I don't believe there's any language requirements as part of the submission (it is an international store after all). Having said that; I do think that whatever languages you advertise a product in you should be able to provide support for. Awhile back I had issues with a plugin where the questions I had just weren't being answered because there was a language barrier and the guy was just using google translate.

Yes, you can share Marketplace products with your team but only for the limited purpose of the project that you are jointly developing. Content pooling or sharing products between developers outside of your organization is prohibited. Team members also cannot use products in an unlimited fashion for their own projects.

How do you guys go about gauging the interest for the product you are selling and how do you set the price? I'm working on a component and I'm wondering how I'm going to go about that since I'd like to put it on the marketplace : )

Think of something that you think is interesting / useful, make it, pick a price out of the air based on how much similar-type assets cost and how long you spent making it, then watch as no one buys it at all

having a cover image that's 75%+ not your stuff is not okay
it's a hard topic, might be better to just forbid using non asset elements in the main images at all just for the sake of simplicity of rules

@sleek needle The rule is that you may use Epic content as long as it is not the focus of what you are selling. If this was not the case, 99% of all packs would not be legit. Just think about the UE4 Mannequin that is in almost all projects :D

Digital Human eye textures were allowed, but the materials themselves are not to my knowledge

Afaik mannequin along with other template stuff is free to redist even outside the launcher. But ue only content is not

So I'm getting ready to submit a product on the UE4 Marketplace and I read this rule that says I have to have a top level folder containing everything. The Day Night cycle is multiplayer ready (network synced) and lightweight. There is no overdraw, all done in 1 shader and blueprint.

Hey guys: Introducing a new pack from yours truly - The Targeting System.
The Targeting System is a complete solution for customized, directional targeting in UE4. Designed from the ground up for ease of use, all of its functionality is detailed in a single, plug and play component.
It uses the AI Perception System to perceive targets, and sorts the targets onto 3 categories:
- the most ideal actor to target immediately;
- actors to the left of the targeted actor;

so, if you want to play safe, better not grab anything from these sites

but yeah, people who make marketplace content don't always understand even basic legal things
I dunno, for actual game art, it would be nice to do it from scratch to make sure it's unique

does anyone knows what is currently wanted/needed at the marketplace?
I want to create something useful, next to an mocap animation pack i am working on atm, but most of the stuff is already a thousand times on there 🙄
For example I worked on a inventory and item pick up toolkit with hotkey functions and a item bar but fully customizable since all the logic is stored in a single actor component and a function lib but i just dont know if its worth it spending so much time at assets which are out there in mass.
So would like if some of you have any ideas or opinions about this or even a special wish 😄
heh, the marketplace has thousands of packs...I'm not sure anyone knows "what is needed" at this point

One thing I noticed was missing, though I have no idea if anyone else would possibly be interested in this, (it's just something that I myself would like to use at some point) is a really nice lava effect
And that proves the exact problem I mentioned - I know it doesn't exist, but only know of exactly one person who might buy it

I find that there are a lot of anination packs out there but they are mostly general and many are looking for some more specific packs.

There's a bunch of stylised lava stuff, but (IIRC) no realistic lava effect which has the full effects like particles, little explosions, sloshes
I don't really know about animation packs, that's not something I've really looked at myself
I'd consider making more blueprint-type stuff myself, but the last pack I made has sold exactly one unit since I launched it in May, so I'm a bit disillusioned with the whole thing (though I didn't advertise it as much as I should have)
I searched for some climb and hurt animations but they are as said mostly generalized for ladders and stuff.
so i started to do animations with mocap on my own.
Dont know how selling works on marketplace yet but maybe start with free and then change price once you added and changed content of the packs
A random suggestion might be picking-up animations, I don't see a pack for those
Again, just a random thought off the top of my head, I have no idea if anyone would buy it
I would say what is missing is the same thing that is missing from Unity, comprehensive characters with a wide range of armors and looks that also have matching environments of the same style

dec 31 2022 is the tentative deadline 😜 i brought it up because when i looked, the options were not good. the hardest part for my horse, is making it respond like a horse and not a hover board.

