I made this game concept using only 3D scanning for the environment https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBNd79lcWX0
Creating a game using real life objects only? It can be done thanks to photogrammetry, by turning pictures into 3D models.
This is only a concept and it could be improved.
I wanted to create a level design for a FPS game using only 3D scans I made in 2022. Even though these models are not ideal for real-time use, I was able to, thanks to Unrea...
"This is our heart. Sometimes, it feels like a barren land, with no grass, fauna or flora, just the dark void or an endless emptiness. Still in that void, you have to find that ray. It can be anything. A ray of hope, a ray of love you might say or just a ray of sunshine to brighten up your day.
Hold on to it. There was nothing before, there's no...

@dull comet as someone who watches your vids, you never did any real level design, level design =not environment art.
thanks for mentioning that. I'm gonna edit it in the description
thanks. we actually have a #level-design channel, and because so many people think leveldesign = environment art, the channel gets cluttered by it. So we try to actively suggest people to not mention leveldesign when they do art, as the two principles are very different :)
It'll hopefully help the community as a whole in the long run.
Having said that, your end results are always really nice :)
thanks man
After getting few requests and blessing from Froyok, I made my implementation of their custom bloom/lens flare articles a free and open source plugin.
For Unreal Engine 5.1 or later, code is (mostly) compatible with UE4.26 or later. Engine modification is required, so this won't work with vanilla launcher builds.

UE5.1 Path tracing. Marketplace assets, Quixel textures/Decals, Standard and Custom Metahumans. Post process in photoshop.
Simply put, Runtime Virtual Texturing or RVT is a way to blend objects with your landscape environment.
I've put a video on my youtube channel, you can learn to use it in it:
https://youtu.be/VO4RSHvu_PM?t=787
what is Runtime Virtual Texturing based on unreal engine documentation?
A Runtime Virtual Texture (RVT) creates its texel data on demand using the GPU at runtime, and works similarly to traditional texture mapping. The RVT caches shading data over large areas, making them a good fit for Landscape shading that uses decal-like materials and splines that are well suited to conform to the terrain.
In this video, I'm gonna create a rocky grassland environment. This is a full workflow tutorial on how to create these environments. Topics include:
Creating the project
New level and basic lighting

Foliage

some asked me about permissions so thanks for your question and concern , according to this tutorial i followed
https://forums.unrealengine.com/t/integrate-google-play-services-with-blueprint/46012
it says i need to add permission
(android.permission.GET_ACCOUNTS)
which lead to this contacts message , but after testing i found that it's useless and removed it , but the update is currently being reviewed by google
and about media / storage
this is the only way for me to save the game settings after target sdk 31 , you can read about it here
https://defconnet.work/en/how-android-save-games-work-ue4-27/
for sorry, google doesnt explain why the app need such permissions so that i can tell users , also i got the badge of "family policies" and +3 age rating
if you still have any concerns you can ask me , if you are still worried about permissions , please wait for the next update to get reviewed by google

I learned a lot about lighting, cubemaps, camera sequences, post processing and much more. The building is made by me, the trees and foliage is from Quixel Megascans.

Nope go as crazy as you like as long as its within the #old-rules
Can we post marketplace stuff here too or?
Sure can
Do game jam entries count as "released projects/products"? Or does it apply only to things released for sale?
Anything that is publically "released" is fine.
Honestly this channel is to just let you guys go if you have something you want to show that is UE4 related.
I assume finished substance/artstation /realtimevfx challenges would also fit?
@sudden folio Yep! As long as it's made with UE4.
@west summit Anything you made with UE4 that's released to the public.
That's a great idea for a channel

Here is a huge template for top down RPG games.
I put lots of work into it and I try to do something complete and modular.
Among many other features you'll find items, inventories, spells, custom damage handling with effects, player stats.... Everything which concerns player can be saved (Stats, equipment,...) and all the features work over the network. And its 100% blueprint.

@tall stream Who made the animations in that project?
@wicked mango I made all the animations myself.
Using blender?
Did you export the UE4 skeleton then work on it?
Yep I use Blender. I explain my workflow here : https://sites.google.com/site/topdownrpgtemplate/documentation/code-design/skeletal-meshes
I use the UE4Tool on blender, then I export my animation to UE4 and retarget them to the default UE4 mannequin.
This solution works well for anim, but if you want to export skeletal meshes and combine them with the default UE4 mannequin (like armors), then this solution is buggy.
You need to export the UE4 mannequin to Blender, make your armor skinning using this skeleton and then export back the armor to UE4 and choose the default UE4 mannequin skeleton for it.
Awesome. I will check it out tomorrow. Cheers!
hi ,
this is my first audio asset pack for UE4 . About this Pack : its all about dark fantasy / sci-fy mood with the main goal to give to the dev. flexibility to use all the music :)
https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/dark-age-music-pack
Hey, i am making ue4 tutorials on my youtube channel 😀 . I have an Advanced Session Steam series combined with a third person shooter series 🔫 (both are in progress) and i make from time to time basic ue4 tutorials.I try to make everything multiplayer supported🔌 Maybe it helps someone, I would be very happy about a visit on my channel: https://www.youtube.com/NiceShadow
You might want to have commentary on those videos. There's not much of educational value to just watching someone doing his/her thing w/o commentary which explains the steps in more detail etc. Also lowering the music's volume would be beneficial. It's not meant to lessen your effort, just a benevolent hint. @cosmic harness
Found out about some bugs so I will repost the project later today, or tomorrow if it's really hard to fix
@finite hornet , thank you for your comment, unfortunately my english is not so good that I can make the videos in English (I'm German and only 17 ^^) but I definitely want to add my voice in the future. Thanks also for the tip with the music, I'll adapt it in the next videos: D

