that a mid range WMR is a reasonable option for entry level VR right at the moment.

rigid crescent
#

FOMO is the devil and will kill your fun more than actually missing out

ruby burrow
#

But it depends on what you want it for. If you're in it for the games, I normally recommend a full external tracking option.

rigid crescent
#

If there was a way to quantify the fun and experiences I've had in the last 6 months, told me that a new headset will come out in a year, then giving me the option to buy one now or later, I'd buy it sooner.

alpine crater
#

Plus selling my extra gadgets to Cex is going very slowly and they seem to have misplaced one of my packages full of stuff

rigid crescent
#

There's just no point in being that scared of something better coming out.

alpine crater
#

in the time I've waited, the vive has gone up £30 on their site

ruby burrow
#

If it's just someone dying to get into VR-Chat properly with their halfway there PC, then a cheaper option makes sense.

#

If you're buying a 2nd hand Vive, try to make sure it's the revised version and not the original.

#

The older model was heavier and had worse support.

prisma plover
#

Yolo. Live now. You want VR ? Get VR. There will be always something "better" anyway.

languid beacon
#

If you do not currently own a VR headset stop waiting all this time you’re spending waiting you could be enjoying the vr while waiting for the better… it’s worth it just do it

prisma plover
#

It's such a different experience than video games on a regular screen. Worth it as it is right now I think yeah.

languid beacon
#

You will never stop waiting

ruby needle
#

if you can wait, at current point and since we're still in first gen i can see why you might want to do that

#

but you'll be missing out the time in between

alpine crater
#

It's not that I feel the need to wait (any more) for it to get better, it's more of a matter of bang for my buck

rigid crescent
#

That's pretty close to FOMO

#

You're missing out on some pretty great experiences.

torn nebula
#

There will always be an even better VR experience right around the corner

#

In the meantime you're missing out

prisma plover
#

Maybe get a WMR set. Won't cost you an arm.

ruby burrow
#

Just gonna note on the side, this is the reason HTC gave VR-Chat that nice gift. xD

#

Must be their favourite discord.

languid beacon
#

I bought my first headset not knowing if VR was just going to be a fad or not. I was not worried that I would buy a headset and then nobody would be around to play anymore, I was worried that I would not buy it and miss out on my one chance to have fun while lasted. So I bought the headset. Just in case it was just a fad.

ruby burrow
#

I think people say the Lenovo WMR is a good one? For a budget option.

prisma plover
#

Yeah well rated. The screens are great from what I heard.

#

I bought the Rift without having tested VR before. Didn't know what I was going to get into. Right at the first use, it was like "I have no regrets". 😆

languid beacon
#

Get a headset I don’t care what headset you get as long as it runs VRchat just get one OK

queen mango
#

Price

ruby burrow
#

For some people ^
Price is a problem. It's kinda tragic. 😦

queen mango
#

I'm one of those people... YokoRip

alpine crater
#

I'd get the vive as a birthday gift (3 days from now) if Cex would hurry up and finish testing the stuff I sent them

#

I've been itching to play beat saber

languid beacon
#

I used a rift at a friends house and then I went out to Best Buy to buy one that same night. bestbuy I was closed so I bought it in the morning. Longest night ever. Being made aware that vr like exists and not owning it was torture.

ruby burrow
#

Got a Lithuanian friend in VRC. His wages are atrocious, and the headsets all cost 50% more for no apparent reason.

#

Even worse in some countries further out from the 1st world.

torn nebula
#

@languid beacon even worse was when I got my headset but then realized I needed to upgrade my PC as well... That was a long week waiting for parts to arrive

queen mango
#

@languid beacon So true.. though my craving for VR didn't swell up until I encountered users playing in VR

languid beacon
#

I was a flatlander ripped into hyperspace. And then put in my flat world and told to have a good night’s rest. There was no sleeping lol

ruby burrow
#

I got to try a friends Rift round their place a few times, and then my brother bought a Vive.
Knew I needed to get my own.

queen mango
#

I did know of VR like 6 years ago, though that was back when the Oculus DK1 was in a few people's hands

#

But man.. seeing users play in VR mode in VRChat was just torturous.

#

Being a Desktop user and all..

ruby burrow
#

😦

prisma plover
#

The desktop mode of VRChat is pretty much an advertisement for VR headsets. 😅

vocal shard
#

It's just nothing I'm going to go out right away and get is all. @ruby burrow

ruby burrow
#

I've gradually watched half my friends since joining all get their own VR. I love the "You got hands!?" moments.

prisma plover
#

The first headpat iris

ruby burrow
#

@vocal shard Ah, well right now there's no news on the foveated rendering thing even existing yet, so it's not something that would have major benefits on day one anyway.

torn nebula
#

@ruby burrow and then you start showing off legs, right?

ruby burrow
#

Soon as stuff starts supporting it properly though (presuming it all works out as expected) any headest without eye tracking will be at a major loss.

median basalt
#

Eye tracking is also important for social VR games

torn nebula
#

Yeah, foveated rendering will be huge alone, and saccade redirection will be very useful in room scale as well

queen mango
#

Saccade redirection?

prisma plover
#

I'm more concerned about the guy haircut 🤔

torn nebula
#

Detect a saccade, rotate the playspace slightly to point you away from the chaperone bounds

ruby burrow
#

VR right now is twice as hard to render. With FR there's the potential for it to become twice as easy as normal instead.
Would be like the difference between playing on a casual laptop or a top end gaming PC.

torn nebula
#

There was a presentation on this in SIGGRAPH 2018

vocal shard
#

I'd be curious what kind of hardware it'd require.

ruby burrow
#

@torn nebula Haha, yes actually. That's exactly what I did. xD

torn nebula
#

@ruby burrow were you on that research team?

ruby burrow
#

Although my legs aren't used as much as I want just yet, due to the hassle of converting my current avatars for FBT. >_>

queen mango
#

@vocal shard Pretty sure the hardware reqs. atm are a GTX 970ti, an i5 to i7, 8GB of RAM.

ruby burrow
#

I'm not part of any research group no. '-'

torn nebula
#

Oh, crossed threads :)

ruby burrow
#

@vocal shard The entire point is that it will require less hardware. The same as normal occlusion culling in all modern games was a game changer for allowing bigger games or better performance.

deft falcon
#

Hello guys

ruby burrow
#

This conversation has gotten a little tangled. xD

deft falcon
#

How its going?

queen mango
#

Now it's a tangle

umbral reef
#

Tldr the more smart rending tricks we get the more impressive things become normal.
Same goes for when vr engines become better and ect

vocal shard
#

👌

torn nebula
#

There's also talk about hardware foveation - physically move the lenses so you're always looking at the sweet spot in the lens

umbral reef
#

Thbfuck would that work

halcyon kestrel
#

when you go from User to New User

umbral reef
#

I'd love to see a proof of concept of that

torn nebula
#

There was an enterprise headset vendor talking about it coming sometime in the future

#

Don't have a reference atm

prisma plover
#

@halcyon kestrel Was this a question ?

halcyon kestrel
#

no just stating

#

i was demoted

prisma plover
#

Oh. 😐

halcyon kestrel
#

Im outta her YEET

ruby burrow
#

I do enjoy the way VR has been innovating in all sorts of places people didn't expect.

