Hey guys, I'm currently working with my colleagues on game called Ironsmith: Medieval Simulator. The game itself will be a sandbox genre where player has ability to make his own decisions and actions, where the main goal is to become an artisan in blacksmithing. Ironsmith focuses mainly on unique crafting system - as this feature is mostly emphasized on our production.
The Key concepts are following:
*Specialised crafting system for blacksmithing, which required unique approach with doing tools and weapons
Sandbox genre located in medieval town.
Dynamic economy which will change during gameplay.
Every player will be able to make his own blueprints/schematics of weapons/armors so the crafting itself will be highly customisable
*Co-op/Multiplayer. We strongly want that to happen in our game so people can exchange schematics or just do typical things with each other.

You mean with NPCs as well, or only with players? Because we are planning to implement that feature anyway if it comes about real people.
You will be able to sell any items you want actually and haggle the price. Obviously with NPCs, most of the prices will be constant, however there are some events which can affect the prices negatively/positively (New copper mine built in the area, prices increasing because of war etc.)

I had another idea for the game
It is hard, that's true. That's why you need to use different sources, facebook, twitter, game developer's forums etc.
However we strongly put emphasis on people's feedback. As we developers can't be always sure what people would like in our production
that's why we are trying to get people engaged and tell us what they would like to see in our game. Because we have plenty of ideas for Ironsmith, and there are also plenty of them not yet discovered which could be crucial for unique gameplay and entertainment.

The other idea was for players to be able to open like franchises, getting other players to work for them for a wage and then employing NPCs. I think that would be awesome. So if people can't afford to open their own blacksmith they have to work for other players until they have enough to buy a shop

Well we did not discuss what equpiment will player have at the beginning of the game. However, I think there will be no problem for experienced players with accumulated wealth to hire other player to assist them in their tasks. Because our system includes the idea where you can join other's people game/world by invitation (via steam). So you could actually hire players from Tavern for money/items/schematics.
If it comes about hire NPCs - yes we wanna do it in game. They will perform simple tasks for you - such as buying essential items from market and deliver them to your venue's storage etc.

After small break im back with my scene! The main inspiration source were scottish higlands. Main focus was to achieve foggy mood and lighting mainly without sun. Something like after rain maybe. It was a good practice with UE4 after small break and also good practice to work with Megascans. Whole scene (except for terrain) is boosted by Megascans with some custom materials created with Mixer. Im so happy how is it fast and comfortable to work with Quixel Megascans and Bridge!

we've gotten motion sickness pretty well under control imo.
poor frame rate and frame/stutter can make it happen, or simply allowing player "lean" in any axis via controls while head stays in same axis
that will automatically convince brain that you've got an orientation disconnect due to food poisoning, thus releasing contents of stomach

well the map developer makes a brush like the collision one in the editor
and the brush should get in radius and area every actor to be baked when your press bake

@keen glacier checked out your artstation page and the recent projects are a big step up w.r.t. lighting. did you just get better or is lighting exteriors just way, way harder?
@glacial canopy Alot of my previous projects were commissions made in the Source Engine, so I couldn't really experiment with the lighting that much like in UE4. It all depends on the scene generally, but there are tricks for exterior lighting as well. Indoor lighting seems much easier for me, but I'm gonna try to prototype and make my next scene outdoors and see how that works out.
Last piece I did for Fractured Space - polished up a little bit on my own time to get it to a point where I'm 100% happy with it.

