Maybe my loud Rift volume is due to using an external soundcard as "main" audio device. Which has its own volume control on it, so its volume input is set at 100%. Would make sense since the rift sounds loud at 1 %, the complete opposite. 🤔

@vocal shard @rough pulsar Haven't seen any shaders loaded from 5.6 avatars that were outright broken in 2017. The extent of shader issues I observed there is incorrect lighting. The worst I saw is my avatar with Reflex Shader turned completely black in 2017 aside from emission (but looks fine after reupload). Xiexe's shader and a few had something that looked a bit like inverted normals from some directions (like a split along x=0), though still usable. Of course reupload fixes all of the issues.

I think the claim @vocal shard made is related to compile errors after importing to unity 2017. Probably not widespread, but one of the shaders I wrote that depended on a particular unity #define's in the shadowcaster pass needed a small edit to fix a build error. I also had a shader whose editor script had a compile error, but editor scripts are mostly not required so I just deleted the .cs file and went on my way.

I actually still know very little about how the SH9 works under the hood but that's interesting. So anything with ShadeSH9 might have lighting that's a bit off

and that's just until repload. Also I was struggling yesterday with the same types of issues error had with reading values from a render texture in a geom shader. Super weird. I'm still trying to debug what's going on there. but that's one of the things I had that broke after importing to 2017

When i imported 2017 i had zero issues.. but then again not a shader or an avatar guy.. go figure haha

my GPU particles and camera stuff still work fine

mesh and geometry stuff too

but scrn's gpu particles broke, dunno why yet

Also I use Mac OpenGL 4.1 so I haven't confirmed if they are actually broken ingame. For example, AlphaToMask (xsfur uses it) broke on Mac in unity 2017 but works fine ingame.

oh haha don't get me started with that. I have a patch for a shader to fix mac compat: It's basically commenting out two lines and recomputing something that was computed earlier.

Metal is ok but doesn't support geom shaders, so I'm forced to use opengl 4.1 for a lot of my stuff. seems very poorly supported though. But worth it to have my entire unity dev environment on a laptop :-p