#

Even the simplest things like Samsung's screen technology for the Odyssey+.
Until recently, there hadn't really been any reason to develop a screen type specifically for viewing up close.

#

VR came, and loads of people were nay saying about the screen door effect being too big to overcome. Then Samsung killed it.

vocal shard
#

👌

alpine crater
#

shame they won't ever sell it in the UK

ruby burrow
#

For now only they have that tech, but won't be long before all these various features are standardised among all headsets.

topaz lynx
#

so do you guys think VRChat will get vive cosmos support in the future?

ruby burrow
#

Cosmos can be hooked up to a PC, so yes.

#

It won't need any special support.

fleet wagon
#

Cosmos just stole the feature WMR had

#

They removed the trackers

ruby burrow
#

If you mean running the game without being linked to a PC, then no. Not unless the game can make dramatic strides in performance.

alpine crater
#

I noticed VRchat ran a lot better recently, then I turned off safety and realised it was due to all the terrible shaders and dynamic lights on half the avatars

ruby burrow
#

We have been promised significant performance boosts for the IK system, if they can bring that back. Which would certainly help though.

rigid crescent
#

how many avatars have lights, wat

ruby burrow
#

And the recent push on avatar optimisation should be helping hopefully.

rigid crescent
#

i rarely see that

alpine crater
#

might be that I saw a lot of car avatars

#

headlights

rigid crescent
#

Yeah, a majority of avatars don't have terribly laggy shaders or lights, the ones that do just tend to be really, really bad

ruby burrow
#

I know enough people in game that have made an effort, even small ones where possible, that it's certainly had some benefit.

rigid crescent
#

Yeah, I'm glad Yuumi's avatars are all super popular since they're pretty optimized for the most part while not being boring to look at

#

Been seeing them more and more

ruby burrow
#

I still need to finish my own optimised variants of my main avatars before someone catches me out as a hypocrite. ^ ^;

opaque hawk
#

My friend told me he sees my avatars all the time, hopefully it’s my more optimized avatars

ruby burrow
#

I've got high performance options I can use. Is just that my favourites have been more difficult.

#

In particular I need to optimise those oversized kannas of mine, before someone recognises them from Reddit. >_>;

#

Christ those things are bad.

#

Old pre-made vanilla Kanna from the place that must not be named.
The damn thing had four seperate Dy-Bone scripts on the freaking panties of all things.

#

It's got something like 12 bones in the sodding loli panties alone.

#

They don't even move! Not in the slightest! <_>

opaque hawk
#

Yikes that a little excessive lol

umbral reef
#

Moving Loli panties should land people in jail

neon flume
#

That’s a little terrifying shock

ruby burrow
#

I'd never actually looked at it properly. Before the perf rating update I used to switch to that Kanna when the game was lagging, under some misguided notion that it was more optimised than my other avatars.

faint oriole
#

which VR i should get, Oculus or Vive ?

opaque hawk
#

The one you think is the coolest

umbral reef
#

Got the money to burn and big playspace? Vive.
Else get ocu

faint oriole
#

I was thinking in getting Vive, bc of only 4gb ram req

ruby burrow
#

Without going into the full normal spiel, my main advice is to get full roomscale. (meaning either Vive, or Rift + a third sensor)

#

Add up the full real price of each option, factoring in how and where you're going to mount the sensors/lighthouses, batteries, hubs etc,

faint oriole
#

my playroom is like 5m only

#

4*

ruby burrow
#

Don't be suckered into thinking the $400 price is the real price, unless you're willing to settle for a half way there 180 degree experience.

ruby needle
#

2 sensors can work very well for 360.

#

but you need to place em right.

prisma plover
#

That new Vive headset... unless the tracking is better by a factor of 4 in comparison to current gen headsets... no thank you.

languid beacon
#

Yeah maybe don't DM me asking how to break VRChat's rules. @minor sluice

queen mango
#

Vive Pro-i: It has built-in eye tracking with an option for foveated rendering, but it's going to be very expensive so they're not gonna be as popular

minor sluice
#

sry

languid beacon
#

So Vive Pro Eye is already a replacement for Vive Pro?

torn nebula
#

If the only improvement is foveation I'll wait. If it also bring higher resolution... We'll see

prisma plover
#

Oh, yes. If they improve the resolution by a factor of 3, buying it could be justified.

torn nebula
#

I just wonder how badly screenspace shaders will break

prisma plover
#

An increase in framerate could help too. Especially for extremely fast paced games.

#

The GPUs will have to handle that tho. But they certainly can I think.

opaque hawk
#

All I want for is inside out + lighthouses on the same headset and controllers

quartz nacelle
#

when i try to open vrchat i keep getting sent to the error world

brazen kayak
#

I'm having problems with the friends list being extremely slow

prisma plover

I would try to clear the cache first.

#

!cleancache

floral flaxBOT
#

You can clean cache by deleting everything within C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\LocalLow\VRChat\vrchat apart from output_log.txt and config.json if you have them

uncut trail
#

Why is VRchat taking so much RAM

prisma plover
#

Depends. How much is it taking right now ?

uncut trail
#

idk cause i have like 7gb of ram and goes around 1-2gb

prisma plover
#

1-2 gb is reasonable for modern day gaming standards.

uncut trail
#

(idk why it's showing 8gb of ram instead of 16gb

prisma plover
#

Make sure your RAM sticks are properly seated ?

uncut trail
#

It is

prisma plover
#

Could be a bad RAM stick. Or something wrongly configured in the BIOS. Or the motherboard doesn'T support more than 8GB of RAM.

#

Could possibly try to run the RAM into different sockets, of course properly paired to the proper channels.

uncut trail
#

i tried changing the slots few times and didnt work

#

Funny can't run OBS + VRChat when takes to much RAM

torn nebula
#

VRChat is a bit of a ram hog. I've seen it go up to 12G or so

umbral oracle
#

Have you looked at more detailed system information to see which DIMM slots it is detecting

torn nebula
#

Oh, if your dimms aren't being detected, try running with one at a time. If you get 8G with each dimm on its own, and with each slot, you might be hitting some sort of mobo limit

umbral oracle
#

If I had to guess after moving that stick of ram and reseating it, it's probably bad, or it is a mobo limit or you somehow only have 8 total and each stick is 4GB (ram packaging is often intentionally misleading)

prisma plover
#

Yeah, hence the "Slots used: 2 of 4". Assuming both are 8GB, that would be the mobo limited to 8GB.

uncut trail
#

NM

#

I only have 8gb of RAM installed

umbral oracle
#

Ok if you have 2 free slots you know what to put there 😉 gonna cost a bit though but ram has pretty good payoff in terms of performance especially coming from 8gb

neat bluff
#

Are servers down?

