there was an old article, around time GTA4 came out, where devs mentioned that it was a licesing hell
some manufacturers didn't want their cars next to other cars, some didn't allow them to be set on fire, some where picky about color
well the "we dont want our cars to be used for running people over" is kind of meh, since people mod real life cars in all the time, so it happens regardless but on a less profesionally done basis
and you have to keep in mind it's a certain demographics that plays those games in those ways
if my grandma was exposed to stuff that goes on in GTA 5 the least worrying thing would be if that's a mercedess

It is a best practice, but the engine can handle and manage textures that don't use power of two now.

there is a tick to pad them or rescale
but you are wasting memory or loosing quality

NPOT mips generation is possible, but it is pretty pointless, as snapping towards nearest POT would simplify the life in all respects. UE4 does not support generating mips for NPOT textures so far.

I don't want to name names, because the individual sellers aren't relevant here, but I've seen some sellers that consistently put out low quality content complain that they don't see any sales even after lowering their price down to $5. So, these assets aren't selling. They aren't making Epic money. They're just taking up space on the marketplace and making the experience worse for everyone else.

Anyone know what change would have happened around 4.17 that would have tanked performance on my system? Its a real pain to try to use any version newer than 4.16. It slows to a crawl after being open for a few minutes. If I have multiple windows open than I'm down to 3 or 4 fps

I think the "New Content" page is bugged - I see older assets listed ahead of newer assets and when I click next page it shows ones I've already seen - basically it seems to be randomizing the order and refreshes randomization when I change the page
I don't use the launcher version when browsing/buying, only for downloading, so maybe its just the web version

@sinful kelp email epic about it. I submitted 3 updates within 10 minutes of one another, and two got processed, the other took over 2 weeks. When I emailed them they magically did it within about 2 hours and said "updates are usually processed in the order they are received, however I've pushed this one through now" lol

they had a compile error on their hand and it was an easy fix so i sent in the fixed version right away

Is the Marketplace in a place that you're happy about? No. Of course it is not. Do we know that? Yes. Are the teams working on it? You bet your ass they are. You might not see it right away, but meetings and discussions, movement and momentum are a very very very regular part of my day and, everyone involved.

Thing is, when you are with the Engine and Marketplace since it opened up for Subscription and you have Assets on the MP since it's available, then "We are working on it." doesn't cut it anymore.

out of curiosity, why for europe Epic's charging same amount of dollars but as euros. if i set the price for 30 dollars you're charging 30 euros + some other fee. A euro is 1.23 american dollars. Yet the seller gets the payment only in dollars.

@north stirrup Yeah, in practice anyway, while it's just free text rather than proper fields, I think very unlikely they are enforcing any of that stuff.
Also, "Number of C++ Classes" is such a dumb metric.
Would also be nice to have it automatically calculated based on the submitted assets, and also not count for the maximum content ๐

The bug has been labeled critical and, I believe a fix is going in soon.

2.3.1.b and 2.3.2.b now state they are allowing custom skeletons
Who care about standardization and inter-compatibility, amirite?
Literally any skeletal mesh imported is going to generate its own skeleton, so this requirement is basically just an absence of any requirements. Just an excuse for the review team to be lazy.
well, you don't have to buy assets that are not standardized
and assets that are not standardized will probably have less sales
If that's the case it's a bit sad to see. One of the things I liked about animations on UE4 is you know they're going to work with the mannequin skeleton.
yeah. if its gumroad or something then its fine. but its a market specifically geared toward a specific engine/set of tools. so
i dont necessarily consider this change as a bad one
as long as sellers are forced to make clear what the user can expect

We've tossed around the idea of making our own marketplace a lot but the setup cost is prohibitive
actually nobody keeps us from defining our own standard and advertising that our asset fulfills that standard

Generally, its a case of chargeback fraud, and there isn't much Epic can do about that.
Still... We're supposed to be notified, not be let to guess, in my opinion. Also, these are digital products so it makes no sense to offer refunds once the source code has been downloaded.
They don't notify you when they claim fraud
well, in case of fraud the refund really isn't going to the offending party...it's going back onto the credit card that was used fraudulently

Create a nice and thick mudsplash in Unreal Engine 4, using a FLIP tank in Houdini. Literally go from an empty scene, set up your FLIP tank, throw a rock down (it's really just a deformed sphere) and then reduce it to the barebones shape and expo...
For me, it's clear that this guy followed the tutorial.
But he made variations of the splash mesh, variations that you can't download nor create with the information of this tutorial without having Houdini.
What you could do is upload ten variations of your own

Does anyone know of a really good, polished player character on the marketplace that would be good for action adventure game? I'm a game designer and teach game development and it would be really useful for students to use a character with some built-in platforming / action adventure mechanics. Appreciate the help!

It wouldn't suprise me if the content is randomized deliberately and they are just calling it a bug while they see what effect it has on sales

The possibility of the randomization being deliberate is merely interesting because it was discussed on the forums a while ago
We would not claim it is a bug if it was something we were testing.
The idea, as it was discussed, was essentially that there is no purpose in showing the same products over and over to a customer not interested in them, so it could be beneficial to show a random set instead. So the possibility of Epic trying to implement something along those lines would be interesting.
And if we decided to do something along those lines, we would share that out ahead of time. We are not in the business of subterfuge.
