Or 8k textures. When I had 8 GB of RAM, I was crashing a lot because I simply ran out of memory.

it's also used to keep the ram defragmented so if any app slides around the corner and wants 5gb of continuous ram it can get it because windows can put that into virtual space

so the app would see like 25gb ram and can get any area of that

without the swapfile activated you won't get the big numbers of virtual memory

windows can internally have apps refer to ram that is outside the bounds of your actual ram but still inside that ram because it can swap (HENCE THE TERM SWAP) that space around virtually
