If you are importing of FBX, make sure you do not pack in the textures with the FBX file, since they will be uploaded to VR chat but not used since the textures get uploaded separately if you pack them you will have textures in the upload package twice

If you can atlas and merge your materials down you should but I definitely understand there's a lot of cases where you might not want to or you simply can't. Do check out the new auto atlasing though, it does a good job of letting you recolour or edit the textures after the fact.

Yeah, atlasing is what can get you into the 1-3 territory. At that point you're limited only by the number of different shaders you want to use on one avi.