that sounds nice
tip for the future
show off before the tutorial
i want to see what i will learn before hand
I will do that also i should be more confident 😛 also if you have ideas for what i should do in the future let me know ^^
Good point. Will do it from now on!
and pls dont waste time with epic launcher
if people cant figure that out then they are not worth our time
Good point.
I do dont worry 😛
❤
i would love more movement shit
but
theres alot alot things
you need to figure out what you want to show
and multiplayer is a thing that you shouldnt inheritenly put in your tutorials
it makes things harder to understand
people come for basics
they will learn multiplayer rpc later
Well i could split it into a singleplayer part and a mp part
So have first how to set it up for single player and then multiplayer (but in one video)
profit
I dont care about profit i like to keep my stuff clean and dont want to spam posts
Dont split up stuff you could have done in a single tutorial
Lets take this conversation to pms so we dont clutter this chat.
explaining why you do something makes the best tutorial, because people learn what theyre doing then, if you just say do this and that and it works then they dont learn anything, just a tip i heard from blender guru who makes amazing tutorials
i followed your tips @dull path and @steady dagger i went mor in depth with everything

did you take any inspiration from warhammer 40k perchance?
@vague zealot
@undone fossil no 😃 I looked at the warhammer tanks only during texturing. I basically inspired by these two guys from the Battletech https://sun1-9.userapi.com/c830208/v830208028/17bfe5/f7SCO0m2m68.jpg https://sun1-18.userapi.com/c830208/v830208028/17bfee/k3CuF4ye39o.jpg
nice
have you looked at the artwork for planetery ahnilliation?
your stuff reminded me of it as well
still, pretty neat design
@undone fossil No. Does TA have any interesting design? How I remember there is all very cube & cylinder like =)))
some of the titans have some very intricate designs
very stylized, but they also look very nice
quite minimalistic
their style was also compilmented by their shading techniques as well
so the game fit together very well visually
funily enough one of the titans was called ATLAS
@undone fossil 😃 I called him Atlas in honor of this boi from Battletech =)) (ooh. loooks like i really take too many from battletech. =))))) ) http://orig12.deviantart.net/635f/f/2013/178/4/1/atlas_by_spooky777-d6ayj1u.jpg
@vague zealot very nicely done!

i want to make tutorials too but idk if it will work without talking, due to my voice being terrible
Id not reccomend it its mainly important that you bring things across and actually teach people something wich is really hard to do with video and text.
I mean you could always make text based tutorials with images.

a couple snapshots of the work i've done in my spare time in the past month. (Looking for work always)
these textures have baked albedos for use in older game engines, or mobile platforms. I also do it because I just like the aesthetic
baked albedo's? isnt that just a diffuse?
for the most part yes.
justice gun looks rad
thanks, man. i spent a good bit in zbrush on that one. 3 hours, but still a good bit
not too bad hehe
they all do have versions that are PBR though.

@unreal herald looks really nice, would be good to have a quick shot of the shader complexity, maybe even showing the effect of different slice count on the output
20 slices is a pretty good slice amount and takes up about 0.7ms in this scene @hollow field
No need to see overdraw since its completely white as would be expected
0.7ms on what? a 1080?
1070
I'm curious how something weaker would go. Also would it work with the temporal dither thing instead of translucent?
possibly
it's in motion so it might be ok
Would look like crap though i'd guess
I really dislike the way dithering looks personally, but it could work potentially
on a 1080 it runs about the same ms count
I think this is a viable option for small rooms, nothing large like a sky.
And looking back I do think I made a mistake by not changing slices/height to show what it would look like
I'm doing a top down project so I might be able to get away with a bit more
thanks for sharing, it looks cool
@gray yarrow problem I see that don't work as a lens flare should be, as just get out on the screen corner etc

I forgot to actually post this here...
Trailer for NV Spline Tools - an easy-to-use and fully customisable system for placing and shaping meshes along a spline for Unreal Engine 4. It is available...
Amazing
I wanted to use some splinemeshes, but didn't like how the easy way meant stretching one mesh between each point (which would stretch everything unless the point were placed exactly the right distance apart)
So I made that system, then realised that a generic system to repeat meshes along a spline might be generally useful to people and thought I'd put it up on the Marketplace too

