If it's any consolation the way the whole thing is calculated is deeply flawed, since during the first beta there were a number of insanely long-time VRC users (we're talking 4 years consistently active) who didn't have the highest rank until it got retuned.

@umbral reef I think a key difference is with the old VR Vs Desktop thing is that there was no way to restrict all desktop users by their category alone, which meant you had to deal with each one on an indvidual basis.
Is this user a desktop user? Are they a problem? How are they a problem? Do I need to mute them? Do I need to block them? etc etc

With ranks you can block an entire subset of users with almost no decision making in the whole process.
"I don't like user X of Y rank, so if I block all users of Y type then that should make things better."

I have a keyboard and i'm really happy about it.