#

Every game I join there’s no one there

uncut trail
#

Yeah def need to get least 16gb of ram

#

least

umbral oracle
#

May as well buy 2x8 and keep your old sticks. Could even go for 16 as they can have better $/gb but probably overkill

torn nebula
#

32GB is pretty nice tbh

particularly with all the spectre hardening that has been happening with web browsers these days

So does anyone else have really bad VRChat connection?

umbral reef
#

Plenty have the problem

#

Its an exploit and the devs are working on a fix (even though its taking way to long by now)

#

Because they use a networking exploit
Its not like they crash you with particles, they just let your client disconnect itself.

Back in the days you were used getting 30 fps. Even if it dips I'm hardly bothered by it. Of course it's always better when it's 45-90 fps but I can live with lower fps.

#

hi

kindred glacier
#

hey can someone help me, how to disable phantom input for controllers , like nonexistant axis

median basalt
#

You mean constant turning to the left?

#

Unplug any controllers you might have. If in VR you can also unfocus the window

#

This game seems to treat any controller as always turning left

scarlet musk
#

Helo everyone, how actually works ranking system VRChat?
I played already more than 2100h, but still have ”User” rank. Also already upload my own world and avatars...
My friends who played only 600-700h already have Trusted or another rank.

glossy wharf
#

@scarlet musk Nobody knows how it exactly works. We think that playing the game (hours + interaction), the ranks of your friends, the amount of friends and the amount of times you get blocked/muted play a big role, content upload is confirmed to also play a role, we dont know how much the different things weigh though.

kindred glacier
#

after unplugging, the game still keeps turning left

#

until i go out of window and back again

barren echo
#

I think the ranks have alot to do with friends, if the "checklist" from the homespace says anything.

glossy wharf
#

the checklist is just for new users

#

it gives a little motivation to unlock new things for the home world by completing the things.

velvet quarry
#

@scarlet musk It sounds a bit unusual that you'd have the "User" rank after 2000+ hours, but if you happen to get frequently blocked by the users you interact with and such, that might negatively impact your "rank".
A general explanation of the system is available here, though may be slight outdated:
https://medium.com/@vrchat/vrchat-safety-and-trust-system-4073f05ab602

barren echo
#

Well yeah, but everything on the list is also in the tutorial of how to rank up, so it'd make sense doing all four would raise your rank.

glossy wharf
#

obviously they influence your rank, but nobody knows how much.

barren echo
#

Also adding players as friends overrides the ranks when it comes to avatars so thats also an option.

glossy wharf
#

and we will never know.

#

Not sure how thats an option

#

to him asking why his rank is so low compared to hours spent and content uploaded.

earnest harbor
#

the systems broke for some players

barren echo
#

Well, you would only need the higher ranks for Avatar effects like props and animations as they serve no other purpose. I can't imagine any other reason to care about the rank so it'd be simple enough to just add users you'd want to show it off to.

earnest harbor
#

I know someone who is ranked as a user but have a ton of hours, uploaded content and sub 30 blocks against them

glossy wharf
#

I mean i would also question my rank if im on 2k hours, have worlds and avatars and im still user.

kindred glacier
#

soi when im using my xbox 360 controller it works fine

scarlet musk
#

blocked by the users you interact with and such, that might negatively impact your "rank".
As a rule, I play only with my friends and only in private worlds.
Wonder for me, how it works.. Over 2000 hours have never been blocked by someone.

earnest harbor
#

but the devs can't do anything to fix it

glossy wharf
#

Well if thats the case, you might simply not get enough interaction to rank up.

kindred glacier
#

or is there a way how i could remove axis on controller

earnest harbor
#

and no blocks eh? time to fix that issue smug

barren echo
#

Well they could. But it's rather complicated. Just tie ranks to playtime instead of arbitrary unlisted goals.

velvet quarry
#

People would just try idling in that case

glossy wharf
#

I think its good the way it is.

barren echo
#

That's the complicated bit, yeah.

glossy wharf
#

Multiple factors to determine your knowledge about the game and also your trust.

earnest harbor
#

if they could fix the bugs in the system I wouldn't have an issue

glossy wharf
#

imo good from them to keep it private, so people dont even bother finding exploits to go around the system.

barren echo
#

I feel like that already happens as is, but it would get worse if they just gave the direct list.

earnest harbor
#

but the fact that the devs can't even force an update on a player or set their rank is quite a problem

barren echo
#

Because theres definately a few trusted running around with only 10 hours played

glossy wharf
#

im pretty sure they can, but there is no reason for them to.

earnest harbor
#

nope, they can't

glossy wharf
#

And to avoid unnecessary spam in their mail inboxes they just say no bypassing.

#

Its their system of course they can change it.

zinc solar
#

sup scrubs

glossy wharf
#

Its the same way they can set their own dev tags and co, its all a permission based system.

velvet quarry
#

The way the API is set up, it seems very likely it could be manually set, but as mentioned, I believe they don't tend to make any exceptions.

earnest harbor
#

and them being presented proof that a particular user has a bugged rank, and them still denying that they can't change it themselves?

barren echo
#

Actually yeah, there really shouldn't be anything stopping them, and if there is I think that would be something pushed to priority list but they have enough on their plate as is.

glossy wharf
#

BEcause they dont give support on something that doesnt affect gameplay

#

anything from new user up is none of their concerns.

earnest harbor
#

like game security? lul

glossy wharf
#

How does it affect security of the game.

earnest harbor
#

it's unrelated

glossy wharf
#

Exactly.

earnest harbor
#

but they don't care about the games security either

glossy wharf
#

Yeah they totally do not care about the games security by adding particle limiters and the option to hide avatars and certain features of avatars /s

#

also removing the direct links to shit in the avatars info.

barren echo
#

honestly I didn't get into VRchat until a week ago when I realized it'd finally been officially supported for Occulus and I'd never heard of the ranks until I logged in.

scarlet musk
#

I've heard also of interesting cases.
When people have a rank above the User (Trusted or another) in some worlds (where they often play), but when they change the world, they again Users..

pseudo basalt
#

It's more like they care about things that immediately affect players' reasoning to stop playing

velvet quarry
#

Sounds like the game was just failing to fetch the information properly from the API in that case.

glossy wharf
#

What pumkin says.

