#How to set Paddles as Mods
52 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Navigate to game page and select the controller icon to access the controller settings for WoW.
[note to self - scrub out FF and write WoW there xD]
Check or choose your controller layout at the top. Then toggle the 'Enable Back Grip Buttons' to on.
Select the paddle you wish to set as a modifier to open the rebinding menu, then navigate to Keyboard and choose the modifier key you want the paddle to act as.
Repeat for all desired paddles
Once your paddles are set up in Steam settings as above, launch WoW and use the corresponding commands in chat for each paddle set to a modifier./console GamePadEmulateShift PADPADDLE# /console GamePadEmulateCtrl PADPADDLE# /console GamePadEmulateAlt PADPADDLE#
For each command you will need to replace the '#' after PADPADDLE with the number corresponding to the paddle set to that mod.
They are as follows:
L4 = ?
L5 = ?
R4 = ?
R5 = ?
[Note to self - find someone to test what numbers they are]
I tested your console commands for xBox Elite 2 and they work fine. The Ctrl and Shift Buttons are assigned to the P1 and P2 Paddles. Don't forget to restart the game!
My setup:
First and most important: The xBox Elite has no native P1-P4 event - yeah that's really poor. This means that assigning the right number of the P-Buttons in the game is just unimportant. (I tested it). You only can assign other existing bottons - thats even more poor.
So what to do with the xBox Elite: You need a third party program to assign Ctrl and Shift to the Paddles. This is absolutely necessary because of the missing P-Events. (I use reWASD according to friends that confirm me that it's the best). I assigned Ctrl to the left upper Paddle. Then I defined with the Command "/console GamePadEmulateCtrl PADPADDLE1" the Ctrl Button (as mentioned above number not important). Therefor the Ctrl of the Button is mapped to the Ctrl assignment of the game. Now the use of the Paddle 1 can switch the UI and you can assign your actions with the Paddle 1 to the eg. P1-A (Ctrl-A) etc. combinations.
Funfact: The former use of my Steamcontroler was reassigned then. So i can use it just out of the box. The former workarount with the SteamControler was to change buttons RT and TL with the backside Paddles and assign Ctrl ans Shift instead to former normal RT and LT. I used the Trigger as modifier, no i use the Paddles. This workaround was my last resort for xBox Elite too. So with your solution its not necessary anymore. Thx
Do i understand this right, that usually the Button is emulating the Ctrl and Shift and with the console-command the direction changed that die Ctrl-Button now emulates the paddle?
If you like i could make a howto with screenshots for the xBox Elite configuration?!
You are somewhat correct. The game does not distinguish between a modifier being used by a gamepad button and a keyboard button. Therefore, these commands to set the paddles are purely for display purposes, and sorting out the logic in the addon properly.
It does not matter what is being used to press Shift, just that Shift is being pressed.
To add some extra information to this post, you can set normal keyboard buttons to emulate the paddles in the addon config, As for which buttons you choose, it does not matter, as long as they are not modifiers or typical control keys like Escape/Enter etc.
This effectively makes the addon "pretend" that you're using gamepad buttons for the paddle inputs, and bindings are stored and configured on those slots like any other button. Turning the addon off will give back the keyboard buttons and their bindings occupied by these emulation slots.
The above method can also be used to fool the addon that you're using paddles as your gamepad modifiers:
- Configure your mapping software (e.g. Steam) to have e.g. P1 and P2 do keys like F1 and F2.
- Configure
Interface > Bindings > Emulate P1/P2by pressing them and pressing the paddles. They should show F1/F2. - Go to
Settings > Emulationand change your modifiers by pressing P1/P2 again. They will show P1/P2, not F1/F2 as you configured in your mapping software. - Remove
Interface > Bindings > Emulate P1/P2by right clicking on them. - Change P1/P2 in your mapping software to the modifiers you mounted in
Settings > Emulation.
just got the paddles set up as mods and these are the numbers that worked for me
L4 = 1
L5 = 3
R4 = 2
R5 = 4
is there a way to show the paddle buttons as action bar buttons i can drag around like the others?
You should be able to enable them in the action bar tab if you scroll down. The interface is currently pretty horrible though. On the right hand side you have all the specifics of the buttons, and down at the bottom you should see mapped buttons that are not enabled. Clicking on one will spawn its config, then you can enable it by pressing the checkbox next to the eye.
That normally works, but the emulated paddles dont show up in the list.
For update i figured out what i was doing wrong. I was usinng the profile designed for dualsense and tryihg to set up a controller with 4 paddles. I swapped to the steam deck profile and that gave me access to the paddles as actionbar buttons. This is a workaround considering i am not using a steam deck but the button count is similar to thie gamepad i am using (flydigiVader3Pro).
My suggestion might be to add the emulated buttons p1,p2,p3,p4 to the actionbar gui if they are assigned in the interface tab. regardless of profile. Other than this unique issue i have, this mod is an essential for me, a massive thank you to its creators.
is there an alternative to reWASD for macos 14.1? i'm trying to map the paddles for the ELite V2 but steam isn't recognizing it.
