does anyone have any advice on how to opperate the spout stream camera in the desktop version of VR chat? I'm trying to use it to film my quest 3 stand alone with my computer through parsec and recording to OBS

SPOUT is a output protocol you can enable on the stream camera

Once you do, you can grab the SPOUT buffer in OBS trough a SPOUT plugin.

It will be a direct view of what the camera can see

Your CPU is gonna be the main bottleneck (System ram could be better, but especially with that high of a VRAM ammount it shouldn't get much GPU load shifted at least)

Multithreading doesn't infinitely scale, and you want to avoid accessing multiple CCD's

so you want to use launch options to set the affinity of the game to the amount of cores / threads that equals a CCD for your CPU

Depends on your CPU.
Intel 12th gen and later that have mixed cores, windows 11 has a scheduler improvement that will become more and more important as time goes on. It's the reason windows 11 exists and why 10 is being pushed out.
If you don't have a big.LITTLE type cpu, not much difference.
If you have an Intel Meteor lake with three core tiers, you're wasting most of the CPU running windows 10.

also weird how this big expensive GPU upgrade almost (3090) gives no performance boost, more like less than my 1080 Ti sometimes...

and minus the issue I thought the new VRC performance update would really benefit me with 24GB of VRAM but havent noticed it. maybe it's blocked by whatever crap is going on now.

What kinda CPU are you using, in terms of core count and clock speed? VRC is very CPU intensive and often times people upgrade their GPU thinking that’s what they need when the CPU is what’s really in trouble.

You plug the usb c side of the cable into the quest, and the regular usb port into your pc. It doesn’t connect to your gpu

The cv1 also still works fine in vrchat, since the controller inputs are still the same on quest 3 touch controllers

technically, PCI Express 4.0 use 20Gbps, but your laptop only support USB3.2 single-lane means........if you choose RTX40xx for example, you may only get 50% of perf possibly.

My laptop with a ryzen 9 5900hs and a 6gb 3060 can run vrc at like 30fps with heavy safety settings. You just gotta look into optimization for your computers resource allocation and turn game settings down etc.

i think i remember finding it a few months ago while on this same distro but it had several folders for each month for the times each picture was taken and i cant find it anymore

As in, you have the router in your room at your place space, and use it's 5ghz network only for the quest, and ideally on a different channel than your main wifi. (Routers usually pick the best option it self)

Your main router stays the way it is, think about it more as just a Wifi point, than an actual router

It also works as a switch

So, you have 1 cable coming from your main router, into your VR router, and from the VR Router to the PC

So no need for 2 cables either.

The main important factors to watch our for for the dedicated rotuer are

5ghz wirless at least, and gigabit network porst

Some cheap routers only have 100mbits network ports.

Don't get those

But other than that, either should work just fine.

The best option would be a Wifi 6e router, that can do 6ghz as well.

Since Quest 3 can do 6ghz Wifi 6e

But 5ghz is just fine too for the most part (Unless you suffer from massive 5ghz overcrowding)

"Traditional" rendering obviously.

DLSS is so stupidly pushed for high end "More frames, more frames, more frames" but i don't care about more frame if those frames are of less quality due to basically running your game at lower rez and upscaling it.

DLSS for me is something that has an application, however that is on lower end xx30, xx50, maybe xx60 cards to be able to get decent gaming performance out of the much lower specced chips.

However, due to it being pushed as a "super duper feature" on the high end, it incentivises developers to just push out horribly optimisd games, cus they run well enough when run at low rez and upscaled.

It's also insane how NVIDIA does performance comparison with a "band-aid" feature, rather than actual calculative performance of the hardware.

DLSS is likely not gona work well with VRChat and the UGC content in a way that the lower rez really makes up enough performance to benefit a lot from it.

It does also consume additional VRAM which those lower end cards already struggle with.
You already have implementations to render at lower resolution and upscale too in the vr solutions. (Although not DLSS)