#

Stuff that needs immediate fixing and keeps the players in, the photon glitch is not as bad as it used to be and a lot less people are just logging others out.

earnest harbor
#

I'd argue that the fact that logout clients becoming increasingly more common and the amount of access those clients have are quite a big hole in the "security" of the game

pseudo basalt
#

If it doesn't make streamers stop streaming and people stop playing then a lot of these things can be avoided by going private

glossy wharf
#

Except the logout clients have gone down significantly in numbers.

earnest harbor
#

or even how incredibly easy it is to rip avatars

glossy wharf
#

"incredibly easy"

barren echo
#

It actually kind of is, which is why I don't really think making Avatars and Worlds should have anything to do with rank.

earnest harbor
#

you learn things when hanging out with the lower crouds on how broken vrchat is

kindred glacier
#

err is it possible to use multiple gamepads for vrchat?

pseudo basalt
#

You can usually take a screenshot of an avatar and go part hunting for 20 minutes and combine them just as fast with cats to get most avatars

rigid crescent
#

Wasn't there that whole reporting leak or waa thst a meme

glossy wharf
#

Its a game in alpha being developed by a small team

barren echo
#

Because theres nothing stopping me from uploading 30 different colored Knuckles and getting rep from it.

rigid crescent
#

Imo avatar ripping is a non issue in like 95% of all cases

glossy wharf
#

@barren echo mass spamming stuff like friend requests, content upload and co are not affecting rank.

earnest harbor
#

"alpha"

pseudo basalt
#

Stealing really doesn't seem like that much of an issue with how you're basically encouraged to share avatars anyway

earnest harbor
#

it's a working beta, stop giving it a misleading title

barren echo
#

Except they do. Thats literally what it says ingame.

twin jacinth
#

I've seen 1 avatar ripper in over a year, i don't think it's a big problem tbh..

rigid crescent
#

Stole assets being stolen from stealers of said stolen assets.

#

Most ripped avatars aren't true customs anyway

twin jacinth
#

^

glossy wharf
#

with how we switch unity versions its definitely not a beta

#

The game is not final in any of its content, its definitely not a beta.

earnest harbor
#

you also can't really play an alpha either

pseudo basalt
#

Forever in early access

glossy wharf
#

Except you can

#

Alpha versions usually introduce new content while betas polish existing content.

barren echo
#

@glossy wharf "Trust Rank
A user’s Trust feeds into something we’ve called a “Trust Rank”, which is an indicator of how much time a user has spent in VRChat, how much content they’ve contributed, the friends they’ve made, and many other factors."
Right from the website itself. So yes, spamming all of those would boost your rank.

pseudo basalt
#

It depends on developers

earnest harbor
#

and if a game gets a dlc is that then back to being an alpha? 🤔

pseudo basalt
#

Alpha usually implies early prototype

barren echo
#

Not to say you should, but you can.

glossy wharf
#

@barren echo it was confirmed by the devs here that spamming stuff does not increase shit, the system detects it.

#

@earnest harbor no because thats expansion on the finished main product.

barren echo
#

The system is also held together by ducttape and prayers so I'd take that with a grain of salt.

earnest harbor
#

it's unity with a ui

glossy wharf
#

What a great analogy.

#

The engine is not the finished main product though.

earnest harbor
#

I honestly wonder if the upgrade to 2017 was even worth it

pseudo basalt
#

It's a live service type game, so I feel like arguing semantics is kinda pointless because things tend to change in these types of games all the time

earnest harbor
#

given that the performance we gained was entirely lost after avatar info was launched

glossy wharf
#

For hanging out with lower crowds you lack a lot of knowledge dont you.

twin jacinth
#

Performance was not lost...
da fuq

glossy wharf
#

2017 moved voip to its own thread already decreasing performance loss drastically.

#

weird that most users reported a gain of performance and a smoother feel ingame.

earnest harbor
#

yeah, then everything slowed after info

glossy wharf
#

No?

earnest harbor
#

worlds taking longer to load into, players avatars taking darastically longer to load in

glossy wharf
#

There was a hitch when they introduced ik synching and calculations being clientside.

#

Worlds are loading fine for me and same for avatars?

barren echo
#

I get some stuttering here or there but thats all my systems fault and not the game. And it used to not run at all thanks to Steam forcing their overlay over Occulus's so I'd have to say its way better.

earnest harbor
#

it's not as bad as initial info, but it's not much better and far worse than pre 2017 update

covert linden
#

I gained preformance on my potati

pseudo basalt
#

Avatars take longer to load but you don't get loading screens nearly as often when they do

glossy wharf
#

They introduced network limiting, so if your net is shit you will get kicked or loading looped.

earnest harbor
#

black screens becoming an increasing issue

glossy wharf
#

Black screens are a network issue on the client

#

mostly ocurring on people with shit net or high pings.

barren echo
#

Thats actually the one issue I have with the game is that I just never get some avatars to load even at 100%

earnest harbor
#

odd how I have 150mb down and get black screened on occasion 🤔

glossy wharf
#

DOesnt matter if ur ping is bad in said lobby

#

Just because you have fast internet doesnt mean your ping has to be good on every instance.

covert linden
#

Why do pings get bad in some instances?

earnest harbor
#

sure, but hopping worlds with the same group of 3 others?

olive mulch
#

ping depends on the range of you to the server

earnest harbor
#

two of us get black screens and have to relaunch

covert linden
#

I jump from pings of 50 and 150 depending on the instance

barren echo
#

Doesn't VRchat do player hosting and not serverside?

glossy wharf
#

Pretty sure theres a host of a world being chosen.

#

that synchs some data.

earnest harbor
#

even if it was player hosted it would've been one of the two of us who load quick

velvet quarry
#

Server hosting is done server-side, but a specific client usually handles synchronizing the physics calculations'n such, the "Master" of the instance so to speak.

glossy wharf
#

There you go

#

so once again, it depends on your ping.

#

So you talking about friends proves nothing.

#

Actually just shows you dont understand what we are telling you.

barren echo
#

Well not really. If you're in the US and connect to a world master in Russia with his dial-up potato your good internet means nothing.

glossy wharf
#

^

#

Exactly this

kindred glacier
#

dunno how but fixed my dancepad for vrchat

covert linden
#

That explains why my ping is all over the place then

glossy wharf
#

theres a ton of things that can influence your ping

#

nodes you are being routed through, hosts position and co.

barren echo
#

I don't think the game prioritizes connection when you join worlds.

#

Just player count and number of instances

glossy wharf
#

The game will black screen you if you have too bad of a connection.

#

Loading loops also happen mostly on people with satellite internet.

#

So there has been at least some form of network limiting introduced

#

most likely with the planned ik change, where the client handles cal and then synchs it with others.

barren echo
#

I haven't had either of that happen yet thankfully. Though I have had some worlds take like 10 minutes to download.

It should be active stuff, not total stuff. If the base version that I see active only has 20k poly’s, 2 materials, 10 dyn bones, and nothing else, that’s what I want to rate it on. I don’t care about crazy animations that are 500k polys, 80 materials, 20 dyn bones, 30 animators..