@carmine junco why have you reviewed your own game giving it 5 stars you scumbag?
@steady dagger Read the #old-rules, respect other members of the community, your attitude and that comment is completely unwarranted.
@steady dagger 1. What DevilsD said
2. Because everyone does it and you're at a significant disadvantage in the search algorithms if you don't
cant one like its own game? 😦
You obiously have to hate it after working on it for 3-5 years straight, replaying the same stuff over and over again to solve that last annoying bug.
can't wait to write a "not recommended" steam review to my own game 🤔
"I am the creator and this game SUCKS"
"The creator is bad and he/she should feel bad." - The creator
im sorry but thats shady making reviews about your own products to get people to buy, if you all saw that on amazon or ebay a seller had posted reviews on each one would you defend that?
on all their own products i mean
Sellers not only posts reviews about their products, but also spreads their reviews all over the world in different forms and places. Moreover, it's called an advertisement, which is part of the whole marketing.
no its not an ad, its supposed to a review from someone who has paid/downloaded the game and giving their genuine thoughts on it
Nowadays, it's quite a standard you like your own posts even automatically, like on reddit.
@steady dagger Huge difference between reviewing your own product, once, and making multiple astroturfed reviews.
You don't want to do it or don't like it, that's fine. 🤷 I get your angle.
well theres two with the last name of the publisher, probably a relatives google accout
they could all be fake who knows?
Not you, that's for sure.

