#Looking for a deaf friendly guild (not 100% voice based in raids)

Howdy, I'm looking for a guild that would be a good fit - I'm deaf and voice chat often is required these days if you raid, which doesn't work well for me if nothing is posted via text! I have raided in EQ1, Vanguard, and Rift. I like to play everything - Melee dps, range dps, crowd control, healing, and tanking. I tend to prefer the last three though!

Guild wish list:

  1. Has people who chat in /guild, not just discord or such.
  2. grouping and raiding is via text as well as voice (no voice and text only would be awesome but unlikely!)
  3. Casual raiding, lots of grouping
  4. Not a huge guild - I like ones with 20-100 people - get to know everyone better that way.

Even if your guild isn't a good fit, if you know of one that might, please let me know and I'll contact them!

Thank you for reading and any help

My wife and I would be looking for the same type. Neither of us like the voice chat because it takes away some immersion for us. I preferred it when everyone chatted in /guild. Got to know many people that way that couldn't hear so well or were in a place where they could not be talking much because of kids sleeping.

I always felt that way too: MMO's lost something when everything went to voice. It's not that I'm averse to voice (in actually kind of a chatterbox), it's that voice can often just be TOO much rando-nonsense chatter. I dunno. Text chat just seems to feel more 'in the game', where voice is like watching a movie while everyone watching just talks nonstop and only pays attention when they need to.

Yeah, nothing quite as UNawesome as someone blasting their favorite <insert music type here> that I do not care for. I'm not in the chat to hear your music. I'm in it because I am required to be for the raid.

you are most welcome to join us - Oathsworn. I have had a person who was deaf in ESO join us, as well as other who have physical disablities. We will make every effect to communicate with you via chat. we are small and want to stay small and expand out as the game requires. Feel free to come and check us out and if we aren't your cup of tea. No hard feelings! #1299654135058010242 message

@haughty geyser @dense hill @spice sluice I haven't had any luck finding any guilds that do primarily/only text chats. Dayhjawk with oathsworm and raidil with Dragon Acord have been the only ones to reply positively, but it's mostly been to say that they'd work with me. Still most is in voice chat for all the guilds I've checked with. Groups with text sometimes. Raids in voice primarily.

Any of yall found a guild that is primarily text chat based?

If not, Oathsworn and Dragon Accord the only positive experience I've had a positive experience speaking with. sigh

I haven't had any luck either. We seem to be a small minority. When EA starts we may just have to make our own, even if it is just the few of us.

well, like I said most welcome with us. We small and it wouldn't be an issues communicating via chat. Just a challange, i hate using that word, for us to remember, but have done it before in ESO in both grouping and raiding. Whatever ya'll decide, just know at any point you are welcomed to join us!

And we building the guild from the ground up, with certain foundations in mind and expanding as we need for what we need, on all fronts.

You guys are always walking with us too. If you do start your own guild, you're welcome to make an alliance with us. We end up on the same server raid mobs you'll just might need someone relaying information.

There are a few discord bot programs out there that advertise voice-to-text transcription
I wonder if any of those are practical

In a similar boat with my low frequency hearing loss. Many accents, soft speakers, and low register voices sound like Charlie Brown's school teacher to me. Can't lip read to assist my hearing through VC, but using VC isn't impossible for me unlike the OP. Depending on where I end up... It wouldn't bother me to be grouped with others that can't or won't use VC during raids. I'm a writer so typing fast to relay what little I do hear isn't an issue in whatever guild I eventually land in.

Yeah, with the way it is the game's design, I can't guarantee voice stuff during raids by no. We have a few.

Anyways, I'm glad that you guys are working to try to figure out good solution for people who can't depend upon voice. If combat was closer to how he was and not so spammy on fast timing on skills like it is now there would be no issues with duel vc and text

We had a couple from my last EQ server his wife had hard hearing issues. She was such a nice young lady. I think the voice worked out for her mainly because he was there to assist. I can certainly understand those challenges. We did type a lot of things for her. I am just not certain if the pace of the game play will always allow for typing with how interactive and intense I suspect this game content will start to become and I actually am looking forward to that as well. However, we’re still in the mists of EA and I am sure as people gain experience with content even without speech I suspect that it will be doable as long as everyone understands their classes roles. There is always macros that can type out instructions to the raid so can be quick and efficient ^_^

Pantheon is not as quick as rift and I was a raid leader in rift and did everything in text chat with no issues. I think that a lot of the time what's actually needed is that people prepared ahead of time and had an idea of what the bosses were like. There's a deaf guild in WoW that I'm a part of and they're fairly competitive about raiding.

TLDR - even with fast paced games, voice isn't a requirement as long as people play smart and prepare ahead of time.

I'll be joining one of the two - I have a few friends that I've made and if they end up on the same server, that'll probably tip things in their favor.

@shrewd sleet I tried a few of them a year and half ago, but they didn't work out very well. The reasons were usually 1. ineffective overlay 2. inaccurate transcripion (often when multiple people were speaking or there was too much background noise/music 3. Required a monthly fee that was MORE than the game sub.

You can install a voice to text bot in discord as well. We used this in eq for hearing impaired you can set it to only pick up certain ranks in discord also. So that raid communication can be easily transmitted for the hearing impaired.