#

Any “super unoptimized” avatar is more than likely a good meme avatar.

safe marsh
#

all it takes is 4 db to be poor.

#

if im right, so have fun reporting everyone lol

umbral oracle
#

4 db scripts and 16 db components is most you can have for good. More puts you in medium. Db colliders are what put you in poor and for good reason: a single avatar with 2500 collidion checks was able to drop me from 45 to 30fps today.

safe marsh
#

i'm yet to have a single avatar drop my performance to the point id feel the need to be mad

#

i think my actual one has like 600collision checks

umbral oracle
#

Oh you haven't seen 10000 vertex cloths yet I take it.

#

600 collision checks is pushing it. You might not notice a few frames less than normal

safe marsh
#

i optmize what i can but i like to look at some parts and feel they are natural

glossy wharf
#

@umbral oracle You cant generalize like that at all.

safe marsh
#

Hair is a big problem for this...ive allrdy shorten my hair to be a bit more optimized, but still :/

glossy wharf
#

A dyn bone collider that affects only two breast bones for example has 4 collision checks and throws you down

umbral oracle
#

4 is way less than 2500

#

I agree 4 checks shouldn't be considered poor but sadly is in the current system

safe marsh
#

literally the only reason my avatars are very poor is because of the hair ... in total i never go above 13 DB and 11 colliders..

umbral oracle
#

If I had to guess, the idea is to try to get people used to solutions that do not require any colliders to work

safe marsh
#

everything else is Green lol

#

Like what Lyuma

umbral oracle
#

Ya it doesn't reward people at all for moderation. You put all this work in and it looks the same as the guy with 2500

#

And it looks much worse / isn't interactive. Interactive elements are very important for a full vr experience

woven steppe
#

need to have a system that turns physics calculations off when your frames drop too low

umbral oracle
#

So it's arguably harmful to the platform to discourage dynamic bone colliders from being used at all by putting you instantly in poor

#

Anyway this was literally the first iteration of the system before winter break. I think they know it's not perfect

#

It's had some immensely positive effects already at least for public world avatars

#

So just do what you think is right. As it is now, making avatars with very poor or poor ratings is often the right thing to do: including a snail pen or tasteful colliders on a model that needs it

woven steppe
#

I have one such system... It's me... I just manually turn off my wiggly things in populated areas...

umbral oracle
#

However now you have a way to evaluate it yourself so you know if you put a few hundred extra collision checks

safe marsh
#

True on that

#

i can actually know where to optimize a bit more if i need to where i feel confortable

#

i just think its rly disencouraging to even care doing it for some, like all my stuff on point, all green, even poly count im usually under 40k ( 34k on my last )

#

but because of the db i'm put in the same cup as ppl with avatars that almost feel like they r made with the purpose to burn systems lol

rigid crescent
#

yup, thats how a lot feel

languid beacon
#

You can have 32 dynamic bones and 4 colliders without being poor. You just need to be smart with them as you only get 8 collision checks. Medium avatar with dynamic bones are totally reasable people just need to learn better ways of avoiding clipping. Colliders to avoid clipping is bad.

#

Dresses do not need 30 dynamic bones. Or even 8.

#

3 at most

#

It’s totally possible to get the same exact visual effect without these very poor rating, And you’ll get more frame rate as a bonus

#

Don’t you want more frames?!

tacit plank
#

To me, 5 or 20 doesn't make much difference. But avatars that has 4 digit dynamic bone transforms (and they're quite common) are doing something wrong for sure

#

Especially since merging bones is totally automatic in CATS. You can decimate, combine bones, combine similar materials, atlas, etc. In like 2 minutes. If you spend a week on your avatar, 2 minutes shouldn't be much to ask

prisma plover
#

Dynamic bone colliders are also taken in consideration I think.

languid beacon
#

They are, as well as the total collision check, which is the easiest to explode

#

I feel like these people with all-excellent-except-very-poor DB avatars think a weighted system is gonna give them good instead.. really all the small stuff being excellent would probably get them to medium if they are lucky but probably just get them out of very poor into poor.

#

All the weight will be out on db’s im sure

prisma plover
#

Yeah they probably think "My avatar is relatively low poly, has few materials, etc, so it counterbalance the 50 dynamic bones on my avatar".

median basalt

@rigid crescent changed in which way?

#

I think it's weird I can go from 33k to 70k polys with no change in rank

#

But god forbid I have a 2k poly mesh particle, 🅱ERY 🅱OOR

#

Current system doesn't really encourage people to optimize beyond what their rank already is. Sure I could optimize these dynamic bones, but I'm already ranked very poor because of my bounds or particles so there's no reason to bother

Is what a lot of people will think

prisma plover

They might need to tune the thing that evaluate avatars a little bit I guess.

Would be cool if there was a Mr. Meeseeks that actually had the puff animation when people changed into it

#

There are no Sunday meetups anymore. Community too big for them

lapis nebula

then what does CyanLaser stream ?

vocal shard

Just have a bunch of people rushing into publics as Mr. Meseeks

Like 10 people

@vocal shard I thought the sunday meetups was what cyanlaser streamed

but, under a new name of dev meetups

so, no more sunday socials, oh well, that explains that, thanks ruubick

well, it's pretty much the same thing by the looks of it

Interesting

The dev meetup has the goal of visiting mid creation worlds though, it's about feedback, not world hopping

i just got a vr headset does that make me a cool kid now

signal sequoia
#

Uh, I'm playing on WMR

#

Is there a way to enable first-person movement instead of the teleport?

#

Back then I remember you set it to classic, but the settings menu is different now

prisma plover
#

I think they call the teleport thing "Comfort 3rd person" while the regular direct movement thing... I don't remember the name.

opaque hawk
#

Turn off holoport

signal sequoia
#

I have it disabled (I think) I checked on desktop and it was disabled, yet I still remember it being disabled all the time. Let me check now

languid beacon
#

Yeah disable holoport to walk around it defaults on for first time in vr

#

Then when you are ready for smooth turning disable comfort turning but get some vr experience first

vocal shard
#

Hey

languid beacon
#

Smooth turning is pretty disorienting if you start out with it with little vr use but it becomes second nature with time

signal sequoia
#

okay

prisma plover
#

Personally I prefer having snap turning with teleport off. It's more a convenience thing because I know exactly how much I'm turning with each joystick input.

signal sequoia
#

Ye, that worked, ty,

languid beacon
#

Smooth turning was updated recently to no longer be frame rate based it’s much more reliable/stable/consistent

prisma plover
#

I shall test that out. 🤔

languid beacon
#

Some how it’s only with snap turning I always get my cable twisted

ruby burrow
#

Smooth is fairly important if you want to line up things correctly for FBT, though otherwise is all just fair preference.

prisma plover
#

Ah cause the body in FBT will snap to a certain degree if you have snap turn enabled ?

ruby burrow
#

The game 'Gun-Heart' has an interesting turning method, where rather than continuous rotation, you kind of rotate your thumb round the exterior of the trackpad to turn. (presumable same with stick)

languid beacon
#

I use fbt but I’m not sure how smooth helps but

ruby burrow
#

Meaning you can fairly precisely control how far and how fast you turn.

