#Request for a text channel to post quick fixes to problems by people who have found a solution

I'd like to request the Moderators to create a Text channel to post quick fixes to problems by people who find a solution so that:

Future users can find solutions to their problems quickly and easily.
For example, Person A is facing a common issue XYZ
Instead of asking in #ue5-general or #ue4-general or any specific channels and waiting for a long time hoping for someone to come in and give them the fix, they can use the search bar in the #quick-fixes channel and type their problem where a previous User B who faced the issue and found out a solution to it will have posted it in the format of:

Problem: I faced XYZ while I was trying to do ABC in my Game
Solution: Do 123 to fix the problem

#

It should have a long slow mode to prevent people from turning into a #chat channel

they can use the search bar in the #quick-fixes channel
How is this different from simply using the search bar now?

#

Seems more effective that way since you're searching the entire server.

#

We're about to launch a new feature for Manny that allows people to share premade responses to common questions, too.

# distant panther We're about to launch a new feature for Manny that allows people to share premad...

That would be great, but I wonder how effective a bot may be in understanding the specific nuances in a human asking a question

Also, I'm assuming the responses would probably be generalised?

For example, in this new text channel, if someone posts their solutions as "Do 123" and someone else with a similar problem posts "Do 123 and 4 if you haven't done it", would Manny know if the person asking the common question has already done 4 or not?

If there exists a case, where a person hasn't done a hypothetical step 5, THEN they can ask in the general text channels

#

Please think about it 🙂 and lemme know

Basically: the bot will house a growing selection of FAQs that you can use a command to search through and quickly post a pre-written response in Discord. This way when common questions come up again and again, people can just share it through Manny instead of writing it again every time.

Links to images and videos will be supported, yes.

#

It's launching very, very soon.

Whats the difference with searching in e.g. #ue5-general then?

#

Woops missed some text apparently

It supports anything you can put in a normal Discord message.

I know the bot would be great but as a last message in this thread, I'd like to say that not many people realise that they can use the search bar for their questions

So the new channel would have kinda encouraged it in a way

But if they don't know how to use the search bar now, having another channel to search won't help 😉

icy wave
#

Maybe 🤣

#

Unless the channel was named #search-for-fixes-here

Wow - the man himself straight dietered others

I hate search bar, it’s useless and shows a ton of unrelated crap that doesn’t even pertain to what I’m searching half the time

not yet I think

I know not every developer is on GitHub or even familiar with it.

Cool 🙂

Slightly off topic here but I find the discord search to be somewhat useless because you can’t parse any of the text from a blueprint screenshot. So if someone we’re to post something and it just says “here’s the fix” but the blueprint screenshot has comments and nodes to make it clear what it’s all about you’ll still miss it in the search results because it appears as a small thumbnail and discord can’t make sense of the text within an image.

So if there was a slow channel with a post template that requires a title and description along with a screenshot then maybe it could work.

Yeah, I'm waiting for Manny's update, if it solves the needs of the Community, all good

But if I doesn't, I would bring this topic up with the Mods again...

#

And like boss man said, he's working on a web based form, that sounds great, but I wonder how many people would explicitly take time out of their day on a regular basis to post stuff on the form for Manny

#

My solution was more like, encouraging the Community to post quick fixes in a separate channel so that people who use this Discord server on a regular basis, if they get help from the Community or figure out what they wanted, then they can post the quick fix in the channel as a sort of habit to help the Community

#

Which to me sounds more plausible, than opening a web form and filling things out

.

#

Hey guys, any update on the Web form? (it's been a month)

Cool, thank you 🙂

#

One question though

#

I know you'll handle spam responses and other things, but who decides which responses end up on Manny's official quick response list? Will you be going through them personally?

distant panther
#

Me and all my other staff members will be able to vet the responses.

Thanks, appreciate it 🙂

Lack of communication on our part, but this has been pushed back to being launched before the end of the year.

Cool thanks 🙂

I try launching a project in C++ and it continues to pop up with this. What do I do?
