@dull path @steady dagger We used dynamic and static lighting together. For both cinematics and world lighting. Static lighting was basicly there to make sure all assets look like they sit where they are with ao blending them together sort of thing. Dynamics were used to give all the environments that sweet look on top, as there are no strong lights in the static. Weird combination but it worked.

@steady dagger yeah you can do that and you can also use the multi file export terrain to decide of your chunks in Unreal
@urban bridge I just watched the gameplay video and I was instantly stroke by a few things regarding speed feelings. I think it doesn't feel like I'm racing at high speed. And I also have a problem with body awareness (how I feel my character within the game world). And also, the art style is a good idea but I feel like there are still many things which look out of place in it. It looks a little bit "chaotic" as if only half of the elements are missing the retro / synthwave touch.
Regarding speed feeling, I'd say animate the wheels to make them turn faster and faster, add bloom the faster you drive, add particle effect, add and change car sounds, add speed post-process effects... everything you can to improve the racing feelings.

Thank you so much for the feed back! I agree in that we should add more elements to help really show that you are moving faster and that speed is increasing. I like the bloom idea and we had planned on adding particles or tire streaming/trails. We'll definitely look into that as we continue working on this /prototype/demo. I hope you managed to also beat the game as some people have found it too difficult. Thank you so much for playing and for the great feedback!

Why is that your main feature
Looks great but yeah, I don't have a super RTX card. Backwards compatibility use to be a thing.

@jagged berry I don't believe I said that is a main feature? It's a realtime ray tracing game, it makes use of RT shadows and reflections. Real mirrors are part of gameplay and puzzles
Well like every second word in description is RTX or raytracing xD, but mirror puzzles can be fun
I hear you, I could be overdoing that a bit. I'm trying to impress on people that this game requires a card that can do RT. You might be surprised about some of the early agitation and confusion I had from AMD users. But AMD doesn't do ray tracing yet, that's not something I can really solve. So trying to make it clear to potential gamers.

I think epic already announced vulkan raytracing (AMD) Support on roadmap, but then removed it again for no public reason
they've been kinda behind schedule on the RT features. i get that this is a tough thing to develop for

It's a simple tool that automatically find and allow to clean unused assets on projects
It's helpful to not only save time, avoid having to migrate assets to a new project to get rid of old stuff, but mostly to keep your project and build size small, reduce loading time and keep stuff clean.

@dawn cloak In the exemple it is used as a PostProcessMaterial.
If you want to have a second one you just have to add a new instance of the main material with differents parameters 😉

Hey folks. I'm a level designer and I made a playable little game that would hypothetically take place in the Cyberpunk world. Or at least, in a world that's inspired by Pondsmith's universe. Granted I don't have any skills that do anything cool like mantis arms or double jump or anything of the sort, but this is a super simplified level that only showcases 1 avenue of approach: guns. Pretty much run around, blast some dudes, and walk around/check out the mini level I made!

yeah it's really nice from them. it also benefits them since the playerbase is getting smaller and smaller and modding will help a lot with getting players back and bringing new ones. this game has a good combat system that can be adapted to many things.

Of course, the bar for any game to sold today is extraordinarily high, why would you pay for an indie game when so many huge AAA titles are free on EGS, free-to-play on Steam ?
The answer is that it has to be a really high quality execution of a unique concept

I have a small problem with steam, they say me, that I need to pay 100$ and add my game, when I have moved my buisness into the new company, I need to pay the 100$ again and delete the old game and move it to the new account (I had contact with the steam support about this)
I don´t think this want help the players to wishlist my game, when I need to remove it and add it to a new account, because then the full wichlist would be empty^^
you cant just throw a game on itch and expect people to buy it. That's just not how it works. In my opinion, you shouldn't even launch a game until you have a following. But that's just me

Nope not an architect! Substance supplied a variety of images of buildings for inspiration under the following categories Retail, Skyscraper, Museum, Stadium and Theater

The references were chosen because they mainly have big sweeping planes of form - perfect for trying out the various materials/displacements/masks from the Substances

Just posting again for people who would have missed it since its very useful and UE4's isnt, I extended UE4's spring controller anim graph node so that it supports component space simulation and can limit specific axis (making it usable for helmets, etc)

