Both are great, whichever one you get you will really enjoy
But, these were my thoughts:
Benefits of vive:
-easier integration with future SteamVR hardware
-Arguably better business practices
-Wider FoV
-In theory the max roomscale you can do with it is bigger than oculus, but to be honest I had a MASSIVE playspace and both systems worked indestinguishably from eachother so I would completely ignore that. Not to mention that the vast majority of games are designed for standing/small areas anyway cause not everyone has a big open space to use VR
Benefits of Oculus:
-Much clearer display with noticeably less SDE (at the cost of slightly reduced FoV)
-No noticeable blur or ghosting around edge of view, whereas this is quite bad on the vive
-Hoooly f**k so much more comfortable, even than the vive deluxe strap
-Included headphones are so goddamn nice
-Touch controllers are lightyears ahead of the vive controllers. Vive controllers feel like just that, fat, clunky controllers. Whereas oculus touch it just feels like using your hands.
Im sure knuckles will be better than either of them, but for now they aren't here so don't count those.
-Much cheaper. You can buy an oculus, an extra sensor, a bunch of games and still have money left over vs the cost of a vive
-A lot of the best games imo (lone echo, echo arena, robo recall, arktika) are oculus exclusive. Yeah oculus may have some "walled garden" aspects but the extra cash has gone to funding the development of amazing games that otherwise wouldn't exist
-Oculus dash is amazing. You can open up your desktop, grab and pull out a window and position it in VR space. You can literally be flying in elite dangerous and have a netflix window open in your cockpit. Or have your twitch chat or discord up in the game while you play/stream

Both headsets are amazing pieces of kit, and I think the vive pro + knuckles will likely be the best option ONCE its out, but I dont know if the cost will justify it. Especially since you will need an insane PC to run that res.
For now, I would say oculus is the better product. I ended up selling my vive cause it just sat on the shelf gathering dust
But, its really good that there is fairly equal competition

Main thing is its so much more comfortable to use for longer periods of time, and the display is a lot nicer.
But as said, both are great.
I would reccomend the oculus (and would do even if they were the same price)

The problem is that VRChat is p2p based, not dedicated server
meaning you communicate with every other player, not to a specific server which then communicates to them
This means that you can modify traffic however you like.
Same reason why GTA V for example has so many weird hacks where people can teleport you or steal your money. Cause its p2p
Unless VRChat started using dedicated servers or implements an anticheat (which, to be honest just having VAC would likely be enough to combat the simple stuff that is going around) then there's not much that can be done
