I think i have finally fix the problem, i DDU'd off the drivers, disconnected from the internet and then installed the amd driver, so the driver from microsoft never got on the box

just FYI, its been some time now, and all my stability issues can be traced by to a driver from microsoft getting on the system first before installing official drivers from amd

if you have a team red rig, DDU off the drivers, don't allow windows to install an amd driver from their update service (kill that network connection) and install clean amd drivers, good bye problems

also my system is back to being a rocket

It's generally wise to go straight to the official source for all driver stuff

you will have to get those default drivers off first, and make sure they don't sneak on when you boot back out of safe mode, i hadn't thought oh i am not actually installing a clean system

clean off the windows 11 approved microsoft drivers, then install the amd drivers

do that and you get a stable system.

It has a lower tdp then the 4080. But ue4 seems a bit nvidia biased. Though I might be able to brute force an amd card to perform excellently

actual RT cores in the nvidia product perform better than what amd has at this point (we dont know on 7900 its not out yet) so if you use those heavily, it will perform better for that use. You also have CUDA on Nvidia if you use that for stuf outside of UE. With that said, if you need 60fps out of your project and both give you it (you wont know until they re both tested using something similar to your goals/use case) then the cheaper one makes more sense

flots/gigajewels/barnium units all really dont matter in a general sense as the use case is what matters. I have a 6800m in this laptop for example and it runs everything I need unless I need 60fps using full hardware raytracing then I swap to my 3080 machine.

I have been getting terrible performance on any game / project that brings my laptop underload.

But 1 minute after booting up a nanite scene, I realized that Nvidia is displaying my Fan speed as 0 RPM

Am I getting low performance because I have a broken fan?
(Laptop is Lenovo Legion i5 from I think 2019)

no, you probably get shit performance because it might use your CPUs graphics unit instead of the nvidia one

i think if you right click the unreal editor icon you can chose which gpu is used when you launch it

Ive had an issue with the power of my USB devices turning off when my external hard drive was in operation.

I solved this issue by getting a independently powered USB hub (Super useful, highly recommend one if you don't have one)

Looking at building a new PC now.

If anyone knows, do you think that USB power problem I had is indicative of a problem with the power supply unit of my current PC, or something else?

could be a lot of factors...

main factor is probably the mainboard which didn't either provide enough power after all for all USB ports, or didn't limit the power draw on the port correct

My PC is definitely frankensteining along, but my suspicions are that the PSU is fine. Ill try to reuse it and just see what happens 🙂

Plus a large screen makes playing games harder.

Not only does it force you to use more of your (very bad) peripheral vision, it means you have to render higher resolutions.

I would not use a curved screen with 3D...all your lines are warped 😅 Getting a 42 inch monitor was the dream, a ton of real estate and playing games you see a lot more detail up closer

those "lines" help your brain to quickly focus on what matters if you move your focus to another screen

There's also different levels of curvature. Some are highly curved, some are not.

For me, those "lines" mean convenient places to maximise my windwos without having to bother with a window manager.

If you can afford it, you can get almost the same price with ASUS TUF but with RTX 3060 115 W inside