#

Want to do a fast 180, just slide round 180 of the pad.

languid beacon
#

Variable turning speed is too much for me

#

I’m not good with any kind of acceleration

ruby burrow
#

Oh, regarding FBT, I mean to line up stuff like your real bed/chair with in-game furniture and objects exactly. So you can do stuff like lounging off the side etc.

languid beacon
#

Even lucky tale camera is a little uncomfortable even after 500 hours of VRChat

prisma plover
#

@ruby burrow Ah right makes sense.

ruby burrow
#

Well it's not technically variable. It's just locked to how fast you move your thumb.

languid beacon
#

Ah dual analog sticks are second nature for me. Decades of gaming

ruby burrow
#

If you move it through a 90 degree rotation, you will always rotate exactly 90 degrees.

languid beacon
#

Oh no I wouldn’t like that

ruby burrow
#

You can stop and start, or slide it back as you please. Like rotating a disc or something.

#

I just thought it was cool to see a rather innovative turning method.

languid beacon
#

Oculus on VRChat with no holoport or comfort turning is pretty much how I wish every vr game was. Or had the option for. It’s perfect imho

#

Like, “it’s perfect don’t touch it” status

ruby burrow
#

Perfectly smooth and precise for small rotations, but also allows you to do fairly natural rapid full turns if you need.

#

Yeah, VRCs controls with comfort protection off is more or less what all games need to offer as standard.

#

The nervousness about "VR can only do teleport" are simply unrequired. Devs need to get more daring.

#

They should allow teleport motion if possible, without compromising on their game, but otherwise people have just gotta jump in and learn to swim.

languid beacon
#

I’m pretty sure there is no option to walk around in steamvr home and it’s ridiculous. I hate teleporting so much that I just never explore in it

stone current
#

rec room for example also u can only teleport

ruby burrow
#

And on top of those basic traditional controls, there's then room for an incredible variety of more advanced and VR tailored movement styles.
I really want to see it grow and be explored.

stone current
#

or at least in most worlds

languid beacon
#

You can walk in rec room if the world allows it and you enable it

stone current
#

but playing paintball standing still kinda annoying

languid beacon
#

Yeah games that disable it are pretty bad

ruby burrow
#

Steam VR has a testing world you can visit where you can walk, but only with the aid of a held testing gizmo.

stone current
languid beacon
#

Anyway. Right analog stick left/right for turning is perfect for me

stone current
#

i like snap turning imo

#

bc games like vrchat the constant turning is too slow for me

languid beacon
#

I force myself to get used to smooth because I hated my recorded footage

#

It was hard at first but I’m used to it now

ruby burrow
#

I like how certain games took the teleport thing and matched it to the theme of the game. Both Sairento and Gun Heart allow traditional sliding movement and rotation, but also make "teleport" motion a really fun a thematic part of the game.

stone current
#

yea it looks better for streaming and etc

torn nebula
#

I kinda want to add a rotation lock mode to openvr advanced setting playspace movement

stone current
#

but its more annoying to me

#

bc like it spins too slow sometimes and its a bit disorienting

ruby burrow
#

@stone current That's why I like Gun Hearts rotation method. Fast and responsive.

stone current
#

like if u wanna turn 180 and hit something thats coming at u its easier 2 do

torn nebula
#

Something that would fix the Y axis orientation of my controller for precise control

#

Plus walking in circles

ruby burrow
#

You know exactly how far you're going to turn, and can change your mind at any point.

stone current
#

yea some have a sensitivity setting

languid beacon
#

Vr turning is just a stop gap for me. Once headsets are wireless, I’ll disable turning altogether.

stone current
#

they already are techincally

#

theres also wire belts u can install

torn nebula
#

@languid beacon turning with wireless is still helpful, it lets you keep walking when you hit the playspace bounds

ruby burrow
#

Overly expensive and short battery life on wireless right now though. Very much something only for full enthusiasts or the wealthy.

stone current
#

yea if ur trying 2 walk somewhere w/o using movement controls

#

and ur at the edge of ur bounds

#

u cant go in that direction no more

ruby burrow
#

I just really love the "freedom of movement" feeling that certain VR titles can give.

stone current
#

theres also the fact that its just annoying sometimes to turn irl

#

like if people beside u are talking

#

u have 2 keep turning to face them

#

instead of just like rotaitng urself

torn nebula
#

Eh, I'll turn irl for that. Better immersion

ruby burrow
#

Once you get over any early days jelly legs, you can get to really feel like a ninja in a way no traditional game ever could.

stone current
#

yea but its tiring and annoying usually when ur not standed / seated

torn nebula
#

But sometimes you just want to keep walking with fbt, you know?

ruby burrow
#

Just need a small barn sized playspace and saccadic redirection for that. xD

tiny ginkgo
#

These trackers were made for walking

stone current
#

and karate kicks / pole dancing

#

or just dancing in general oof

languid beacon
#

90% of my fbt time is spent sitting on the floor

torn nebula
#

@ruby burrow or a way to lock the orientation of your controller so you can walk in circles and still be going forward...

languid beacon
#

Or floating in an invisible chair

stone current
#

lol just stand on ice problem solved

ruby burrow
#

Not many people have explored it, but anyone used the VR pogosticks in the Steam VR test world?

#

They're one of the most nausea creating movement styles possible, but also hilariously fun.

tiny ginkgo
#

It seems like most fbt I've met use it to sit down

stone current
#

i almost never sit down in vr

languid beacon
#

I really need to fix my avatar for fbt my view always goes in my chest when I lean back while sitting

stone current
#

i can stand and walk for a couple hours bc im always like moving myself around

tiny ginkgo
#

Me neither.. well never actually

ruby burrow
#

I mainly stand, but like to use FBT to either walk or lounge on any object the game world presents me with.

tiny ginkgo
#

I like watching videos of people in fbt dancing and be jealous

languid beacon
#

Thing is nass unless I sit or something no one ever notices I have fbt lol I must stand just like the leg ik

ruby burrow
#

It's like a challenge. I see a strange object, and I'll try to find a way to sit on it.

stone current
#

i feel like a lot of my friends just use it to sit on people who dont have stations

vocal shard
#

Unity 2019.3 beta has memory leak issues when editing animation files that are realtime.. it works but takes a while and uses up 17 gigs of ram 😮 lol.

stone current
#

i myself have fbt but i rarely use it just bc the kinect tracking is pretty poor in my room

ruby burrow
#

But seriously. As stupid as it sounds, we need a VR game with "pogostick" movement as a feature.