JoyShockMapper is another alternative
Has anyone tried to set the paddles as left and right mouse buttons? I was able to get the shift and ctrl modifiers to work and wanted to try making P2-P4 the mouse buttons but it doesn’t seem to work.
Took me a while to find this post but finally found it. SOOO CLUTCH.
Its so sad, the 8bitdo back pedals doesn't get recognized by steam 😦 I wish I could put my 2 rings in those 2 buttons
Is there a list of controllers (mainly with back buttons) that are known to work?
DualSense 5 Edge works without any hacks or emulation, but only when wired.
Did you find any way to remap the paddles of the elite V2 on macos? Edit: managed to do it via Steam.
Im having an issue where my emulated paddles that i have bound to skills on my action bar will randomly stop working, get the action blocked, reload prompt, and then require a reload before they work again. I set up a reload macro to make this easier to deal with but its completely bricks my combat encounters when it happens, is there a way to fix this?
I've been having this exact same issue. It seems totally random. I've noticed that it happens even more often when I'm skyriding. But the action gets blocked and then I'm forced to reload.
Im going to try the steam deck layout for my xbox e2 controller but right now the issue I'm having is in the Xbox accessories app I have remapped on my wow profile p1-p4 to be the keybinds [];' those keys aren't used by wow. And it was working fine and I had it plugged in usb. I moved my laptop and the moment I switched to wireless no more p buttons. Plug it back in works. Any idea if the steam deck swap is what I need?
So I got my paddle buttons to work on xbox with their wireless usb adapter the controller acts as if plugged in usb and the buttons work woth whatever I set the keybind to in the Xbox accessories app. I used [];'
Any way to set up the M1 and M2 on rog ally to bind?
Hey Munk; longtime, I actually was an old user from before but I took a break for a longtime after both my kids were born but glad to see this discord is still up kicking. In regards to the paddle question, is the dual sense EDGE 5 still the only controller you know of that doesn’t require emulation for alt paddles?
Hmm did some research on this; and there are now other alternatives but also use the same steam method ; but none that don’t require steam or other 3rd party to work. Which is logical
having issues with my ps5 scuf controller with the paddles and giving them their own action without being tied to another button
Most Ps5 controllers will have this issue
You almost need a dual sense EDGE from all of my research
I am struggling to get this to work on my dual sense edge
I used /console GamePadEmulateShift PADPADDLELB
/console GamePadEmulateAlt PADPADDLERB and have steam settings
but I am not seeing it work at all in game
PADDLE1-4, there's no PADDLELB/RB
ohhhh im an idiot
I thought I just named it based on how it was in steam weirdly, I just clicked the back paddle and it seems to be working as a bind on its own for dual sense edge, likely I have it bound to buttons I hadnt noticed yet tho lol
my xbox elite 2 isnt showing up with enable paddles button like yours
I have an 8bitdo Ultimate 2 Wireless controller, and even when I use Steam to open the game, I still can't remap my pedals or the extra triggers like L4 and R4. I want to use L4 as my Alt modifier, but the addon never recognizes it 🙁
some keybinds you have to do within the blizzard keybinding spot
That may be wise anyway, but not necessary if the steps are followed.
Hey. Had some trouble with my elite controller not recognising the paddles. I downloaded “Xbox Accessories” in the Microsoft Store, and you can configure your paddles there. The three lights on the front correspond to “Profiles.” If no lights are shown then this is the default profile. If default is selected then paddles are disabled. I created a profile and saved it to slot one, the top light. Press the profile button on your controller and it’ll light up the first LED. There, I configured my paddles, and most functionality is there (ie combos, shift, ctrl emulation)
did you find an answer ? I'm curious if those M1 & M2 could be additional modifiers
I use my paddles to open bags and what not can't for the life of me have them work for modifiers it looks like it's possible but when I set it all up the way I thought it should work the paddles just don't do anything they don't change the action bars at all I was hoping I could have more then just lb Lt I'm going to continue messing with it because I know it's a me problem lol
If you use your Xbox Elite Series controller, but don't want to run Steam to use your paddles as modifiers, you can just download the Xbox Accessories software. It should looks something like this after you done all the steps laid out by Munk above. (See picture. I.E. paddle down right is set to Shift and down left is Cntrl).
Don't forget to restart the game after you did all the set up!
I know… did you read my post? It was a way to get around this.
Ah, I just left it for other people as a reference, since it took me a little bit of time to figure out.
That's all 🙂
Hi everyone, trying to get my new steam deck to work with this awesome addon. I just can't get the Paddle Buttons to work as modifier.
I remapped them successfully and in the binding menu it shows the toggle / bar switch just as it is with the default LB/LT layout.
But: In game, the trigger just do nothing. The bar does not change, the console-port action bar(s) still show LB/LT aswell.
Can someone help?
So finally Microsoft added the functionality to **freely **change the assignment of the controller buttons to their native software? That means its no longer necessary to use a third-party software!?!
I couldn't believe. That's great for everyone since reWASD changed der pricing politics some time ago making the license really expensive - just for assign like 4 buttons.