Making your own reviews on steam is punishable by not only possible deletion of the game from steam but also banning the publisher. Reviewing your own product is bad taste, and explanation " everyone is doing this" is childish.
Eh, I think the general response here to it is childish, honestly
It's a released section people are commenting about the product and or publisher of the product, it's a perfect place to respond. Let other developer see what other developer think.
That's not the part I'm calling childish, I think it's childish and ignorant to be adamant that people cannot review there own stuff. In a perfect world the fact that everyone does it doesn't mean you probably should too, but in a case like this you're at a disadvantage and it'd actively work against you if you didn't do it
I get the idealistic point of view, but unfortunately that's not really how the world works 👀
I don't actively approve or anything, let's get that straight
But as long as literally the entire mobile industry works that way I'm not going to get worked up over one particular person doing it
1 review will not change much but will showcase a bad taste or very unprofesional behavior
In the case of having one review or no reviews it changes a lot
(I would type a bookwork explaining that here, but I'm on my phone, so that's not happening)
You need reviews you give few free copies on the developers forum and ask for honest review if you cant spend few bucks on getting honest reviews than you dont believe in your work anyway.
I thought this channel was for sharing released projects and products
where is it written that a dev cannot review its own product @formal goblet ?
On steam its prohibited there are even entire youtube channels that hunt for such developers.
thats not a awnser to my question though
Check it on google im to busy now if you wont find it contack me later i will help you out
When one makes a claim without being able to back it up with a legit source, all I can think of is the famous Trump answer: Fake news
The amount of info about this topic is so large you not being able to find it is called lazyness or stupidity
Actually, you make a claim without backing it up with a source
there is nothing in here that says "Devs may not write a review on their own product"
The only line that may come near to such a thing is Don’t attempt to abuse or artificially manipulate the review system., which still isn't excluding devs from writing their own review in all honesty
A developer's been permabanned from Steam and all their games removed after trying to rig reviews of their game to sell more copies. Written By: Brian Gaar E...
That is A) Not a legit steam source
and B) see my previous post
Don’t attempt to abuse or artificially manipulate the review system.
Making your own reviews on your own product is exactly what manipulating your steam product score review is exactly
It's not, only when you start making multiple reviews with dishonesty
``` https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/0/1696046976474191051/
I dont recall words that you aren't allowed to review your own game. But ofc as soon as it's multiple accounts you will get booted from Steam.
Unless you can show a legit Steam source that states its prohibited for Developers to drop a review on their own product: Dont spread disinformation
I show you video that presents people actually being banned from steam for fake reviews and you show me steam post that starts with i dont think that. Like i said im busy we can talk about this later simply contack me in few hours
I started with a official Steam guide: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/reviews
which has 0 mentions of developers being prohibited from leaving a own review
You're the one who claims its prohibited, show a official Steam source with that statement
the post I quoted is from a Steam Community moderator by the way
The only line that may come near to such a thing is Don’t attempt to abuse or artificially manipulate the review system., you post it your self if you dont understand what manipulating steam review means than we have nothing more to talk about
The marketplace for example even allows you to rate your own product, as their way of allowing it is through owning it.
And the creator owns it, thus every new entry has a 5 star rating
If it's really good practice to review your own games.. is another question entirely of course. I know, I wouldn't do it.
Ofcourse, it is morally questionable when a Dev reviews its own product, doesn't mean it is prohibited
Does GoogleStore work similar or is the account you play with not linked to your seller account?
It's really up to the store and if you do so, then go ahead, do all you can that is allowed to market your game.
Lionardvandaag om 10:59
The only line that may come near to such a thing is Don’t attempt to abuse or artificially manipulate the review system., you post it your self if you dont understand what manipulating steam review means than we have nothing more to talk about```
lmao... 1 review manipulating the whole reviewing system? Do **you** even know how it works? 😂
Only cases I can find within a few google search pages that Valve booted developers is when multiple employees write fake reviews or when they 'buy' fake reviews. None of those cases are where a Developer wrote 1 review for his own game ¯_(ツ)_/¯
So, no official Steam source that states its prohibited that a dev write a review for his own game and no (recent) known case where a dev got ban hammered from Steam for leaving a review behind on his own game
conclusion: Its allowed to review your own game
Why go off on such a mission to disprove one single statement? The overall point was clearly that this is a shitty thing to do.
Because its fun
someone makes a claim without a legit source, spreading disinformation and poof urban myths
Plus... im at work and got bored ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Congrats. I'd say the consensus of people scrambling to justify something that is so clearly an attempt to deceive potential customers, because they've done it themselves, or would do it for personal gain, is one of the more depressing things I've ever read on here.
Well, I agree on the part that its a shitty thing to do and morally questionable when a dev does it
I really don't understand why this conversation belongs in 'released'
I don't understand much around here though
I think that the assumption that we've done it ourselves or would do it for personal gain is one of the more depressing things I've read on here @silent zenith
I wouldn't, I don't really agree with reviewing your own products
I just don't think it's reasonable to call someone names over it without giving any other input on what he's asked, especially if it's something basically everyone in the mobile industry does
This entire discussion unfolded, and I'm pretty sure half of the participants have completely missed the actual conversation-starter
all devs ask their friends to leave some initial reviews
becouse its just so critical if you are small
if you are big with a hypefest there already, no issue
but those first 2-3 reviews are incredibly critical
^
That was basically my point