languid beacon
#

Oh yeah kinect is really a hassle

tiny ginkgo
#

Hehe Adeon I can see the problem

stone current
#

can u animate viewpoint

ruby burrow
#

It's awkward to start with, but has a really high skill ceiling.

tiny ginkgo
#

I would dance all the time if I had fbt

vocal shard
#

Pogostick.. you mean spring step?

stone current
#

if so u can just animate viewpoint and character root

prisma plover
#

I would dance all the time. If I knew how to dance. 😅

stone current
#

the only thing ive done with fbt is climb walls

languid beacon
#

I’d dance if I could dance

stone current
#

and kicked ppl literally

ruby burrow
#

My brother and I were going round the Steam test room together, doing pogo stick races, bouncing from wall to wall etc.

languid beacon
#

Also downstairs neighbor would hate me

tiny ginkgo
#

I only know how to dance some freestyle moves it's not like I'm a pro

stone current
#

u can probably make a map with pogo sticks

tiny ginkgo
#

I just love it and give it all I have

stone current
#

a station and the api

tiny ginkgo
#

It's so fun even in normal vr

stone current
#

do fortnite dances problem solved

tiny ginkgo
#

I've tried to practice the electric shuffle

#

No good without fbt

stone current
#

do rambunctious

ruby burrow
#

Maybe? I don't know enough about VRC's abilities with unity to know if it'd work the same.

stone current
tiny ginkgo
#

I just dance like a fangirl who finally met Daft Punk live or whatever ... It's uncontrolled chaos

ruby burrow
#

The way the pogo sticks worked in this test world, was that you held them with one hand, and any time the bottom touched something, it would apply force in the reverse direction launching you.

vocal shard
#

Once all VR headsets can tell when people blink, there needs to be a "Weeping Angel" mode, where you appear like a statue until everyone blinks and you teleport to them.

tiny ginkgo
#

Ha that is not bad actually.

stone current
#

i know like 3 people who are like an actual dance group and all of them have full body

#

they were like an asian dance group so i had no idea wat they were called

tiny ginkgo
#

That sounds super fun Wulfe

vocal shard
#

Oh i have a Fps controller for standalone that has that exact movement.. i just used to oculus sdk on it and used oculus centre camera in replacement of players main camera and left/right eye.. works perfect and spring step i made with head bob and set main floor to slight bounce and changed physics time to faster when it comes to bounce.. so that every step is a bounce there is no miss.

stone current
#

but they would like practice dances from MMDs and stuff

ruby burrow
#

Your view point wasn't oriented with the stick, but it could move you in all directions, not just up.

stone current
#

and one time they like performed on mmd stage or something

ruby burrow
#

So you tilt it and kinda bounce your hand, and you'd build momentum forward.

#

If you slam the stick down hard, you'd get a bigger jump. The speed of your fall would also factor into this, meaning you could build some huge speed and height if you timed bounces right.

vocal shard
#

Oh so items that just apply force.. bit of a simple concept

tiny ginkgo
#

I had a guy the other day come up the me after I improvised something to the music be like "shit I thought it was an animation". I blushed so hard

#

But some of the good dancers .. they just know what they are doing

#

It's so impressive

torn nebula
#

It's not hard to tell if it's an animation, just look for pauses when there's packet loss or jitter :)

ruby burrow
#

One fun thing was that you could dual wield the pogo sticks.

tiny ginkgo
#

Heehee yea bd

#

Maybe he was just being nice

#

I'll take it

ruby burrow
#

You could kind of fling yourself around a map, slamming these sticks into the walls and flying off like a pogo ninja.

tiny ginkgo
ruby burrow
#

Was like a goofy alternative "Attack on Titan" kind of thing.

#

Pogo spiderman. A game needs to do it.

vocal shard
#

Well squishy i have the exact same fps controller as what we use to wall bounce in unreal tournament ut99/ut2k4 i mean combined with friction on walls you have ut.. its fun if your up for making BT maps i guess.. but its not like i can modify the standard controller that vrchat uses.. if i could i would add the very basics atleast like footstep sounds for one.. i mean you could apply step based on foots pos on tile that works too but its a hit/miss situation and loops sounds like shit 😄

ruby burrow
#

I also want to see grapple hook/spider man style swinging motion in VR.

vocal shard
#

There's an old demo that someone made not long ago that has that movement but spider man more like it uses elastic and attaches a bone to where you point and then when you jump it pulls you in..

#

like you can swing rope to rope from building block to building block

#

i still have it

ruby burrow
#

It's another thing the Steam test world had, that was great fun to combine with the other movement gadgets like the pogos and jetpacks.

vocal shard
#

Want the name of it so you can download it? it wont dissapoint

#

not good if you dont like heights 😄

ruby burrow
#

You mean in VRC Omega?

vocal shard
#

nah its a demo that can easily be applied on vrc.. but nobody has made it yet

ruby burrow
#

Ah

vocal shard
#

i saw it ages back and i havent bothered.. im doing my park so im to busy

#

i played it though and screamed if that helps.. its very immersive

ruby burrow
#

Haha

#

I know one guy who has built a test world inside VRC, with working Legend of Zelda style hookshots.
But unfortunately they just pull you in a rigid straight line. No swinging or momentum physics.

#

Which is the important part, or else it's basically just themed teleportation.

vocal shard
#

Yeah i went there when it was made in dev meetup.

#

but sorry to say this one is alot better although he did a dam good job still

#

yeah.. they need bones

ruby burrow
#

I'll pass on it, since it's probably at a bit more technical than I'd be good with right now. But thanks for the offer.

vocal shard
#

and muscle*

#

ah its just a steam game man.. i just got in it to play with it and stuff.. its got other games like 20 of them all just scenes really

#

Gondalla on a skyscrapper is not good if you dont like heights thats one of many

#

I know eastes the guy who created richies plank experince i chat to him on steam some.. his concept was great and totally original he did a dam fine job of giving people that fear 😛

safe marsh
#

man everyday im more in love with this game, id srsly kiss in the mouth whoever did the silent hill 2 hotel map, legit just fulfilled a childhood wish to experience it as if i waas actually there

#

😐

vocal shard
#

i used to know who did that map.. but i dont think their other half would enjoy the competition lol

safe marsh
#

never had such goosebumps in my life like rite now

vocal shard
#

haha

safe marsh
#

i swear

vocal shard
#

proper lightweight 😄

safe marsh
#

theres a tear in my eye god damn it 😂

vocal shard
#

Well.. i feel like that when i create maps.. but not so much when i play on them others like ports.. but i guess even if it takes effort for me its not good enough no matter what i do

#

think its because its just a port and all we do is colliders on meshes and triggers etc.. feels like a total rip.. real effort comes from designing as you remember from your own mind.

safe marsh
#

hm

#

well now im tempted to find out if theres more stuff like this, im baffled at how i never remembered to search maps like this

vocal shard
#

Well i had the Half life 1 map but i never kept the source so its dead and buried like most of what i created.. but overall its easy to do .. in place of loading times as a mesh is split you just merge sections of mesh together.. and that's all there is to it.

