Quite the opposite actually, using a Meta/Oculus Quest 2 with a link cable is a fairly significant upgrade compared to the Meta/Oculus Rift S.

Also if you upgrade you will have (almost) no screen door effect and no "rift mic". But if you have stick drift and want a cheap solution then wd40 electrical contact cleaner (very important that you use the correct kind) actually worked for me when my quest 1 had stick drift. Hey, I need a little help, my trackpads on my Index controllers have become movement and camera, basically imitating the analogue sticks. Also the gestures aren't working. i wouldn’t recommend upgrading if your only goal is vrc performance increases, if your using it for other games then sure

i can confirm, as i upgraded from a 3070 ti to a 3090 recently and while i was able to up resolution some more now, there really wasnt much of an fps increase

if you’re willing to drop 5 bucks on fpsvr you’ll be able to directly see ingame whats taking the most load

more often than not its usually the cpu

for comparison i run a 3090 with a 5950x and average 30-40 fps with all avatars shown in a public

goes down to 20 when people start joining off friends and the lobby goes over its normal maximum

you probably wont get that much more performance on vrc until either cpu’s increase in power dramatically or something improves on vrc’s end, whether it be avatar makers optimization or better core utilization(to clarify im not entirely sure which one is the bigger problem or if the latter is an issue at all, its disputed quite often and a clear answer is difficult to find)

This is not correct-- VRChat works fine with Virtual Desktop, but as Birb's screenshot points out, you have to run it via SteamVR, not via Oculus. Ah, nevermind. I guess that's probably what you're saying. I blame Meta's weird naming. "opening the game via quest not Steam" probably means "Using the Oculus PC app".

VD uses DLL injection to get around the Oculus PC app's limitations and DLL injection sets off EAC.

VD's developer states that the workaround is to install and use VRChat via SteamVR instead, which works fine.

I know it's a pain, but there's a few things you can try. Redownloading VRC on steam/rift store, etc.

When I was having issues with my quest 2 I factory reset it and a lot was solved but that doesn't mean the same will happen for you.

Plus when doing stuff like that you have to make sure you know all your logins and such so you don't lose games and stuff.