Especially since everyone does it, it's not viable to not do it
Because you'll be at a major disadvantage to everyone else
All I've come to understand by reading this is that people think it's morally wrong to TRY boosting your success rate by doing One review + asking a few friends review your work. Which may have taken thousands of hours, blood - sweat & tears.
Guess I would be counted as a person with bad moral. For the sole purpose of wanting my work to be successful
@versed nexus How dare you trying to be successful and sell units of your game? 😠
10/10 IGN costs just 25k
@small lintel My apologies! Should have thought about all the other millions of developers & their games that I have to compete with...
😄
This is a room I've been working on in unreal engine 4. It is based off of this concept art by John Sweeney https://www.artstation.com/artwork/LYxP
@steady dagger about two of the same surname being on the reviews, I got my brother to play and review my game, and he gave a legit review and criticism. Excuse me for trying to get my game more publicity, but in my opinion a developer that rates their own game badly clearly does not care about their product.
its not possible for your brother to give an unbiased review is it?
No, in the same way if someone criticises my favourite football team on a reddit discussion, It will be hard for me to give an unbiased view.
If discussions were purely only for unbiased views, you’d have a lot less “discussion” or sharing of views
If you get what I’m saying
not really
I’m saying that it’s not fair for my brother to be disallowed or shunned for sharing his opinion on my game purely because he’s my relative
His review should be seen in the same light as someone else’s, even if it may or may not be biased. As long as it’s not some random spam then it’s fine imo. If you read the review he’s given some criticism like any other player would.
at the end of the day its manipulating your rating to make money
if your fine with that then ok thats up to you, but you cant dress it up as anything else
@steady dagger Are you a game developer?
i am making a game but "aspiring" is probably more accurate right now
So... Just starting out?
yeah
Then I guess your opinion should be forgiven. You will understand with time.
I've given out quite a number of free copies of my Unity products (since Unity actually supports that) and they all still say they don't have enough reviews to show a rating
Getting ratings is hard.
@cyan hill so if anything is hard its ok to cheat?
Generally, if people like your product, they have no reason to come back to the store page
You're the one who calls this or that cheating, and as far as I can see, you were not able to post any rules it was in violation of
if it's in compliance with the respective store's rules, it's not cheating
also steam shows whether the reviewer got the game for free and people can then decide how much they trust the review
Love how the 'released' channel is 99% not people posting things they have released
lmfao
Personal opinion = manipulation? 🤦
That's one of most ridiculous statements I red here.
Making your own reviews on your own product is exactly what manipulating your steam product score review is exactly
While I agree with Benio 100% that you should not write a review for your own product I think its really trivial in this case. When I saw the review my immediate assumption was that it was one of their family members who played the game and I don't see that as dishonest even though its obviously biased. If they made fake accounts named something different to spam 5 stars then I would agree with your level of resentment.
Who gets to be the arbiter of which reviews are biased and which are not?
@tulip oak If you think that reviews are misleading, just don't read them. You can't forbid someone making review just because he's biased more or less.
Any review could be biased
The ones that are not for self gain of the product producer or benfitical?
All reviews should be removed
Well you cant do that because you cant know, so you look what has the most value for manipulation and put stops in
Ie
Description of game is also biased! Remove description!
Self reviewing
If you are related to the developer you basically aren't a person and should not have an opinion
Desc of game is driven by producer not the same as info wrote from users
Producer vs consumer is different
That's not true. You can write description as a review. And producer can be consumer, too.
You write more and more false statements.
Wow. I didn't expect any deep discussion about releasing products to happen here.
I think its obvious being related to someone will make you much more likely to say nice things about a game they made regardless of if you actually like it. thats what people are referring to when they say that they have more bias.
Something I've released... In the 'released' channel!?
Btw, click on my product for an example of an actual biased review
Many developers did not ever played "the whole game" during developing stage, especially they had no occasion to experience the full game gameplay, so once they ship it, they often becomes consuments, and they have a holy right o write their own review.
Err no how can a block of general information for consumer be the same as block of info giving feedback and self experiance by consumer be the same? Apple != orange
Wtf are u mad
Mant devs did not ever play whole game
Have u lost your marbles
How do y work on something with out testing it
This discussion is devolving into randomness
I guess it's true for big studios
^
I just wanted a channel where I see what products people have released and share my own.
U would 100% still have to test tour work
I have about a decade of professional experience btw
Yeah, if I implemented an animation, I will test that the animation works
I will not be spending 8 hours before each push playing the whole game over
Well not shit but thats not same thing
If my job is some kind of backend I might not ever touch gameplay
Saying devs dont play there game != 8 hour play test every push
"Wtf are u mad
Mant devs did not ever play whole game
Have u lost your marbles"
"whole game"
Well yeah ofc not thats pretty abstract
Im not even gonna bother replying this is karol 3.0 level shit, troll center
Thanks for the chat
If you see your own quotes as trolling, I think that makes you the troll
I think it's worth noting that evidence suggests you probably shouldn't review your own games on Steam.
The last review is in captivity. The galaxy is at peace.
If your game launches with no reviews in the first few days, that's probably an sign that there are problems you can't fix by adding one or more reviews from the people who made the game.
I wouldn't review my own stuff, but I also wouldn't tell every acquaintance of mine they were blacklisted from giving their opinion.
You can't.
I think we began this discussion to see if you can or not review your own game, not if you should or not.
I see no evidence to the statement that we can't.
I think you can but if you do steam will not like it.
But there is evidence that you shouldn't, and I think that's more important.
Well, every dev who works on a game must play the whole game, so shows what you know.