The Scene is part of a school assigment. But I am planning to use the expertise to (in the end) create a modular library of props and building pieces with which a huge hospital can be build. I got a game idea as a background too, but for now I focus on getting the assets to create some proof of concept on a visual level. The final building might be a lot different to this though, since I am still concepting and testing out different art styles and ways to approach modular building pieces 😃

so far for me : Reasons for: performance... reasons against: having to fix a bunch of blueprints to make it work... i have a HUGE project where nativization is just a pain in the butt to get working, but its also a huge game... but for my mobile game i started from the first build nativizing it, and its worked thus far... i've seen the livestreams where they say nativization makes the game faster... so idk , performance gains is always a benefit ... i think its always like: does it run at 60fps on a potatoe. yes: dont touch it, no: do something to make it faster (nativize if you are cpu bound [like on mobile])
Just use C++
It will be faster than nativized Blueprints, it will work much more reliably, will be easier to maintain, less likely to break on engine updates
Of course if you don't know anything about C++, and your project is running at 50fps instead of 60, and you're CPU bound, then sure, try nativized
But it shouldn't be your default option

@sly narwhal For foliage and that rock texture I used megascans.com textures. But for the modelling of the foliage, I just did my best to replicate my plant references using as little geo as possible. If you have more questions (I know that wasn't super detailed haha) you can DM (PM?) me

Why would they need to?
As far as I remember, stuff that Epic offers, like the Assets or just learning resources, are not allowed to be shared outside of the Launcher.
Because everyone who accesses these should have to log into the Launcher and so accept the EULA etc.
Creating a "tutorial" on how to create such an asset is technically removing the need to go through the Launcher, allowing people to use Epic's assets without having to accept the EULA
That's why he is not allowed to do that.

Either that or its a cool material function thats buried under 5 layers of materials and I wanna pull it out and show how to just make it its own material

@spice field You will need to become a licensed Nintendo developer, but the requirements are a lot less strict than they used to be. Have your publisher or you yourself contact your local Nintendo rep. Buying a devkit after that is also quite cheap and easy (compared to the 'good old days').

@tawdry sundial For BP only, these are quite good. Doubt there is much else you can do for settings.
If you, yourself, are interested in learning the C++ "proper way" (one could argue that whatever works is proper), look into the "GameUserSettings" class.
It's already exposed to BPs for Graphics Options but can be inherited from and extended with all other settings you wish for.
You might actually be able to replicate (not the network "replicate") the UserSettings via an Obect in Blueprints, marking variables in it as "Config".
Only difference to the GameUserSettings is the missing way of getting the object via a static function.
The good thing about the "config" part is, that users have the ability to adjust etc. settings via the ini config files of UI, outside of the game.
And I'm not sure how much control one has about saving the Object in BPs.

You're right, graphics are already exposed. What I was looking for is how to expose anything (even game specific settings) to .ini for the end user to adjust. Reason being that some settings might only apply to a small advanced portion of your user base and it might not be worth the time adding it to an in game menu, but exposing it in an .ini would allow users to change it if they want to. I'll do some digging and see what I can find, I know I've looked into it in the past.
Well the most straight forward way is using "config" specifiers
I never used them in BP, but even the variables in your BPs should have that if you check its advanced settings
In C++ it's actually quite straight forward.
UCLASS(config=game)
That will place all config marked variables into the GameIni or DefaultGameIni file.
UPROPERTY(config) will make sure it's putting the variable into the config file.
Every UObject (and children) have a function called "LoadConfig" and "SaveConfig" to have some more control over saving and loading these variables
I think I saw that checkbox in bp. Maybe that is possible
But usually if you create an instance of a class and that class has config marked variables, it loads them from the config file if they are defined in it
So most of the stuff happens automatically
That does seem straight forward
I would suggest you just try it with a simple C++ Class as well as a simple Blueprint.

We use them to swap the build we are producing. We have a lot of offline builds for like 1UP or GDC.
As well as DEMO builds and I always hated to have a boolean in the GameInstance or so
Now it's placed in the project settings
Which then turns into this (or C++ of course)
Very useful for bigger projects
But enough of me spamming the #released channel :D sorry!
A proper loading screen is another great thing about C++, I did figure out a somewhat decent way of doing it in bp using levels
Oh one more thing, these settings are of course also in a config if marked as such.
@ebon hamlet Ok, sure end user settings are good but man, that would save so much time and make it easy for designers to work with it
Yeah I can easily tell my client to go to the project settings to add new Loading Screen images
As well as define keys for UI as they sadly don't use the input system like normal events
