I loved your first game its probably my favorite game of all time! Some of the main issues with the demo is 1. The map is incredibly empty and same(ish) why would I travel across the map to find another city exactly the same as the city Im currently in? the quests are sparse and I dont think most of them are completeable. 2. The gameplay isn't very innovative and I dont feel I have as many options with it as the first game. 3. There are lots of bugs everywhere with the build, getting stuck in invisible blocks, the podium not registering I was wearing the fancy hat, ect. I believe these will be fixed in time
#I am NOT impressed with this "Demo"

Cry about it
Sorry you weren't a fan, but in all honesty this may be the least constructive and most hyperbolic critique I've seen so far. Which actually says a lot about the community! However I would take a step back and ask yourself: "Why post this?"
Can you narrow it down to a few specific things?
Matt is trying ok
He is doing this on his own for the most part
Even still
He is taking feedback from the community
What is wrong with the concept?
He takes what is good from SoR1 and puts it into SoR2
Sure the "Roguelite" is gone
But it has the same charm
If you think you can do better
Make your own game
It's ok, no need to defend the game. The demo's got plenty of issues, I'm just curious what OP views as the worst offenders.
I don't think he's defending the game, I think he's defending you.
This "feedback" was straight up cruel, you do good work and shouldn't be dragged through the mud like this.
Wait Mr. Dabrowski! Im so sorry I loved your first game its probably my favorite game of all time! I wrote this last night when I was realy mad and in hindsight I can see the issues with my arguement. Some of the main issues with the game is 1. I believe these will be fixed in time and I should likely re-write the original message.
Mr. Dabrowski thanks a lot for the work you have done on this it will hopefully live up (and exceed) the first game. I was expecting the level of quality as a finnished game from a demo which is unrealistic. I'm aware most of my points will be ironed out with time. The main thing I have an issue with is that there is no purpose to travel in this demo yet I withold hope it will be fixed.
I apologize alot for the original message because I was realy mad when I was writting it.
Im pretty sad about that to be honest but Im interested
This is an absolute goldmine of potential I think it should take the decision making of SR1 and quadruple it.
Switched sides real quick
I wrote this when I was mad.
Mistakes happen, we've all been there when we've done something regerable in anger. Hats off to you for apologising though, it makes you more mature than most of the people online.
Unfortunately I'm not the person who has to accept the apology, that'd be Matt. But I respect it.
Yep I was really angry last night
He's allowed to apologise, we all make mistakes.
It's literally the best he can do in this situation.
Oh so if u kill someone and then apologize because u say u were angry does it still make it right?
Do you believe that this was equal to murder?
Shouldn't have said anything in the first place
🤷
Unlike you I have a few moments where the game makes me upset, but I don't go about Insulting the game, the developer and the concept of it
I restated my original post if you would read it
Ironically, you're making a mistake right now. Don't worry, if you apologise I'm sure @jovial sand will forgive you.
with my main concerns
I have already forgiven him no need to apologize lol @rotund hemlock
Good you did that 👍 Still you said what u said, that's never gonna. Go away
Im aware that you now likely have a negative perception of me but thats how the cookie crumbles sometimes
Now that I read your constructive criticism, I actually think you have some good points.
I personally haven't had a chance to play the demo (life is busy), but I was wondering about the open world and how each city would feel different...
Sounds like at this stage of the development they're a little samey. I'm sure there are plans to give them more character.
I know but it feels as wide as an ocean deep as a puddle except its only as wide as a pond Im sure it will be more interesting later but it will be difficult
I dont know how you can make procedural generation unique feeling. For more information consider looking at the videogame "We Happy Few"
I could care less anymore just glad you changed your choice of words to criticize the game if you're having anger issues. Never hurts to Seek anger management Therapy 🙏
Frogy your making me considering ending this trainwreck of a thread
Just ignore him. If he doesn't want to talk about the game (you know... the point of this discord) then that's on him.
Anyway, I'm curious about how the game is going to encourage us to travel to other cities (aside from the obvious way, which is make quests that send you to other cities).
Maybe the cities will have modifiers/traits to make them unique. Like one city might be full of blahds and crepes, so might be a little bit dangerous, but might compensate by having lower prices.
But making quests send you to other cities is lazy. We need a creative way which will be difficult with a procedurally generated open world
Make each city have something special in it or smth to promote exploration
Like City A has a factory and City B is overrun with mobsters
But how would we do this with procedural generation?
When city is generated it could select from a list of modifiers that help make it unique. Like a vampire mod that makes vampires generate more often in that town for example.
It could also include structures, like a vampire mansion, to help the town feel unique.
Now you have a potential reason to explore other towns. Each one has something unique about it. Not saying we can't think of other reasons, but it's a start.
Mayor is a vampire
But what would the point of more vampires or a vampire mansion?
It's something interesting, or at least the start of it. Next step is to create some unique interactions with vampires. They already have the fact that they bite people, so the town will be different in how it generates chaos (if a vampire bites a blahd, then other blahds might attack it, causing chaos).
But there is other stuff that could be added.
- They could have a unique drop.
- Killing them could increases you reputation with a new faction.
- It could be possible to become a vampire, so searching for a town of vampires would make it easier to become one.
wdym this game is good
soo good
im obsessed
best game ive probably played
imo
I think people forget how little content SoR 1 had when it first released in early access. There was only Slums and I think Industrial? Or was it just Slums? Just needs more time to cook
