mainly for higher resolution, i have used my sisters normal vive, and its blury, even after she measured my pupils, i heard there was another way to move the lenses, but we couldnt find it in the manual, also, i have glasses, and usually take them off so i dont scratch the lens, but i can see my phone and computer up close without the need for glasses, so...

But Mic's right. Pull the grey rings at the side of the vive outwards, then you can turn them to pull the display in closer, or push it further for more space for glasses. Then you push them back in to lock it in place.

The Vive Pro has the same thing, except it's a button you push in and hold at the bottom left of the HMD and you just push/pull it in and out.

I think you will need your glasses. Afaik things in current VR headsets are focused to infinity so it's as if everything in game is very far away, even objects you hold up close to your headset.

Best way to check if you need glasses in VR is if you need your glasses IRL for distances over about 20 meters, you'll probably want them in VR.

Well its as 'easy' as replacing a battery ina modern phone

once you got the tools its 'easy'

Basically, each vive has a mostly unique calibration file on the HMD itself to account for minor variance in lens manufacturing. Swapping the lenses out requires altering this calibration for the new lenses. It's not easy.

My VRChat was doing some funky things last night. I got disconnect twice with a black screen, which I had to log back into my account each time it happened. I crashed another time after that, but didn’t have to log back in. Then it started repeatedly taking screenshots even though I wasn’t touching anything, and now today I have to install SteamVR like it’s the first time, but of course I’ve been using it for awhile

My system hard crashed all of a sudden, I restarted and the game was no longer listen in Steam (despite being in my game folder) and my outputlog was just kilobytes of null characters.
My guess is that the client code or memory got corrupted somehow...
It happened when I used my macro, which will start to write weird strings which looks like code if I tell it to write fast enough (like, 500 a's per second)

Oh god, I only suffer discomfort of having the headset on my head, I'd potentially see a doctor for those symptoms but on your question, atleast on my rift, I can leave it on my head, do stuff on my computer and then slide it down and see within the vr, to not put it on completely I'd have to adjust the straps to allow for max slack

You can adjust supersampling in the Steam settings, or change graphics to low when launching (hold ctrl or shift when launching, I can't remember which)
But if you're lagging, it's much more likely that your CPU is the limiting factor and not the GPU (graphics card). Unless maybe you're below the minimum specs (Gtx 970 or similar card)
Not much to do about it but getting an i7 with good clock speed (4GHz+)

I feel it's highly unlikely the Oculus Quest would be able to handle VR-Chat regardless of the devs intent, due to it's limited processing power.

The only way VR-Chat could work on Quest, would probably be a standalone version without any user submitted avatars or worlds.

I can see some viability for standalone VR. I just feel it's misleading to try and market it as being comparable to regular VR, with full tracking quality and external computing.

My favourite trick with my Vive to demonstrate the tracking to new visitors, is to boot them up without giving them the controllers at first, and then throw them to them from across the room.

Camera based tracking is never going to be that good.

The thing I'm still wondering, regarding weight and comfort, is how come none of the main desktop based headsets are using the forehead resting design that the PSVR uses.

I've not used a PSVR, but I've heard that despite being the heaviest it's said to be one of the most comfortable.

And looking at it, it makes sense to me.

Most if not all the WMR headsets use the 'halo' strap like the PSVR. And I agree, it is comfortable.

I feel like they'd surely have good reason for it, but I can't think of one.

LG showed off a lighthouse-based HMD a while back that used that design. They've been very silent on it for a while too so who knows what's going on with it.

I do enjoy sending off decent reports on crashers and thieves, but nah, nothing special. I don't go around as an active vigilante or anything.

Was just rather grumpy in the past months, how the abundance of crashers and thieves was actually driving my friends away from the game.

They'd refuse to join public instances, wouldn't use their favourite avatars, or would say things along the lines of, "I'll probably come back to the game in a few months, when the crashers have been fixed."
