I have 15 particle systems on one of my avatars but it isn't ever gonna be emmitting more than 800ish particles at once so im not sure why some people cant just tone back their effects a bit

Can't say I have @cedar zephyr . My game is loading fine. Only takes a few seconds to arrive at my homeroom.
And at lelkun, that can happen anywhere. Crash guns don't really care what world you're in. Most are designed in a way that they'll overwhelm even a super computer.
The lag free box is nothing more than a map with near zero performance costs of its own. If people load in with laggy avatars anyway, it makes very little difference. It doesn't do anything to reduce other sources of lag.

Most worlds I can walk around looking anywhere and get 90+ frames. Add a single other avatar, and I can drop to 45 when looking at them.
Yeah, worlds can be poorly optimised or buggy, same as any avatar. I visited this rather nice snow theme world last night, which was spoiled by some weird global shader or other effect, that was causing brief frame drops every two seconds, like clockwork.
But there's a 1000 perfectly good alternatives to standing around in a bland featureless box.

The resolution also seemed really strange on that map, like it had been forcibly downscaled. Although that might have been my GPU trying to compensate.
I ended up giving myself a headache staying there, since some fun people were hanging around it at the time. Had to get out of the game afterwards.
On a side note. I want to mention something that's been bothering me lately.
The odd culture of volume adjustment going on in this game. I don't quite understand it.
Like obviously, I get the basic gist, that sometimes things are too loud, hence you turn it down etc. But....
Basically, I keep meeting people who say they keep the worlds volume set down at values like 25 or 35% as standard.
That'd be fine, if it weren't for the fact that they're balancing the audio in their own worlds around those values, meaning that the background music for example is three to four times the comfortable volume for the default setting.

Yeah, volume isn't very consistent. I think the best approach is to balance it around either 100% or 70%.

I'm just seeing what seems like a strange sort of downwards spiral, of getting ever closer to 1% volume because people can't hear how loud their own worlds are, and thus encouraging more people to turn theirs down.
And it also leads to more minor side effects, such as a friend who keeps his as low as 20%, couldn't hear the music at all in softer worlds.
I have to assume they miss a lot, without realising it's even there.

Best weapon against crashers isn't forcing them to spend 2 minutes rebooting the game, it's emailing a good video capture and log, removing that behaviour from the game entirely.
@pale anvil If you can play the game, and are just saying you got banned from uploading avatars/worlds, then simply wait out the ban and don't do anything that will get you blocked or reported.

In VRC we have no filter to an extend. It brings out your inner you as you can do what you want (within ToS) and if you dont like someone you can just block em. I think VRC is a great place to explore everything about your own and others minds you can. See new views and sides. and both good and bad, the community is both wonderful and gloriously messy. Just how i like it.

Yeah drop in framerate can happen when an avatar is loading. Massive lag can be a symptom of having too many avatars that aren't optimized correctly around (like they have 26 different materials) or... PC needs an upgrade.

They will find a way. Maybe stricter rules for uploading models such as limiting the number of materials and scripts allowed per avatar. Do note however that the dev team doesn't list everything they are working on, so we can't be sure what they are doing.

I mean, there are already limits on things like poly counts for models, higher poly counts = higher lag. However, most people who upload models find ways around it and therefore are able to cause a lot of lag, perhaps without realising it

0 up to 65k(ish) poly = 1 drawcall, now compare that to materials where its 1 drawcall per material. Most models in vrchat are mmd models without combined materials or haven't been atlased
on average most mmd models can have from 10-20 materials
lag is generally from materials, not poly count
I personally believe the poly count should be raised but not before some sort of limit on materials is put in place
