#For beginners channels

check the pins for each channel, they usually have useful videos and tutorials, we're always looking for pin suggestions
#ue5-general is where general beginner videos get pinned
I still think a channel with ONLY videos would be great. Categorized so people can find them.
that's kind of what #1054845249945616404 is for
wouldn't be a bad idea to make a pinned post in #1054845249945616404 for "editor's choice" beginner videos... if anyone has suggestions for beginner videos post them here
Video tutorials are great for some topics which are visual like BP and other Editor features; however they are inferior to text tutorials for c++ and other text based topics.
I think "Tutorials Only" makes more sense than "Video Tutorials Only"
and like Qwigs said we have a forum channel for that already 😄
its just you cant get specific enough with the videos. Like im trying to make a pickup system for a zombie arcade while it has a few the others i want to add are more complex and i have no idea how to make them.
So ask questions.
still no responce.....
true but i have a pack of a specific one trying to add to it. The creator does not go into enough detail as to how they made the pack, and i have no idea how to do more.
I google it and come up with like 5 video tutorials right off.
Then you need to learn unreal and figure it out. Or ask teh creator.
all i could do is put out questions to creator and put something in chat to figure it out bit by bit. Which i have done with no responces.
or look up hundreds of how tos until one HAPPENS to work with what im doing
seems mostly like a waste of time. Normally id have a programmer do it but i have no money to pay them so here we are
So how would a beginners channel even help?
You'd have to look through "hundreds of how tos" anyway...
for those like me! SO maybe they wont have to go through hundres of videos to solve their problem.
Just tip videos like the pins but out in the open not the extra click pins step i had no idea we even had videos in pins until someone told me.
plus i have no idea what im doing i got tired of not getting hired anywhere so im making a one dollar game people can play bug progress is really slow.
Just an example for the suggestion
Not knowing how to use discord isn't really something you can solve by adding another channel.
Then people just won't find the channel, which you already didn't find, instead of not knowing about pins.
You can just say no you don’t want it rather than having a 40 minute conversation.
I’m a designer that couldn’t get a job in his field not really relevant.
All I’m saying is a category that says videos or tips just like the tutorial but it’s categorized. And the closer you go to the simpler it is. Like basic lighting, and then all the way to how to make a truly processed mixed with lighting setting in landscape
That’s all I’m saying you can just say I don’t agree.
I did. I said, "Isn't that what channel pins are for?"
And then somebody mentioned the tutorials channel I didn't even know existed!
Ultimately the true beginner stuff is pinned in #ue5-general and beyond actual beginner stuff, you'd need to find more specific tutorials, which are pinned in other channels.
And why can’t we take all of the pins and put them in a separate area so you can click it and just be there? That way it’ll stay on the one you’re at and you can minimize the tab if needed.
Because organisation is a thing?
Like you don't dump (I hope, at least) every asset in the root content folder.
There are some channels with like 20+ things pinned. If every pin from every channel was in a single place, it would be pretty useless.
For the record, there are ~100 channels.
As I’ve been saying, not a single place in a categorized area.
But that's already a thing? It's literally the pins in each channel. They are already categorised.
And again it’s an extra step and if you close out of the tab or minimize it, you have to click it again and figure out where you were.
Don't close the tab?
Or minimize or put in the background
I just opened discord in my browser, opened the pinned message in #ue5-general then alt-tabbed and minimized the window. They're still there.
I can also open 2 browser tabs to the same channel one with the pins open and one without.
And now you see how it was a bit much to do. if you can click the video and open the link in a separate browser that’s already two screens one would be for the engine.
....Dude just learn to use Discord.
The pins are in in the channels for organization like Daekesh mentioned
I’ve been on discord for years and never known about them. Many different servers nobody has ever used them.