#

Colliders all over it.. though probably a good idea to use box in place of original mesh due to some meshes simply not responding to well in vrchat.. and thats it then just set up door triggers.. use door animations and whatnot npc's.. and it builds itself really takes alot of work depending on the map being made really.. black mesa took me about 3 weeks from what i recall

lapis nebula
#

A resident evil map would be pretty damn awesome tbh

vocal shard
#

Already been done the police station.. and can be actually made to be more than just a mesh with colliders.. but takes time as usual

#

thing is needs to be connected from room to room and the dumps usually contain individual meshes so you'd have to have a map of it in your head or an image to follow in order to build it accuratly

#

Probably easier to use dumps from the nintendo gamecube rather than use old ps1 for the mansion as the quality would be quite aweful

stone current
worn jacinth
#

I have no idea where to ask this. Does the oculus DK2 work with vrchat? Anyone have experience with that?

lapis nebula
#

yes

worn jacinth
#

Even if I don't have any hand tracking?

opaque hawk
#

Yes

lapis nebula
#

yup

#

it uses xbox controller

worn jacinth
#

thank you guys!

lapis nebula
#

@worn jacinth I used to use the DK2 three years ago for vrchat, so, it works fine, but, expect migraines, lol

worn jacinth
#

I dont suppose there are some cheap hand trackers I could get somehow...?

lapis nebula
#

nope, but, there is the Leap thing

#

forgotten it's exact name

worn jacinth
#

leap motion works with vrchat?!

lapis nebula
#

yup

vocal shard
#

leap motion isnt very well supported.

worn jacinth
#

ive never seen someone move their fingers though

lapis nebula
#

true, but, it works, ish

vocal shard
#

i still have 3 of them.. i used them on the dk2 years ago

lapis nebula
#

just save your pennies and get a cv1, much better

floral aspen
#

thats because vrchat doesn't support full finger tracking

torn nebula
#

Maybe that'll change with knuckles

worn jacinth
#

ah so just the hands and arms would move

floral aspen
#

right

worn jacinth
#

@vocal shard would you be willing to sell me one of your leap motions 👀

floral aspen
#

they'd most likely have to overhaul the gesture system to get full finger tracking working

vocal shard
#

what? there's loads of ebay second hand lol

torn nebula
#

@floral aspen possibly, but it'd be worth it to have an easier way of triggering facial expressions

vocal shard
#

all you need is a longer usb cable and your set for life.. its default grey one is way to short

torn nebula
#

Or to have more than seven at a time

languid beacon
#

I finger tracking will most likely happen with knuckle controller support update but don’t count on any other device working unless it uses knuckle’s same api

floral aspen
#

or have separate gestures for each hand

languid beacon
#

Iirc knuckle controllers in vrc are still just gesture based on the standard 8 vrc hand poses. At it was least initially and I don’t know if that is planned to change

torn nebula
#

Initially I'd imagine that to be the case yeah

languid beacon
#

That’s currently what touch does, each touch gesture is just approximating your hand

worn jacinth
#

the leap motions on ebay are way more expensive than the ones on amazon lol

vocal shard
#

Depends where your from then..

languid beacon
#

Except rockout which everyone knows is approximating flipping people off

worn jacinth
#

still about a hundred bucks though ;-;

vocal shard
#

what? how on earth did it go up that much?

#

was cheap as chips when i bought it a few years ago

torn nebula
#

Huh. Leap motion is less expensive than I would have thought

stoic trellis
#

rip servers?

worn jacinth
#

I guess because theyve been updating software a lot

#

tracking is twice as better as it used to be

vocal shard
#

Yeah.. support for its interface maybe so you can download its addons.. but tell me how many titles have been made supporting it?

#

not many to my knowledge..

worn jacinth
#

id only use it for vrchat tbh haha

vocal shard
#

I use it to track distortions

#

things that most wouldn't use it for.. simply because it likes to map skeletal figures like hands and such behind me where none are.. always noises round here since im deep in the countryside.. land holds alot of history and shit happens.. so i was just using it to research really.. i have a friend who uses the same setup that actually reaches his hand out to these.. "things" and they reach out on command and touch his hand.. of course make of that what you will.. but infa red has always been a good way to pick up things that are not always seen.

worn jacinth
#

interesting

vocal shard
#

Yeah well.. it doesnt only track our hands i mean its well known to map parts that do not exist thats how the spooky side got started initially.. apps on phones were picking up fully mapped figures standing behind people and such

worn jacinth
#

uh huh

#

id still like to buy one of them from you if youre willing to sell it. 100 bucks is a bit much for using it just for 1 game

torn nebula
#

You say that when FBT costs $300... thonking

worn jacinth
#

fbt?

torn nebula
#

Full body tracking

vocal shard
#

i would severe but im using them instead or in place of the kinect to track things that shouldn't be in our space 😛

worn jacinth
#

ah np

#

also damn 300...

opaque hawk
#

I’m so glad I got my dell headset for sub $300

#

I somewhat wish I got the Vive just so I wouldn’t have to spend so much for FBT

stone current
opaque hawk
#

It definitely looks nice

languid beacon

Eh I have hybrid (oculus + vive) and I consider the finger tracking on oculus touch to be more than worth extra money spent. Do not underestimate how bad vive wands are

Knuckle controllers cannot come soon enough

green sorrel
#

when it comes out i wanna buy that new oculus thing that detects your hands without controllers

languid beacon
#

Erm. Their new headset doesn’t have that

meager solstice
#

yeah that'll be like 4 years from now @green sorrel ..... maybe longer

languid beacon
#

If you are referring to Oculus Quest anyway

#

It has regular controllers

green sorrel
languid beacon
#

I’m not too sold on fingerless tracking. I need my analog sticks for games

#

That stuff is not going to be in Oculus’s next headset, @green sorrel

#

Next up is Oculus Quest. The stuff you linked is like half a decade from now

#

I was gonna get one on release but now with Vive Cosmos announced I’m not sure which I’ll get

green sorrel
#

i recently bought a brand new 1070 ti for my pc so i could run stuff better

my 1050 was ok but eh

vernal shuttle
#

Guys, That game is lagging me the game of VRChat for low FPS too many players and he tells me he does not answer and then they took me out of the game because of the waiting time. They help me?

You can't exactly control how many players are in a map instance

vernal shuttle
#

32 Players on Spanish 2 for lagging me

queen mango
#

That the total number of players in the map?

vernal shuttle
#

it said 53 Players

queen mango
#

Seems problematic. Maps aren't known for holding strict limits on the maximum playercount..
What's the maximum number of players available in that world?

58 Players on the map Spanish 2