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
@cyan hill That's obviously not true.
@novel dragon whats the evidence that ypu shpuldnt?
Apparently it wasn't very obvious.
@fathom kraken There are documented cases of Valve pulling games because the developers submitted positive reviews for their own games.
i will accept that as feasible evidenxe
If its against the TOS then they should be pulled
In contrast, I know of no documented cases where someone reviewing their own game had a positive impact.
Maybe I could dig one up with enough research, but that's where I stand right now based on the evidence.
i think commenting on a bad review would be a better option? try to reach out and provide support to the angry client
I agree. That's far more productive.
That's kinda sorta what I did on Xell
I totally understand why someone might release a game, see no reviews, get scared and take drastic measures. I just don't think this is a drastic measure worth taking, given the evidence and the high risk factor.
i dont have much experienxe but i once wrote a bad review about a game and they replied ans told me how to get over my issues, and thej i changed it to positive
Steam customers at least probably don't feel entitled for you to work for them for free after they buy your product
"I bought PUBG, build a shed for me and I will give 5 stars."
well i meant stardew valley and they helped me in a sense of letting me know i could sell my items next to the house
Revieving ur stuff positively can flag ur account
Use other acc and IP
Or dont do it
Any evidence for that?
Its a thing I released
are you making these? if so ypu must be having loads of fun
Me?
answering to negative steam reviews is a common practice
some player uses steam review system as bug report tool btw, that is a bit annoying imo (for me as another player)
@cyan hill those are some absolutely terrible marketplace preview images :p
yea, id add soem clear screenshots
The question is not "Are they terrible?" so much as it is "Are they more terrible than any other screenshots I do?" lol
animations is kinda bad made on this M79 for 20 euro is too much, but good job about model and other stuff
Anything specific about the animations I can improve?
I quit my job as a Senior Software Engineer to start development of this SciFi strategy game on August 1st, 2018. I am a single developer. I stream it's development everyday, and plan to work on this game for the next 5 years. Kickstarter is in November 15th, Alpha release is on December 15th. This also for anyone here that is interested in actual UE4 development of a full production videogame (I record it all 100%), or if you like to play RTS games.
The game is now playable today. Servers are up 24/7. Multiplayer is working, if you wanna play bring some friends cuz this game is 5v5 (or 2v2 min) Download link: https://syedaman.itch.io/genesis
Check out my search engine for unreal engine 4 developers. Where you only find unreal engine related Websites.
The search engine you were waiting for as Unreal Engine 4 Developer.
not sure how it is better than using google properly
maybe im doing it wrong 😄
first 5 results are ads which have nothing to do with unreal 🤷
lmfao
looks like its just to make $
dont bother with it
also it wont pick up really specific stuff
like when a class name that is super rare in use will only return hits to sites like the Chinese help ones which u have to translate
yeah
confirmed
its shit
get 5 adds
and 0 good return
searching for FDesignerSurfaceElement
@stuck hare
Sry for the ads, but I can not disable or reduce them they are from Google. Only Non-Profit-Organisations can run custom search with out ads. And for now, i dont know how hard it to get this status from google. But i think it would be great to finance this project with no ads and with other ways like patreon. If You know Any way to block the ads i have No Problem with it for now i earn no money from the ads.
Well your search does not even work
i get no results back for FDesignerSurfaceElement
i get the wiki / doc and thats it
@tulip oak
For example what results or website did you wanted ?
anything to do with the FDesignerSurfaceElement
just returning white listed websites just makes it a bit pointless
What Browser do you use for now I mostly testet it on chrome and Firefox.
chrome
lol
@stuck hare One does not simply disable adblock 🙃
@rugged wasp how is that resource different from just using google with ue4 c++ <query> or ue4 bp <query>?
or, for that matter, ue4 sequencer <query>, etc
I had it enabled 🤷 not sure what happened
The normal ad blocker cannot block google ads.
Or there is no ad blocker that can block Google ads.
@short sandal You can only find the links I've added to the search filter, but the search algorithm is the same as Google's. Currently, unreal Search is mainly searching the forum and some other websites. But If you know any good websites that I should add to the search engine you can tell me that.
Iunno, seems kinda moot tbh
You're only ever filtering out resources. A blacklist would be better than a whitelist. For instance, you could blot out results from known sources of malinformation
perhaps a bit overboard, but I just don't see the point in whitelisting particular links.
I mean, I'm likely to just open VS and search the code - or use the method I mentioned earlier.
If you want your search to kick off and be useful, you need to figure out how to beat standard google fu
am I wrong tho
Programming a own good algorithm is a way to hard. But unreal engine-4-specific synonyms and other rank priorities can make a difference.
idk i tested it and its only ever blocked good results google has pushed through
AdBlock plus does not block all ads, use ublock origin
AdNauseum is ublock's fork that actually clicks ads in background so it's impossible to detect it, and authors still gets paid for our clicks. It's a win-win situation, because we don't see ads, and authors still gets paid from ads. And ublock removes ads income from authors.
But it's officially banned, because it's too good and undetectable.
that is why I said ublock origin by gorhill
"officially banned" by who?
It seems like chrome's latest update makes it become unusable while my current adblock is turned on, so I'm in the market for a replacement
Oh, I see. Google thinks it can prevent me from installing it on Chrome
I pref ublock origin as well
@edgy saddle That sounds like it'd end up supporting ads for things you don't necessarily want to support, though... but this whole subject doesn't seem like #released subject matter.
And I am a day late to this. Woops.
Rule The World pre-alpha is now free for testing, theres a couple of hours of gameplay already and the system is fully functional for up to 4 players local featuring auto shared/splitscreen... support your local gamedev by playing and providing valuable feedback & criticism.
@fathom kraken Ill check it out. I did notice in the video for scrolling plane section that the scrolling gets a bit choppy when the 2nd plane is present and then gets smoother when they crash.
@subtle crag ok thanks
its most likely the compression/recording screen factor, and not anything game related
or even delayed screenshake now that i keep watching it
Just popped this one up now:
https://www.artstation.com/artwork/gZAEx
amazing work!
Have you any plans to use this Charakter
@haughty temple well made man looks great, what process did you use for the skin painting?
oh nice, hand painted?
@tulip oak hand painted seamless skin texture done in Photoshop later converted it to a smart material in substance painter
Very nice man gj
@tulip oak thanks ! Any job or contract work related to 3D Modeling , rigging and animation let me know. 😃
Gosh, that one looks soo good ! 😮 Nice work !
@haughty temple show us the wireframe
Option A. You made the models and don't even pose it properly.<even if you're animator> And you improved your texturing and modeling skills in 5 months x10
Option B. You used Daz3D or Poser using the base Genesis woman character or Victoria 4 and even applied a default pose made for normal boots and you don't even noticed the foots are wrong placed
@haughty temple tell me what will be
Is fine if you make poses etc if you own the tools and software in legal ways, but you should say what actually used cause Artstation don't say nothing about it
I have removed it from my profile it was a project i had to do as a freelance character artist client was ok with daz props .
yea it was for a short film the client was going to use it anyways.still i am not sure about the licenses it was purchased and that is all the information i have need to check the licenses.
I wasnt sure
@flint flint I saw some sliding guy when walking :p
Nice work btw 😃 Nice for you to get it on a song published by Monstercat, that's huge !
@sterile ether yeah haha lots of little things like that but deadlines!
@torpid turret thank you! 😃
@flint flint awesome, how the hell you did the lens flares from the lights helicopter etc, are from the new bloom system or ?
@worn violet yeah looks like convolution bloom
looks awesome, but performance is horrible, so only usable for pre rendered stuff
yeah but that other than cinematics is a nightmare
the video is 4k and you can notice the engine errors with blur/aa
on the chopper mainly
yeah
that said, motion blur on rotations never looked good in unreal
it will once they implement that radial blur stuff we talked about a few weeks ago
well they did better before, they replaced the motion blur, before wasn't this thing but whole screen thing
now you can't get blur for full screen
other than making a custom shader
@worn violet Thanks! Yeah it’s just the convolution bloom system, since it only hat to hit 24fps at 4K I could get away with it
@torpid turret they are implementing a new motion blur???
wait you captured your video in realtime ?
I would love that
It ran real-time but I cached out pngs for better control in post
Post being basic color correction in premiere 😄
hmm
so you haven't used the sequence exporter ?
also, no idea if they are actively devving it at Epic for the blur, but there was some samples popping on twitter not so long ago
thing is, Alan is now at Magic Leap, he left Epic 😅
@torpid turret yeah I did use the sequencer exporter set to png
And ah I hope they get back to it
It’s the one area that suffers pretty heavily for cinematics
yeah
would love some smooth per object motion blur
afaik you don't need to run realtime to export with the sequencer exporter
you can have a scene running at 10fps and still be able to render at 4k60fps
@torpid turret yeah that’s true but it feels terrible working at 10fps and is really hard to time things and see how it’ll look
Feels much nicer working at 60+FPS then rendering 4K 24fps
I don’t know how offline render people have the patience to be honest, not being able to see final pixels. UE4 is a real game changer in that regard even if it can’t achieve the same quality, but things will improve with the RTX stuff
Especially if you’ll be able to just crank sample settings at render time but work nicely in real-time
Yeah cannot wait !
Hi! I just released my game, Hello Math, on Google Play.
It's a simple math game where players need to solve math problems within the time limit.
Synopsis:
People couldn't process numbers the way they used to be.
A slight exposure caused extreme dizziness and nausea.
The exact cause was unknown, but scientists believed it was a side effect of technological advancement.
During that time, a certain organization came up with an experiment to raise children who could withstand math.
They called it, operation "Hello Math".```
Please kindly try it if you have some free time.
Feedbacks and reviews are greatly appreciated!
@spare elm what engine did you make that in?
a lot of people have suffered testing the earlier versions so that you don't have to.. now its just pure fun! be a mouse, enjoy nature, surf the sewers, fly in your dreams, escape crazy nightmare mazes while Mr.Grabby tries to touch you.. wait this isn't one of those new steam adult games is it? heck no or I'd be rich by now.. this is: Rat Tale
@fathom kraken It's UE4.
Oh wow thats pretty cool
Math is great!
40mb, nice
I played beginner math @spare elm
I must be dumb and slow especially at this hour lol
I would have liked more visual feedback when you get a right or wrong answer
Haha, thanks for trying!
Hmm, true. It's very basic in terms of visual effect.
Gonna look for a way to improve it.
I guess this qualifies as "project" 😄 https://github.com/0lento/UnrealEngine/tree/4.20-GameWorks
that's basically custom ports from Nvidia's 4.19 techs running on 4.20.3 and merged in single repo
it could probably be possible to include now that there isn't VXGI merged to it
but it would be still hard considering it will most likely clash with other rendering related techs
I looked at it in the 4.18 days and it wasn't a task one would just take "for fun" 😄
main issue with VRWorks is tho that I don't even have proper gear to test it with
Haha I know I'm kiddin :p
hey that Pontiac isn't in your garage @oblique ridge ! 😃
@torpid turret no it's parked outside the last few weeks 😄
😄
@wraith forge the trailer seems a bit slow, might i reccommend cutting clips together faster and possibly speeding them up as well. it would make it seem faster and would catch attention better
also the music should probably be a bit lowder imo
@undone fossil thanks for the feedback! Yeah, we're going to change it a little, maybe even put the action earlier
Looks fun @wraith forge
@molten radish ... werent you guys working on another top down game? This 1 Looks fun as well
@fathom kraken that's the same game!
@sturdy dome why not just upload the .exe on itch.io
nevermind, i see you want to show your work as well...
im just lazy
so now i have to download you project to redeem myself
good idea uploading the prototype to itch
but the entire point of it is to be an example project for learning purposes
all the code is commented and the architecture is explained
thats great, im going to take a look, thanks
guys it's better to release my first game free or not
free, probably
The lifetime of my game is between 45 minutes - 1 hour. I still spent a total of $200 on its creation and distribution.
And I've been working on it since early July.
well its yor choice, not mine
ya got a trailer for it?
yes sure but can you explain to me why you would say free
@short sandal this weekend i will release it in few weeks