And Mixamo for animation rigs which you can then apply to the characters.
If not you'd have to either create your own, or pay someone else to do the work.
A bit late for this, but I always just find 3d models online from like turbo squid or another source and just rig them myself. I know its not an easy fix but rigging is a LOT easier (to do on a basic level) than it seems.
Hey guys I'm looking for something to make creating a landscape material more easily than creating these myself. Ideally I'd like to import a World Machine heightmap and feed some information in through there. Do you think I'd be better off just using slope masks or something to get some basic painting done and try expand from there or would it be worth using something like brushify or auto landscape material V2? I heard that they can have some serious performance hits but that's all anecdotal so I'm wondering what your thoughts about those solutions are! Also if there are any other solutions you know if I haven't bought anything yet so I'm still open to any suggestions!
I'm looking to develop in VR so performance is definitely a concern but if people with performance problems were just enabling too many bells and whistles then I can just try to tweak some settings to my liking

installing a custom engine from source wont allow me install a marketplace asset with the same engine number
which really sucks because i need the 4.22 version which has the updates

What I used to do for 4.16 ( yes I'm still innthe dark age)
Make the source build project from with in the ue4editor.exe from inside the binary folder .
Then when you add an asset there was a check box to show all versions that returned the source built engine projects

Thats up to you. I decided to create a studio name as it looks more professional and might get more people to download your asset. But its all guessing really
@rapid silo highly recommend using mp4 instead of gif, outside of some weird storefronts they should be supported and give you more quality/mb 🙂
@daring raven I will do a big documentation video in mp4. Its just to show the functionality of the features, and I think gif is great for that since it auto plays and works good on mobile as well.

I want to get all my money not just some. I assume the wire transfer is the same as getting paid at work, where they just deposit the money in my account right?

So according to the Marketplace guidlines I have to release my product on the latest major engine version. So I take it that's 4.22.3? I ask because I just updated my project from 4.21 to 4.22 and am experiencing FPS lag issues. Everything seems to work fine It just feels laggy.

Ok Thanks. I figured out it wasn't 4.22 that was lagging my game down. It was Chrome using up cpu even though it wasn't open. lol So now everythings good. I can update my project to 4.22 and be good to go. 🙂

@@torpid dove If it's a built in plug in you should be ok. Unless you are distributing steamwork content with it that you would normally need a steam developer account to access, Then you will be having issues.
But best bet is to drop a note to marketplace-support@unrealengine.com and get confirmation before submitting.

@stiff talon Kubolds animations are nice but unfortunately they're not very consistent. You keep finding variations that are missing, some packs have leaning/crouch and some don't etc. If that's okay then I can recommend them.

@queen temple you'd be better looking at Prefabricator by the same creator (it's free, I think) I know CoquiGames (his more popular asset is his Animal Behaviour Kit) is developing a procedural city generator, who knows it might be suitable . 🙂
Edit: DA has a city building function but I'm not sure how flexible it is, ie you may be restricted to a grid pattern.

If you want to compete, maybe showing benchmarks in some way for an optimized high quality plugin for a system of sorts is the way to go.

Even the things inside the engine could be replaced with something more specific or optimized. Example the navmesh or the physics system.
Or a fancy voxel engine that's decent quality like what some people are working on... Would be very very awesome.

I want to ensure that I do have the rights of using these purchased items in this company, since all receipts are done on my name.
I think that's fine, because any person who works on the game can buy the assets and use them in that game

technically the assets are tied to you personally, I'd say read the terms fine print yourself for this
one thing to note that you can't like add company to your existing epic account as they don't allow license transfers (that would have been too convenient)
the legal text says: You may only Distribute the Licensed Technology as follows:
c. Distributions to employees and contractors - You also may Distribute Content (other than Paid Plug-ins) to an Engine Licensee who is your employee or your contractor who does not have rights under their license to the same Content, but only to permit that Engine Licensee to utilize that Content in good faith to develop a Product on your behalf for Distribution by you under the License, and not for the purpose of Content pooling or any other Distribution or sublicensing of Content that is not permitted under this Agreement. Recipients of such a Distribution have a limited license to use, reproduce, display, perform, and modify that Content to develop your Product as outlined above, and for no other purpose.
which implies you can only share the paid plugins with employees and contractors, which you don't have with your personal account
marketplace FAQ however states this:
Can I share products with my team?
Yes, you can share Marketplace products with your team but only for the limited purpose of the project that you are jointly developing. Content pooling or sharing products between developers outside of your organization is prohibited. Team members also cannot use products in an unlimited fashion for their own projects.```
EULA hasn't clearly been written to take this kind of use case into account
and I wouldn't be surprised if it were done this way on purpose, hoping that when people found companies they rebuy everything

I'd say that there is nothing morally wrong with using your own things you've bought yourself in something you've made yourself, but of course laws are not based on morality

that said they do allow you to set a company name in your account.
I'd guess you could just ask the asset publishers themselves for permission

I suspect that Epic in general don't really care for that kind of "single person making an indie game" case
so the terms being a little loose... not sure what to think.