I made a spring controller that has limits for specific axis and directions, made to solve the issue of helmet's clipping through the head because you can't clamp

TBH im worried i might have put the price too high...
to be really honest, @cosmic turtle the content in that package is content I'd probably see in 2004-ish era games like Unreal Tournament 2004.
Does not mean its bad, but it does feel a bit outdated and lacking finesse. (though I do like the curvature on the detail that is there)
And the amount of content is on the low side as well, so not much that warrants the asking price.
I'd say, keep at it and keep improving :)

Basically, you need to sell them your game and yourself. Prepare some presentation, trailer, gameplay video, even prototype build. You need to convince them that your product will sell on their platform. But keep in mind that they got tons of submissions per day and they probably won't invest to much time to read something to long. Think about it like you got 15min to convince someone that he should choose your game not someone else.

For the pans and pots I used real world measurements from a website, but they may have been restaurant size or something. I'll try to make them more to scale.
I think I'll will be updating the transparent materials with a more advanced material. I also had some liquid meshes for the glasses but they didn't look as nice, so I removed them for now.

That's not how marketplace pricing works
When I pay for an item on the marketplace I expect it to be cheaper than if I paid someone for it specifically because there I'm the only one buying it
And here a lot of people can buy
And this is exactly what happens - you get weeks of work for the cost of hours.
It would only be overpriced if your in-house team could do as good at a similar cost, which for most companies around the world is not the case.
Please don't attack marketplace contributions over their cost. Maybe you aren't the audience - that's fine.

- it was not what you were thinking
- it can't work in your project for some reason(s)
- it's just poorly done
- you encounter a bug and author doesn't answer
- you encounter a bug and try to fix it yourself, you need to understand it first, it can take days
- if you want to add something to big system you need to understand it first, it can take weeks
- you won't use it beacuse you decided to switch to different project (happens quite a lot)

hm, I don't understand the last part. I want to learn, so I don't buy ready solution, but try to make them myself. Keep in mind we are not talking (well, at least I'm not) about making comercial projects only, but also prototypes, hobby and stuff.
The only time I would look at marketplace is if your looking to save time. Thats it. 90% of the time you will need to build it yourself to fully understand how it is going to work with your game.
If you would rather learn, why would you look at a marketplace asset ? Most of them aren't exactly great learning stuff. Marketplace assets are time savers for production.

In most of the Western world that's hours of minimum wage, not days
I understand that it's a different calculation if you live in Bangladesh
To put it in more perspective stranger, lets give minimum wage 8.00 usd saying to earn the amount of money for our asset would require 6 hours of work. Typical 9 to 5 job being 8 hours its the majority of that days pay. So I think the people arguing are making the point to say why would someone work all day to buy your asset, if they were provided the option to buy something very similar at a fraction of yours.
His product, his hours, he evaluates his products and efforts. To expensive for you? Move on, nobody asked you to comment with "To ExPenSivE".
This isn't a raise to the bottom, if you produce quality work, put the $ higher.

haha. Yeha, definitely. We are working on that. Not necesarily the "sticking finger in his nose" part, but the audience is animated and reacts to you. Asking questions is definitely on our roadmap for the next year, think a Q&A session

@ebon hamlet LiveCoding is just better replacing the virtual table using a command of MSVC. Should work change everything, I had 0 problems. If you find any issue let me know.
C++ Hot Reload is integrated in complex engines with tons of legacy code, atm no issues. I need to check some things on the C++ parser inside (used to reload all private variables and serialization) with UE4 macros, but so far 0 problems atm

@unique coral Does this have UE4's own hot reload system's bugs?
for example, when a header file is changed & hot reloaded, Unreal likes resetting values of an object inheriting from this class under some circumstances.
C++ Hot Reload will go through the non UProperty values, but if you tell me the case I can fix that. I’m trusting that UE4 does that right!🧐
I’ve sent a mail yesterday to UE4 DevRel to know a list of caveats! I hope they will mention that also

It will get there. The initial beta release was mostly due to constant requests from my discord channel. I wanted to wait until it was finished, but a lot of people preferred to have it sooner on their hands, even if it's buggier