@short sandal yes but not really gamer sadly
@silver terrace
what game/got a link?
I don't know man, your first game with no testers - kind of short.
Might be a case for free.
@short sandal Actually, maybe I also wanted to release a suite if it sold well.
what do you mean?
*a sequel
If I make enough money with this game I thought I'd reinvest in a sequel
Yeah, based on what you've said, i'd go free
CityBattle - is a battle of thousands of cities for dominance. Become a battle robot pilot in the army of your virtual city in a free-to-play session-based MMOFPS on Unreal Engine 4. Participate in intense 5 vs 5 battles, upgrade your robots, play in tournaments, create diffe...
anything less than this i'd say go free
assuming your game is a shooter
@hexed marlin is it your game?
nah
@short sandal @hexed marlin thank you for your opinions. I think I'll keep the "free" model. I didn't do it for the money at the base and it will allow more feedback from the players.
yeah, getting a free game out there is a good idea imo
it'll be too steep to get new players on board with a payment, and if you read into the player analytics you'll see that new players drops significantly as soon as you make any payment; whether $1, $2 or $5
@hexed marlin ok tahnks
@silver terrace Frankly, it's better not to release a first game commercially
Free is fine, since a first game will always suck, no offense
I'd put it on something like Itch, get some players to review it, improve on it a bit
As to money, a regular well-built game on Steam with a decent trailer and some marketing will do something like 100 copies these days
No trailer means you're going for zero sales anyway
@astral dust thank you for you advice 😉
Agreed
I know a guy that's made a steady supplemental income stream from selling on steam
and his game is pretty bad, no offense
he is a single father though
His biggest boost in sales came from a youtube channel that made a video playing his terrible game
We're making steady supplemental income too, but the data say it's not really common
And it's been getting way, way worse in the past three years
passive income 😄
Well, we just released our game on Steam after a year in Early Access
Build your fleet, trade, explore and conquerHelium Rain is a single-player space simulation that places you at the helm of a spacefaring company. Trade resources, buy ships and stations to fulfill contracts ! Dock at stations to buy and sell you wares or upgrade your ship, up...
$14.99
That was a long, long project
can you share anything about your sales @astral dust ?
does the review * 50 works well to estimate sold copies in your case?
Yeah, it does. We're at 3500-ish IIRC
also, what do you think about early access as noname indie?
won't people just assume that you won't finish the game?
as a customer I would be very careful with a noname studio's early access title if there isn't much activity around it 😢
They definitely do just that. Still, some tried. Those who were into it but didn't want an EA title wishlisted it
I see, thanks
@astral dust Looks like an X game. Am interested. 'grats!
Thanks ! It kind of is like an X game, in some regards
The code is there, too, for you C++ maniacs
Please don't judge me (:
Congrats on the release!
Thanks
👍
btw @astral dust did you check my hovercraft game that i open sourced too? Thats what "i" think its good design
there is no MP
its mostly designed as an example of "gofast" workflow
C++ utilities/base on a blueprint game
ok
funny enough, this was made before epic games showed their "blueprints + C++" article in the documentation
but uses something very similar
@astral dust build commands?????????????
yo thats seriously good shit
Eheh
thanks a lot mate, im stealing that
including git version code.. amazing
can do you similar with perforce?
i will try to make that thing work with my game, with pc and ps4 builds
python is just so damn good for small scripts, really
i should use it more
i have a book i got from humble
it shows how to create small automation scripts for business stuff
like "lets send a mail to 20 people with changing names, by using the names from a excel file" and things like that
or "create a program that creates a pdf invoice automatically from a template"
gets much more powerful once you start using generators and the more advanced optimizations for performance boosts on large datasets. Simplest case range vs xrange which can be used for magnitude of millions/billions in any position. Another example would be chunking a 4GB file for # of lines in an instant
somewhat amused that Maya started nerfing their MEL and Python hook-ins. Guess they realized you could do a lot more with python than their inner app for advanced animations/etc
at least for the lower tier full license*
thanks for posting the reference projects @astral dust and @sturdy dome . Will go through them more after some sleep
also, cool projects folks!
@astral dust you still frontpaged on r/games
thats basically the best you can do in reddit
r/gaming is much more memey, but r/games is home of more serious players, so being frontpaged there should get you lots of high value traffic
/r/pcgaming got us loads of traffic
oh, its even more popular there
160 comments
also, damn good launching point
right when star citizien does news, so people are looking at the forums and similar
do you have details about the traffic?
given its pretty much a "best case scenario" reddit advertising execution
It's pretty good, we've had something like 10k views per hour
Translating to something like 500 sales since yesterday
thanks for the freebie @astral dust
nice
did you see my big tank?! D:
i played
was nice
but you have to learn alot.
that icon thingy... you can fix it under project settings, tragetted platforms - windows
your footsteps are just a sound that starts playing when starting to walk XD
my system recognizes the ground
so when you jump you make 2 steps
different volumes for sound
I have only 1 ground type :200iq:
You have to teach me how to make footsteps properly
And if I would've had more ground types I would have actually had different sound per type
And you can't jump in my game :300iq:
i am in for it!
But you will teach me how to do footsteps right
ofc
I will dm you tomorrow
ok
And you will give me footstep sound effects too because finding sfx is pain in the ass
(last step is optional)
good night spooks.
Spoopy night xd
and the options menu worked better XD
why did you remove the resolution slider
and didnt remove motionblur
there is no motion blur in scarecrows
@steady dagger can you pls rate it 4/5 or 5/5 xd
sure
it might feel blurry because of fog, chromatic aberration and grain maybe?
and there is resolution option
but you dont need to see very good in fog :200iq:
@dull path lets migrate to #lounge
This is the official trailer for Drone Striker, brought to you by Winking Corp "To save the human race, we can only count on ourselves." Genre: Action, FPS, ...
Here's a PSVR game we released a few days ago on PSVR. It's a on-rails first person shooter game. Go check it out!
Also we're giving Sony half a year of exclusitivity so even though I know the trailer says Steam in it, the game won't be released on Steam until early next year and is currently only avaiable on PSVR
