How is VRChat on android going to manage app updates?

I know google play is REALLY slow with verification of app files, and it can take 2-3 days before anyone actually gets an update

I know some applications have their own "in-app" update system. When you launch the app it checks the API for the version, and if it's outdated it says "you need to update the app" and it updates itself.

I believe the alpha is great. I can tell when it updates because it removes from my phone home screen and goes into my games launcher.
I haven't crashed once-- granted I froze and stuttered at worst for fifteen seconds, but I don't crash like quest! (Galaxy s10e) Works better than quest with certain things, but I do hope controller compatibility will come out soon (Unless the devs updated it in the most recent update, before I could only run and jump, not interact with anything) :)

It is android, just like Quest, so you can only see Quest content (hardware limitation, VRChat can't realistically do anything about it without a monolithic amount of work).

Also, very poor avatars can not be shown on the android version, for now you can still use one yourself however (it is a known bug).

And I don't find it neat at all, because 95% of the features are something that will be introduced as "proprietary" pixel features, which google will never release to their public AOSP (Android Open Source Project) release, Android was supposed to be open source operating system but every year Google (aka Alphabet) keeps just taking more and more features away from the Open source variant and gatekeeping them. These people who maintain Lineage they are the only reason that Custom ROMs even exist because Google actually doesn't give a fuck, when AOSP releases it's nearly always broken out of box. And these independent developers have to figure out how to fix it.

What these people make fuss is the "proprietary" part which shouldn't run on your phone unless you own Google Pixel accordingly to Google themselves.

Yet another problem I didn't highlight, is indeed this. Manufacturers are preventing people from unlocking their phones or modifying them in any way or form. And even breaking licensing such as the GPL for Linux kernel and such. And this isn't because they'll get more money out of you if you are forced to buy a new phone when it doesn't get updates anymore or there are plenty of reasons, another one is "security" this boils down to the manufacturers not really wanting you to snoop around their system, etc... And this whole idea of locking the bootloader without ability to unlock it also goes against the principle of Android.

And if they do allow it, they'll radically disable some features which you need to use the phone.

Such as Safetynet, Google Play Integrity, Knox, Widevine, or even setting the bootloader unlock state as "unlocked" in the TEE which is essentially a piece of hardware that cannot be spoofed in any way or form.

Well I've set my system in a way, despite having unlocked bootloader, rooted device. And various other system level modifications such as LSPosed (Xposed framework) which tampers with a lot of applications. I'm completely undetectable.

Why? Because in the past we just had the wrong ways to hide these things. But we've figured out a way that even the most cutting edge root detection solutions can't simply find anything wrong.

Only thing that is detected from my system is these things:

• it's running LineageOS
• it has unlocked bootloader

And what are the root detections going to do? Nothing. Because they know that there is lot of people running custom ROMs.

But the amount of work I had to do to even get a usable system, it was not fun... I wish it was just that I would get a usable system out of the box without swallowing Google's 1000+€ price for their phones.

Since you're not really compiling the game but rather a bundle that just contains assets like shaders and models and such.

You can still easily upload very poor to quest. Most avatars are they're just hidden by default on quest. But in the mobile version they're outright unable to load them now which sucks
